I own a $200 pair of pants that I don't wear. They're good quality pants but they're not what I wanted. I reached out online to speak to someone about having a custom pair of pants made. They assured me that they could make what I wanted. I wanted a very particular custom pair of pants, I brought in examples of what I wanted and they didn't even measure or examine them. I felt like they kind of blew my input off and proceeded to do what 'they' think I wanted or needed. There were actually several things about the pants that were wrong. I took them back twice to get fixed and altered but they were still not what I wanted. I was then made to feel like I was asking for too much. So yeah, now I have a $200 pair of pants that I don't wear. I suppose Knot Standard is fine if you want to be told what to wear. Maybe if I had spent more money they would have listened to me more? Based on my experience, I wouldn't spend another dollar with this company when there are so many other places to get clothes. read more

We've had a not-so-great experience with Knot Standard. I got my husband a $500 gift card as a gift. He added to it to have a suit made. Months later with no updates he reached out to Allison and heard there was no progress on made on the suit. She said it happened to other customers as well and suggested cancelling. Said she'd follow up and reinstate the gift card and email a verification. Never got anything. Just not what you'd expect of a custom clothing shop. Really disappointed in this place. read more

We are incredibly disappointed by our experience with this company and would never recommend their services, especially if you are considering them for an important event. My now husband and I ordered two suits for our wedding and our rehearsal dinner. While the person we worked with, Josephine, offered a virtual fitting, given the importance of events we flew to Austin for an in person experience. The in-person experience was very enjoyable, choosing the material, style, customization. But since we no longer lived in texas, they offered to ship the suits to us and offered free alterations if needed if we send the suits back to them or offered to pay for alterations if we chose a local tailor. When we received the suits and a customized shirt, my husband noticed that the stitching on his "wedding" shirt was not the color he ordered. So he immediately contacted Josephine, the store manager who was working with us, to let her know and she promised to get back to us about the solution. The suits were of great material but didn't sit quite right. Instead of sending the suits back to this location and risking shipping delays before the wedding, we opted to take it to a local tailor. The local tailor with more than 2 decades of experience noted that the jackets are about an inch shorter than they should be on my tall husband. My husband attempted to reach out to Josephine for a follow up. He made several phone calls, left messages, left messages with other employees requesting a call back and emailed. Radio silence. we ended up doing the alterations with the local tailor who did the best he could but it's not exactly easy to add length to a jacket. So not only we had to pay out of pocket for "free alterations", this inconvenience pales in comparison to disappointment of having 2 expensive suits that don't fit well, and wedding pictures that he feels conscious about. And this was supposed to be a special gift for him for such an important event. We have yet to hear back from anyone regarding the wrongly made shirt or the alterations for the suits. And we just celebrated our 1st year anniversary. So in summary, in theory customized suits for such a special event was a lovely concept, and it was an enjoyable experience during the ordering process, but terrible customer service and follow through, especially considering the amount that was paid for these suits. read more

If you are considering doing business with Knot Standard in Austin, I urge you to think twice. In April, the stylist Josephine told me that she would be remaking two shirts that did not fit me properly. Normally, a shirt with Knot Standard takes about 6 weeks to be made. To date, I still have not received those remade shirts. I'm a reasonable person, but a customer should not have to wait 5 months in the dark like I have. In the last few weeks I have tried contacting Josephine for an update. I emailed her, I stopped by (she wasn't there), I called her (left a message with Patrick twice), and she never got back to me. This is my final recourse. Hopefully potential customers will benefit from this review of Josephine's poor customer service, and take their business elsewhere. It's unfortunate because I like Knot Standard's clothing, and I never had customer service issues with my previous stylist Emma. Emma was very attentive and responsive, but unfortunately she transferred to their New York headquarters. read more

I received my first suit from the Knot Standard and was really happy with the quality and fit. This is my first experience with fully custom, though I've owned mid-tier off the rack suits (e.g., Hugo Boss) in the past. I did some online research and walked into the KS showroom pretty skeptical. While I'm sure all the stylists are great, Josephine was phenomenal to work with. She spent nearly two hours with me in our first session (our appointment was only scheduled for an hour), answering question after question in painstaking detail about current trends, recommendations, and options. She provided a nice balance of detail when I was curious (e.g., fabric tiers and options) and a strong opinion when I was overwhelmed (e.g., button choices, which are apparently limitless). She has a clear passion for fashion, is a great advocate for the Knot Standard, and took the time to get to know me and what I was trying to accomplish (current yet timeless business suits for occasional use over the next several years). Not surprisingly, I hate shopping and my prior experiences with suit-buying were overwhelming and not fun. I legitimately had a blast learning about and designing my suit with Josephine, Woodford Reserve in hand. My first suit, after some tailoring (included in the sticker price), fits great, is comfortable, and has the exact details I wanted. The shopping experience was not only effortless but actually enjoyable. Josephine also kept me updated on the status of my suit (which can take 2-4 weeks to arrive) and went out of her way to accommodate my schedule (fitting on a Saturday, final fitting and pick-up on July 4th). If you are in the market for a custom suit and have a budget at or around a mid-tier off the rack, definitely check this place out and ask for Josephine -- you will have an outstanding, individually tailored experience and end up with a high-quality finished product. As a repeat customer of Knot Standard, I wanted to share my wonderful experience; so that those who are looking for a truly custom clothing experience will make the right decision with KS. My very first blazers done were great! Then my stylist relocated, so Liz the wonderful manager at the time set me up with Josephine to work with moving forward. I explained to Josephine that I loved my original blazers but the last suit I had ordered (from former stylist) just did not really blow me away so I was hesitant about ordering the next one. I was in need of my first every custom Tux, but I wanted to make sure it was going to be perfect. Completely understanding where I was coming from, Josephine scheduled an entirely new fitting appointment, where she was myticulous with every measurement and made sure everything was exactly how I wanted it to be. She cross referenced the last fitting, to compare and contrast, to get an understanding of where things may have been slightly off. Then she even ordered in a No Charge Trial Suit so that before the Tux was put into production we were able to see and make tweaks so that it would come in flawless. When my Loro Piana tux finally came in, it was not only gorgeous material & quality, but the fit was AMAZING. It was the quintessential CUSTOM experience because you truly felt, this was made for ME!. Josephine did a fantastic job, we continue to work together and I've just ordered another Loro Piana suit that I cannot wait to arrive. Some other notable shoutouts and why you want to work with KS Austin. Patrick the Operations Manager, is a fashionista! Not only does he run an amazing Showroom, but he is a style monster. Every time I'm in there... I say go get Patrick, I want to know what Patrick thinks. He is always pleasant to be around and a positive attitude which adds to the experience. Mike who is the General Manager I believe, or Showroom Manager had to step in while Josephine was on Vacation and we had a slight backorder on the custom tux shirt I ordered. So Mike, was able to clear them getting me a Hugo Boss Tux shirt Free of Charge; as a contingency if the Custom Knot Standard one was not going to make it in time for the wedding. Amazing! (Also... K.S got the custom shirt in time .. but the "contingency" plan that cost me nothing, was an incredible gesture and highlights their customer centric experience) Thank you too Josephine and all of you at the Showroom in Austin, who I look forward to continue to work with. read more

In the summer of 2017 I ordered two suits (one for my wedding). Having never had a problem with KS before it didn't bother me that I heard nothing for over a month. In week 5 I received a call from Josephine telling me that neither of the two fabrics I had chosen were in stock. My wedding was in a month and no one bothered to tell me that I wasn't going to have a suit. In her defense, Josephine moved heaven and earth to get me an alternate suit in time for my wedding. The fact that a store selling a premium product couldn't communicate any better than this is inexcusable. This past November I decided to try KS again and ordered a $1700 camel overcoat and was told it should be in around Christmas. The first week of January I began calling the store and leaving messages (the VM stated they were closed at 11:00 and 2:00 on business days) and I reached out to Inf0@knotstandard as well. I never received a response. On 1/10 I called the store and FINALLY reached a person who could not give me an update on my order. Today (1/11) I received a call back stating the material had been caught up in customs and there was no ETA for my order. Again, in 6 weeks time no one could take the time to call and let me know there was a delay. This is absolutely not acceptable. I could go to Neimans and purchase an equivalent coat today for less money, but I go with KS because the fit and service are supposed to be "custom". The service I have received has been amateur at best. Now I have to go try to work with the showroom to see if I can get the coat before Spring. I gave KS a second chance after the suit debacle but these issues, at least in my experience, seem to be the norm as opposed to an exception. I am done with KS and will purchase my clothes elsewhere. read more

I have never ordered a made to measure suit before but the entire process was very straightforward - if I was uncertain about something or there were multiple choices, Jessica had a recommendation based on style preference. I found Knot Standard through Yelp, when I was looking to surprise my husband with a custom suit for his birthday. I was concerned as it'd be a large purchase and something I'd hope he'd love and cherish - the process, and the suit itself. That's when we found Josephine - and I knew we were in great hands. Josephine and I corresponded for a month prior to the surprise appointment and she answered all my custom suit newbie questions with grace and ease. The day of the appointment - my husband was completely surprised and Josephine patiently walked us through every step of the process including customization for small things that made a huge difference - a suit that's fit to his body but allows for concealed carry, a little looser left wrist on the shirts because that's where a large watch goes, etc. She was careful not to overwhelm us while creating an amazing suit that is perfectly my husband. We ended up with a full custom suit and three shirts that we customized from top to bottom. Following the order, she was quick to communicate with us regarding when the sample shirt would be in, knew we needed it for a wedding in May and squeezed us in for a final fitting - and then made sure we were in capable hands when she was on vacation. Impressive service with end products that look great and can be worn with distinction. A family member took delivery of a custom suit that looked so great i scheduled a follow up appointment for myself. Knot Standard uses a pragmatic approach -- although they have great confidence in their fab team and pride in their products, if time allows, they stage deliverables for items like custom shirts when ordered in multiples. This allows verification of fit and minor adjustments following receipt of the first item which will be applied to the remainder of the order. It served us well; the first shirt exceeded expectations. Still, we found a couple of minor opportunities to refine details. The end result will be stellar. It's a premium product at a premium price. That's the good news. The bad news is that they are extremely arrogant - the attitude is "you're lucky to get to do business with us." Appointments are rescheduled solely for their convenience. No "sorry for the long delivery delay" - just a diatribe about how extremely busy they are when inquiries are made. When expensive products are finally delivered, nary a "thank you for your business." At this price point, there are lots of choices - I will go elsewhere. read more

We stopped by for an impromptu visit to schedule an appointment, and ask some questions, when we bumped into a very friendly sales associate, Liz, on her way out. Although she was closing for the afternoon, she welcomed us in and we immediately started discussing a custom suit. When she suggested that we didn't need to come back and we could work through the details today, it was both welcomed and unexpected. Liz was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. She walked us through each step and made excellent suggestions. The shop itself is very personable and welcoming. Don't do business with this company if you want things taken care of in a timely manner, or if you expect any kind of communication with them after you make a purchase. If you have a question or concern expect to get a response within maybe a month if you're lucky. We ordered custom suits for the groomsmen in our wedding, and quite frankly for ~13k spent we expected more than we got. Our wedding is in 2.5 weeks and we have yet to get any legitimate confirmation that suits are even in production. (We ordered them at the beginning of November last year, and all the groomsmen's measurements have been in for months). The manager, Josephine (when you can reach her), just gives us a vague "it will be ok." Well we're close to the last minute without any reassurance that things "will be ok." If you're looking for a suit for an event, look elsewhere unless you like the thought of stressing out about it until the last minute. I'm not usually one to care much about stellar customer service, but this has been totally absurd. read more

My first custom suit experience with Knot Standard was fun and easy and I came away with a great looking, great fitting, great quality suit that I'd happily buy two more of. My appointment was originally just for a couple shirts, but was so happy with the process that I decided to go full in for a suit too. Josephine was helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating and reliable. As a trans guy, I was a little apprehensive about the whole process, but she made me feel very comfortable and respected and I couldn't have asked for a more positive experience.
