My family loves Dorabelle Campground! And I probably shouldn't give Dorabelle a great review because this will make it even harder to reserve a site here. The setting is beautiful: tall trees, giant granite rocks everywhere, a creek and a lovely lake where you can park your chairs and beach towels to boat, swim, kayak, paddle board or just lay in the sun. The campground hosts are helpful and keep the place clean. The pit toilets ( nobody's favorite) are cleaned every day which is a credit to the hosts. The campsites are close but the terrain is hilly so it's not as if you're in a parking lot with camping slots. Every site has unique surroundings. So if you want to camp in a place where there are no other humans, devoid of other peoples' noise and music maybe you should travel elsewhere. But if you'd like to take yourself or your family to a warm clean lake where the people are (mostly) friendly and the campground hosts are great come to Dorabelle on Shaver Lake!

A beautiful campground that was quiet and clean with a 5 minute walk to this glorious lake.

Shaver lake was glorious Campground well maintained with nice spacious sites. The little town adorable

Jaime, the entrance park ranger was fantastic! So very kind and helpful. She did not make us feel in a hurry and answered all of our questions. Just when we were turning to leave (due to park being full) she stopped us as someone leaving gave up their pass! What a great day on the lake-- made better by this wonderful person!!

Second year in a row staying here for the 4th of July. Had 3 sites for a group of people. Love this campground. Sites are a 10 minute walk to the lake. The hosts are fantastic- they really care about the grounds. They clean up after people more than they should have to, but it's nice to see sites raked after a group leaves and restrooms cleaned multiple times a day. You can use any wood from the grounds that can fit in the pit. Town is a 20 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. Plenty of potable water which is always a benefit. Only drawback it it's crowded. But hey, it's the 4th of July so it should be expected. We even hit the community pancake breakfast this year which was great. I would definitely recommend.

I love this campground! I think the location is perfect. What I didn't like is how there aren't any pictures of the sites in the website. We had campsite #53 and It a lot closer to #54 than I expected. The picture I attached is a good representation to how close the campsites are to each other. However, the campground has different levels, so they're not just flat out right next to each other. The hosts were really nice. From what I saw, every campground was shaded at least at some point. #53 didn't have shade in the morning. The gas station, market and firewood are all within a mile. You can easily walk to the lake from your campsite (or pay $10 for closer parking). Camp Edison has way more yellow jackets compared to this campsite, but Kens market has fly and yellow jacket traps that work great.

Our campsite. #36. Absolutely perfect.

Simply beautiful. Our group of 12 had site #36 for 3 days and 2 nights in October 2016. It was amazing. Our site was above the lake with a couple of easy ways to get down to the water. It was also very easy to go for a nice long walk as far as you would like to go all along the lake. Did I mention it was gorgeous?? The camp hosts were great too! Very nice people that stopped by to talk story a couple times. One thing that made our stay extra good was that the bathrooms were extremely clean, with lots of toilet paper at all times, and never smelled like a bathroom at all. I am definitely coming back here!!

Our first time back since the renovation was completed was August 23rd to August 26th, 2014. Everything has been re vamped and is new! Camp Hosts are still just as friendly as ever! Current site maps shows ALL (61) STANDARD NONELECTRIC (44)TENT ONLY NONELECTRIC (17) This is being edited as the year goes on to reflect the new sites. All sites are great for camping. The RV availability is based on your rig size (ie tent campers will fit where a 40 ft RV wont) Firewood is available for purchase at the Camp Host sites. Ice and food is a 5 minute drive away in the Town of Shaver Lake. And the lake is accessible from the campground (boat launch at Shaver Lake Marina). Please stay on new trails when going to lake. They are trying to mitigate erosion.

About 1hr to the camp site. We paid $5for picnic. We parked near a restroom and followed a path to the lake. We swam and ate...ate. No fish to catch...not even minos. Two mallets were hanging out around us. I want to camp out here. So far the best place and clean.

Ask the Community - DoraBelle Campground

Is there good phone connection for AT&T or just service in general?

We have found the AT&T signal to be virtually zero in the entire Shaver Lake/Huntington Lake area. My wife sells real estate in the area so we bought her a second cell phone with Verizon so she can stay connected with clients.

Toilets regularly maintained, lots of water, and lots of firewood around to burn in the fire pits.

I've been camping for more than 25 years, whether it be dispersed with limited facilities or sites…read morethat have full on electrical outlets and close to a body of water (like Camp Edison). Yet majority of the time, I have been lucky to get a reservation here. To make a reservation, you will need to go on Camplife.com and select Camp Edison as your location. Reservations open up 6 months prior to your desired camping dates. So if you want to camp around June, you will need to get on the reservation site around December and compete with others in the reservation process. Reserving for May-July are the worst; similar to reserving at Yosemite National Park. It can be frustrating as you will be assigned a random number in the queue at 8am on the dot; so make sure you're logged in at least 15 minutes prior just in case you encounter connection issues. You can be either #1 or #1000; it just depends on how many are on the site at that given time. You also have a time limit to make your reservation or risk to having it swooped by another camper if you fail to do so. I recommend making your reservation on a desktop and not on mobile as you might have issues with cell signal. As far as the experience goes, I just love camping here. Sites are adequately spaced but other "Loops" may be a bit spacier. Most sites are RV/Trailer accomodating. Electric meters for eac site, communal water stations, hot showers (shower card needed) and flushing toilets. They also have a Camp Store near the Check In Booth. There are also vendors that drive around that sell firewood. You can also rent boats at the Shaver Lake Marina, and if fully booked, you can try your luck at the nearby Sierra Marina. Walking distance to Shaver Lake and a few mins drive to the Shaver Lake town. I highly recommend this campgrund if you're lucky to snag a spot online. Also, you can pay for "Day Use" only - which basically is equivalent to a Day Pass. Good luck!

Then, once we finally got it, 7 minutes into driving it, the propeller fell off and it was stuck in the middle of the lake. Had to wait for them to tow it to the beach. Sat for 2 hours waiting for them to fix it. Used it for about an hour and then it was time to go have dinner because our kids were starving and exhausted. The next 2 days were one thing after another. The gas gauge didn't work and although we had filled up the night before, within one hour of driving it the next morning, it ran out of gas in the middle of the lake but we didn't know what was wrong because the gas gauge didn't work. Waited for someone to come get us AGAIN and tow us. Wasted hours and hours of our vacation dealing with problems with the boat. The staff was amazing and tried to be so helpful. The owner was a troll and didn't care, wouldn't reimburse us for all of our time that they wasted and the hours and hours that we didn't actually even get to use it. This company is HORRIBLE!!!! One of the backrest clip loops was broken (kayaing without a working backrest is horrible), and the deck hatch was so old that water leaked right into the hold causing flooding. It also appears that this Marina knows about the kayak flooding because they drilled a custom drain hole in the back of the kayak for flooding drainange. These issues weren't realized until I was already on the water. Obviously basic expectations of a kayak rental weren't met. The previous day we rented from Shaver Lake Watersports and they had all new kayaks. So new that they still had the brochures attached to the kayaks. Perhaps that's why SLW cost $10 more an hour to rent.. I guess you get what you pay for. As others have said, it's teens working here on a summer job. Nothing wrong with that of course but they're not really trained to look for issues with a boat (or kayak in my case) before sending someone out in the lake. They also don't have knowledge of Shaver Lake's boating laws. The kid that launched me said that everyone was required to wear a life vest. After looking it up, the law states 12 and under must wear a life preserver. I took it off when out of Marina sight. Tip - if you're staying on the lake as a "day use" and are thinking about renting a kayak, make sure it's for half-a-day or full-day rental. It's like a 30-40 minute paddle to the beach areas around parking lot 3..
