I participated in one of their online workshops, which I thought was a great idea in light of everything happening surrounding COVID. I initially signed up because I thought the tree was cute and wanted some more Christmas decor, and the price of the workshop was really reasonable, so I thought why not? The workshop far exceeded my expectations in terms of ease and information! Michele was super knowledgeable about the materials/paint/techniques, and it inspired me to start dabbling into the idea of painting some of my own furniture. Or at least some of my own pieces rather than buying them at Hobby Lobby! :p It was super easy to pick up the materials, and there was more than enough leftover for using the materials for another DIY project. I'm a hobbyist and I have been to Knot Too Shabby on several occasions. I was frustrated to learn that a friend recently went to this store looking for a specific paint color and a specific paint brush for a project, and was followed around the store by an employee who not-so-subtly told her several times that "Everything here is expensive and high quality" as well as "There may be cheaper options elsewhere." It is 2021. We are in greater Los Angeles. Is a Black woman really not welcome to spend money in your store, which was empty at the time she stopped by? I generally favor small businesses over the big box stores but I'm not able to support a business like this. I won't be back. read more

I love visiting this cute place. I visited with my mom a while back and bought two flannel shirts for the price of one. It was a bit pricey since it was $50, but well worth it since the quality is great and it's crafted in California. I visited again today and bought a world map for $5 and 2 keys for $2 each. They sell a bunch of cute but informational posters for $5 that you can use for gift wrapping or wall decor. I love the cute, random stuff they have like vintage music sheets on sale for $1 for five sheets. I purchased a $5 grab bag. They have a stall set up with a bunch of sealed bags on sale but the catch is that you can't peek what's inside so it's a total mystery! Of course, I picked up the heaviest one and found it was a bunch of silverware, lol. It also included these poofy yarn balls that I can give to my mom's cats. I'd buy a grab bag again because I love the thrill of it and it's inexpensive. read more

Great little shop in downtown/old town Glendora. Found them thru a Craigslist ad, checked out their blog, and decided their store would be worth a trip out from eastside LA. They have a variety of antiques and refurbished furniture for sale -- all at a range of prices ($10 for knickknacks up to $2000+ for large pieces). Generally limited to the shabby chic and provençal styles, but you should definitely pop in for a look. New stuff all the time per the cashier. Close to other shops and restaurants so you could totally make a morning/afternoon of eating/browsing/shopping in the immediate area. Street parking was easy - and free! -, though I didnt find a spot right in front (probably couldve waited just a minute for it). They do have delivery for big things you cant get into your car! read more

As a referral from a friend of mine who attended a class here, I chose to take 3 very large ceramic pots in to see if they could change the color and yet keep the "patina" look. It's a very unique chalk painting process commonly used on furniture where no sanding is required....stems from the UK. I couldn't be happier with the service and attention I got from Michelle who runs the shop. She did an incredible job and even sent me pictures prior to my picking them up. When I returned to get them, she painted them the color I chose, however I wanted them darker. She had no problem with changing the color while I visited one of the local restaurants in that quaint darling town for lunch. A wonderful class to take for beginners to shabby furniture distressing! My mother and I took a private class - definitely the way to go. We were able to work on larger pieces than if we were in a group class. It was a little more expensive but worth it for the one-on-one direction (private lessons are done in pairs, but still very hands on). The owner Michelle ran the class and was extremely helpful. She explained the entire process, walked us through each step, and told us about the tools we were using. She made sure to help when needed but also step back and let us create our own pieces. The class was from 1-5pm with a short 30 minute break in between. I absolutely loved the Annie Sloan paint, wax and brushes - definitely good quality stuff! I felt comfortable afterwards that I could do the same technique on other furniture. I would go back again just to get some more tips from Michelle or pickout paint for another project. I first came to this store bcuz of its great reviews and I found it is super cute and has lots of fun crafty items. However, I came for Annie Sloan paint bcuz I was so excited to start my first ever paint project and the customer service was terrible. If you don't know exactly what you need don't come here expecting someone to take time for you. I spoke to one employee over the phone and she assured me I could make a return as long as I didn't open the can (which I didn't) and when I showed up a different employee had nothing but attitude and was extremely rude with me for not knowing their exchange policy. Bottom line, be nice to people if you want them to come back. I'm sad to say my excitement to have attended an in shop workshop is now gone and I won't be returning. read more

I found this store through craigslist. I loved their listed items and would visit their website often for new updates/furniture. I was super excited when i found out that we were going to be in the area. So after "work" we headed to Knot Too Shabby. I walk in. Where to start? furniture? knick nacks? frames? I spotted the owner working on a new piece, near her is a woman just standing there, giving me the stink eye After looking around for a while i decide to pay for the cute rose wall hook. The woman giving me the stink eye IS the cashier! wow. anyways, she doesnt give me eye contact, doesnt even give me the total. Im thinking "maybe she's a mute?" until a customer walks in and the cashier warmly greets her! I was really looking forward to loving this store, but after the rude customer service or lack there of i will not be wasting my time with this store or their website. read more

Adorable Store!!! Had a great time during my private lesson, painted a bed for my daughter's bedroom. I am Not a painter, have never used Chalk Paint and it was soo easy!! The lesson was great and I was sooo happy with my results. I have gotten so many compliments on my daughters bed. It came out just the way I wanted, and what is best is that I DID IT!! What a cute store. Lots of awesome chic-ified furniture. The clerk was really helpful too. I did not find what I was looking for today, but I will be back in the future. The clerk also informed me that they do classes in the back of the store, there are three different things that they teach. Also, a lot of the work on the pieces are done by the owner and INTERNS. Thought that was neat. AND you can bring furniture in to have them customize it for you. They have all kinds of great items: end tables, desks, armoires, dinning room Sets (so Cool looking), vintage bird cage, piano etc. This place is the place to go for shabby chic or if you want original pieces. read more

I had been searching for a dining set for quite some time and after searching through craigslist I saw what appeared...with my fingers crosses...perhaps the perfect piece to my bare dining room. I made a trip to the store, the lady at the store was nice and was helpful. The items in the store are all unique, hand refurnished and definitely very shabby chic. The prices are VERY reasonable compared to other furniture stores. The quality is great, stuffs pretty sturdy so I trust that it won't fall apart after a few uses. I couldn't fit the entire set into my car, so I took the chairs and since then, I've had multiple people ask me where I got em from. read more

Very cute store. I've only ever bought paint, which is a bit pricey, but in the long run worth the investment. I've looked for furniture there, but have always ended up finding my own bargains and painting them, refurbishing the pieces myself. I love that they can help with teaching you how to do that on your own. The owner is a very nice gal with a young family, so it's very understandable that she's busy. She has always been very helpful and encouraging of me doing my own projects and has given lots of helpful advice for free. I like the feel of the store, the painting workshops offered, the designed pieces that offer inspiration and examples of the colors of the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and the overall style of the store. Recently a friend and I took a texture chalk paint workshop with Michele, the owner of Knot Too Shabby. Not only did we learn several useful techniques but we also had a lot of fun! Michele is a wonderful teacher, and has a great sense of humor too, making for a lovely time in class. The shop is adorable with many gorgeous furniture pieces, hand painted and transformed with chalk and milk paint. Tucked in among the furniture pieces are hand-made crafts created by talented artisans. Browsing the shop is interesting, with many eclectic items for sale, all the supplies you need for your own painted projects, and a great place to find a gift! There is also a street fair the first Saturday of the month in front of the shop which we browsed and found some enthusiastic and friendly artisans with unique items for sale. Knot Too Shabby is an enjoyable place to spend some time to find inspiration and supplies to do one of your own projects or to purchase something completed to just take home and enjoy! read more

I've been to both stores (Glendora and Monrovia) to get the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and have had the BEST service ever! The girls that work there explained everything to me and then some. Today I was at the Glendora store and Michelle gave me some great tips on mixing the paint colors and also suggested some classes I might want to take. I found Knot too shabby on Craiglist looking for a buffet/hutch type piece. They had a beautiful one that I feel so lucky to have gotten. My horrible boss showed up the same day to try to buy it in case i hadnt paid for it! Everyone who visits me compliments the peice. It really is beautiful.
