    Potato carmelized onion knishe
    J S.

This could be featured on diners drive in and dives. Great ma and pa place for a variety of knishes, homemade chicken soup ( just like my grandma's and mom's). I have been buying it by the gallon. They have beef hotdogs with NY style toppings. I haven't tried their chicken wraps. These potato knishes are plain, broccoli and cheese, carmelized onions and a mix of onion mushrooms and kasha (a tasty grain). You can get a combination hotdog knife and drink for about $6. It's unique and delicious. Very nice owners who love what they do and offer great food at reasonable prices

Kasha, mushroom and onions knish - knish is a savory baked pastry
    Ian S.

Knish King is a little gem of a place offering delicious comfort food. Knish is basically a savory filled pastry made of a thin dough stuffed with ingredients of choice. Mainly, there's seasoned potatoes inside them with the other ingredients chosen. There's 5 main varieties usually offered here of which I tried the cheddar broccoli and the second was kasha (cooked buckwheat grains), onion & mushroom. Wowza! Absolute deliciousness. I'd highly recommend you check this place out and be patient with any hurdles the one man operation might face with their register.

Staff here is amazing! Before I placed my order, my waitress brought out a bunch of items for me to…read moretry since this was my first time at the restaurant. I liked every sample but I ended up with the Efo Riro (pronounced eh-faw ree-raw) or the "vegetable soup" with goat and a side of fufu. It comes from the Yoruba people of Southwest Nigeria. "Efo" means greens/spinach, and "Riro" means to stir. So, it literally translates to "stirred greens." I choose this because it has a deep, savory, earthy, and slightly pungent flavor, that is the secret ingredient called Iru (fermented locust beans). It acts like umami (similar to how soy sauce or miso works in Asian cuisine). The greens are cooked down in a rich sauce made of red bell peppers, Scotch bonnet peppers (for heat), onions, and Palm Oil. The palm oil is what gives West African food its distinct richness and often a reddish-orange tint. Instead of rice, I got the Fufu (The "Swallow"). It's a white ball made from real yams, not sweet potatoes or fermented Cassava. In Nigeria, this category of food is called "Swallow." It isn't meant to be chewed on its own like bread; it is meant to be swallowed along with the soup. My waitress brought out a bowl of water and taught me how to eat the Fufu. She told me to pinch off a small piece of the Fufu, roll it into a ball with my fingers, make a small indentation with your thumb (to turn it into a spoon), scoop up the Efo Riro and meat, and swallow it. Texture is like sticky dough. It is a blank canvas designed to balance out the intense spice and saltiness of the Efo Riro. I wish I had more time but I had a flight to catch. Otherwise, I would have taken advantage of their Sunday buffet and try all the other dishes they have to offer! Oh, did I mention how amazing their entire staff is? Right before I left, another waitress gave me a puff puff to try. It's like a chewy fried doughnut and that was delicious! Will be back for their buffet when I'm in the area.

For me as an American it tastes really close to Caribbean food, just a little more potent or stronger. Not salty or super spicy .. just.. super flavorful. Fu fu taste like mash potatoes with no salt or butter lol. Do I recommend ? Yes. Would I go back? Yes.

Great food in a distant Brandon mini mall…read more My daughter had an away soccer game in Lithia, and so we decided to try TasteaPho for lunch on our way home. The location was such that we usually pick a more convenient restaurant, but this time, everything lined up! The restaurant was empty when we arrived (noon on a Saturday), and it stayed mostly empty throughout our meal. I think they mostly do takeout and delivery service. We ordered: fried shrimp, french fries, edamame, soup dumplings, siu mei, and beef chow fun. And a couple drinks. The food came out quickly and piping hot. The edamame were slightly overcooked. Everything else was perfect and delicious. Everything was very tasty. Serving sizes were very good. We had a LOT of leftovers, which all heated up well. I wish this was located closer to a freeway and/or closer to the places in Brandon that we do go to, but it is worth the drive. I've already recommended the place to my parents and sister.

I want something authentic and flavorful and that's exactly what I got here. It's a small restaurant with those I feel like are the best places to get authentic food. Inside was not decorated the most extravagant, but it was clean so that still marks good in my book. And I'm really there for flavorful food not for the decoration. The staff was really friendly and welcoming. Now on to do dumplings. They had a sign that said everything is made in house, but I've been to places where they say that and it doesn't taste homemade. But I can positively say that this food was made in house! These were the best dumplings and shumai i have ever had. They were flavorful and delicious. The shumai mine was the best one I ever had. I really wanted to go back the next day to get more just to take home. The steamed dumplings were really good. I'm more so eat fried dumplings, but I love how good they were and I love the sauce that went with it. The shrimp dumplings were really good too and juicy. The dumplings are also bigger than I usually get which was very surprising in a good way because I'm used to really extra small ones. Overall, I will definitely be back in the next couple of days to get more.

We don't have many tea rooms in this area. It was great to see another one pop up. It's a new family-owned (mother & daughter) tea room on Moon Avenue near Morgan Street. The owners have done a great job in setting the mood with beautiful décor and music. I really love how they've set everything up. It's such a warm and open space. There's even a private room for group seating. It's all very lovely. My reserved time for Royal Tea was set for 11:00 am on a weekday. It's by reservation only. I pretty much had the room to myself since it's so brand new. I don't expect that it will stay that way for too long. Everything was delicious! The wild rice soup was the first course, and it was very comforting. The sandwiches were all so tasty. I really love their grandmother's chicken salad. I'm not usually a fan of yellow curry in chicken salad, but I loved this recipe. It didn't have an overwhelming taste of curry like others I've had in the past. It was just the right amount of everything. I think it even had pecans. The artichoke & cream cheese sandwich was so unique & tasty. The same goes for the cucumber dill open faced sandwich. So wonderful! The homemade cinnamon chip scone and desserts on the top tier were all delicious. The flavor selections can be seasonal or daily, so you may get something different each time. I was hoping to try their sweet potato pie dessert, but I missed it. I'll be on the look out for it the next time it's offered. They serve Harney & Sons tea. The mango black tea was a winner. It was very welcomed on an unseasonably cold day. The service was fantastic! I was offered another pot of tea, but one pot was enough for me. I may take them up on it next time. Yes, there will be many more visits in the near future.

Checking out took longer than it took us to eat. They were also having a rough time turning tables over because no one had time to clean the tables. A napkin sat on the floor almost the entire time we were there. I really hope it was just a bad day with a call our or two but if not, management really needs to sit and think about some introspection.
