Seeking a landscaper was daunting especially when I live 3,000 miles across the country. I have a vacation home in the Doral, FL area on the market currently and my real estate agent suggested I add 6 palms trees in the backyard for additional privacy and to damper the traffic noise. My wife was totally excited about using this company. She did a ton of research and Knoll Landscape Design just seemed like the right fit. Brent (the owner) was extremely nice and even got me excited about our garden, which has never happened before. He had some great ideas, was very professional, and he didn't even charge us a consultation fee. So why am I only giving three stars? Actually, I was first going to give two stars but felt bad about it, but truly believe two stars would have been the correct review. The reason for the low rating is because Brent's enthusiasm to help us diminished tremendously when we told him that we were going to start with his minimum of $5,000 and then go in stages and continue spending in the future, rather than the $25,000 at once. It was a Friday and we were supposed to get some ideas by Monday. We didn't get a response at all until the middle of the week after my wife sent him a message. He said he was tied up and would get back to us in a few days. A few days later, one week after we were supposed to get our original message, he told us he was too busy to work with us. I sell luxury real estate for a living and treat people exactly the same whether they are spending $15,000,000 or $150,000. This company doesn't. Brent Knoll loves and knows dirt and plants; I don't know plants and I kill cacti. We built a pool and our entire backyard was a hot mess that needed attention after 6 month of getting beat up by pool construction. at first, we thought we would just lay sod and be done with it, but after you spend 30K on a pool, it kinda blows to enjoy it in an ugly space. We called 3 landscapers after doing our homework on yelp and home advisor. Brent returned our call right away and said could not make it to our house until the week after b/c his mom was in town (1 point for being good to his mom and communicating). Call #2 to another landscaper arrived for a quote before Brent and has great reviews on home advisor but we asked him to send us an email with the quote and details and never heard back. Call #3 to another landscaper went unanswered; like another reviewer said here "guess they didn't want our $." Brent followed up just like he said the week after, reviewed the land, and came up with a 1st draft design sent via email (pdf file) with name of plants and ideas in approx 1 wk. hubby and I reviewed and talked to him about our thoughts. After we talked, he made some changes. The communication was open the entire time during the design and even after the design. He and his crew showed up on schedule and finished just as expected (job started less than 1 wk of design finish). It's ridiculous how happy you get when service is delivered as expected. he fixed our front yard and gave it curb appeal. he fixed our back yard and created a beautiful space for us to enjoy for a long time cuz i'm sure i'll be buried in this money pit of a house. he created a hedge after our fence and gate were finished, which was weeks after he completed the initial job. the hedge was part of the plan and he got paid for it even before it was done b/c plants were delivered but he came back to finish the job. I would work with him again, and high recommend him. we have done everything to this house: kitchen, floors, bathrooms, etc, and most every contract we do is a delay and a headache but he is a pleasure. it has been approximately 3 months since did the job at our house and we still ask him questions about plant care, tree care, etc. he is very responsive. I am surprised that he did not return someone's call that left him a 1 star review but life happens and maybe he was busy working on my house that day. I would try him again. Pricing: he does not do work less than 4K, which at first was shocking to me until I realized how expensive stuff is and now I wish I would have spent 4K. we needed lots of sod and sod is expensive and his quote was comparable to quote #1 received from another landscaper. he's a designer, a delicate genius, so he gets paid like one. Again, I would hire him! he worked with our budget too and changed some plants, and got younger trees to accommodate our pockets. it's not cheap to do landscaping but so glad we did. The consultation is $150 and the design and pdf doc is $500 i think, but he does work with you. He is a master at his craft. read more

My friend Matthew has really enjoyed gardening since moving from being just down the street from me in Doral to a bigger house in Kendall. I've watched his facebook posts and seen his photos and also seen what he accomplished when I've visited him and his family. I've been thinking about redoing some of my 17 year old builder installed landscaping and when I met Brent at a get-together at Matt's place, well, it made sense to stop thinking and get him over to help me make a plan. Brent has been very professional all the way through and helped me not only to select something to plant in a shady spot that needed something, but really made a difference in my yard. We collaborated mostly in emails and texts with photos to decide on specific plants, and I beleive we made a nice selection of native plants that will do well in the difficult soil of Doral. His organic "super soil" should help too. He had the hard work of removing a tree and a stump, bushes that were in the ground for 17 years, along with palm roots in the same area. He did the work quickly, came when he said he would, came over to inspect afterward, and is sending care instructions so that I have success in the future. I now have plumbago bushes with small blue flowers all of the time, and a small blue butterfly that likes to flit around them often visible. I have two new trees in front where I had a dead one and a stump from days gone by. I have small jasmine plants that someday will become a fragrant bush (they already are, but after only three weeks, they are small and not as impactful as they will be). I have a banana tree in the back to go along with my 4-5 year old mango. I have more jasmine, and several plants that will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. I've already started to see them in the yard. I also now have a raised bed herb and veggie garden planted with seasonal vegetables. The eggplant is already getting a small fruit forming. My basil is taking off and I think I may need to make some pesto. I'm hoping to plant lettuce and tomatoes when the season is right. I'm having Brent come back to add raspberries on a trellis, grape vines on the same one, and a lemon tree. My yard is not large, but now it is much more than fenced grass with Bougainvilla bushes along the fence, which are nice. It's good to have more, especially with it being an edible garden too. I look forard to working with Brent more, not just because of the intiial install work, but because I know from the way he has worked with Matt, and the discussions we've had, that I'll have his help if I have gardening questions in the future. read more
