I took the "Mistakes" class and it was so super helpful! It was a small group so it was easy to get one on one attention and.m the instructor was just so knowledgeable and patient that it was well worth the money!!! And if you just need a place to hold you accountable to knit regularly (like I do) they have "safaris" these are basically knitting circles where there is an instructor to answer questions and you go at your own pace and work on your own projects. I really like the location of this place too...walking distance to a coffee shop and the County liquor store depending on what you like drink while you knit or crochet!

There aren't too many choices for yarn shops in the DC metro area; I found WoolWinders by accident,…read moreafter I taken a hiatus of about 40 years from crocheting. I went into the store & Louise could not have been nicer or more helpful. She fixed me up right away with a beautiful yarn & right size needle to make a hat for my granddaughter as my first project, despite her being primarily a knitter. She also told me about a wonderful woman who works there and teaches classes on crochet (which I took and am taking). Since that time I have been to the store numerous times and ALL of the saleswomen are gracious and helpful. They have a great selection of yarns and expertise when you need it!

I discovered this quilt shop after purchasing some fabric from them at the Annapolis quilt show. I…read morewas very impressed with the large selection of fabric that they brought to the show and the woman working the booth was very friendly. I decided to make the hike to the store (45 minutes from my house) and was not disappointed. This store is bright, open and airy but yet still manages to have a huge selection of organized fabric and supplies as well as customer quilts displayed on the wall. I really love how everything had price tags/labels, making it easy to decide on purchases and get the information needed. There were also several signs and projects all around which were advertisements for upcoming classes, but yet inspiring to see. The shop also had a large Janome section of machines that you could look at and test out. I was very pleased that there were several employees working to help customers and while I was looking around the store overheard the employees making conversation with the customers about their fabric choices and projects. An employee named Jan approached me and asked me if I needed help. I explained that I was new to the shop and she spent several minutes answering my tons of questions I had about this new shop. She was so patient and willing to help me, not only with products but general sewing questions since I'm still a beginner. She also was not pushy or 'salesy'. I was very pleased with this shop, and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, is because I have only been to a few quilt stores and don't have too much to compare it to. I definitely plan on visiting this shop again (drive or not) because from what I can gather, THIS is the quilt shop you hope for in your sewing career. You can tell that the employees that run this business not only care, but are interested in quilting/sewing and are truly invested in this shop and the customer base. I was even more pleased when I researched their website when I got home. There is so much information available and interesting classes that you can take at various times (not just weekends). I can't wait to try out a class or sewing event to meet some other people. I hope to give this place 5 stars in a future visit. :)

On this most recent trip to the MD Burbs for a Yelp event, I was delighted to find Three Little Birds just a few miles from my hotel. So I stopped in during my lunch break on a mission to find just the right fabric for a wedding quilt I'm sewing for a dear family member. This shop is really, really cute! They carry mostly modern fabrics, plus a ton of knitting/crocheting supplies. In the back is a classroom area, and they have lots of project samples, notions, and one of the best selection of sewing books I've seen. The best news is: I found the perfect fabric for the wedding quilt! And I had just enough space in my suitcase to get it home and start cutting. Highly recommend this little shop if you're in the area and on a hunt for some new fabric!

Such a wonderful local business!…read more I left the doll hobby several years ago, but I decided to venture out here with a close friend who still had hers. It was a bit of a drive, but a beautiful one driving through some picturesque scenery and some farmland. The shop itself is located in a small shopping center, with a 7-11 and other small businesses. Our GPS directed us slightly furhter down the road, overshooting the store location, so please watch out for that if you are driving there with GPS. At first it seemed like the shop staff were watching us closely, but I can't blame them. Their store has some expensive wares, and dolls that are literally works of art. But once my friend took her dolls out of the case, the shop owners were extremely helpful and kind, making conversation with us and telling us what was around the shop. They have pretty much anything you can think of for asian ball-jointed dolls: full sets of the dolls themselves, clothing, wigs, shoes, furniture, accessories, tools for maintenance, everything! And they carry all sorts of popular brands that are big in the BJD community, including Dollzone, Luts, Ringdoll and Soul Doll to name a few. They carry many popular, well-known clothing and wig brands as well, including Dollheart and Leeke. One of the owners told me that occasionally, they host meet-ups in the store with scavenger hunts and contests, so doll enthusiasts were encouraged to attend. If you visit the store and give the owners your e-mail address, they will notify you of upcoming events. It was certainly very tempting being in this store. It reminded me of how great the BJD community is, and the creativity and passion that go into these beautiful dolls. I love small businesses too, so I only wish them the best and want to give them my full support!
