I had an appointment in Brandon the other day, so I stopped in to the Knish King since it's been on my "give it a try" list for a while. It's a very unique shop across from the hospital-basically a lunch counter that serves hotdogs, knishes and a couple of desserts. Definitely old-school, but at least they have a square so you won't need cash. The dog was decent, but the knish stole the show. This could be featured on diners drive in and dives. Great ma and pa place for a variety of knishes, homemade chicken soup ( just like my grandma's and mom's). I have been buying it by the gallon. They have beef hotdogs with NY style toppings. I haven't tried their chicken wraps. These potato knishes are plain, broccoli and cheese, carmelized onions and a mix of onion mushrooms and kasha (a tasty grain). You can get a combination hotdog knife and drink for about $6. Knish King is a little gem of a place offering delicious comfort food. Knish is basically a savory filled pastry made of a thin dough stuffed with ingredients of choice. Mainly, there's seasoned potatoes inside them with the other ingredients chosen. There's 5 main varieties usually offered here of which I tried the cheddar broccoli and the second was kasha (cooked buckwheat grains), onion & mushroom. Wowza! Absolute deliciousness. What a fun little spot we found for lunch. It is a take out only restaurant so be prepared to take it with you. The gentleman running the Knish King is so very friendly and explains what each of the Knish are and his reason for making his desserts was very funny. He did not want to make desserts but kept getting request, so he makes a noodle dessert called Noodle Kugel. I think it taste like bread pudding and tapioca flavor. It was different but very good. We tried the Carmalized onion, broccoli cheddar and Kasha, mushroom, onion (kasha is buckwheat). They were all very good, but I thought a bit salty, my family loved them. We will be back for a lunch to go and more Noodle Kugel. read more

The caramelized onion/potato knish was first rate with a flaky crust and creamy potato filling. Same goes for the chicken soup, which was flavorful and not too salty. Outstanding Matzo-balls as well - light and with the perfect consistency. Now if they only carries Corned-beef on Rye - yum! read more

Knish King Brandon FL About 4 years ago when we first moved from NJ we found ourselves in a barren desert of good restaurants, Since then we have successfully fereted out several good ones although they are still few and far between. We had all but given up on the little joys, like a good jewish deli; the pastrami, rye bread and of course, potato knishes. Then one day while shopping at the Lowes in Brandon we saw a food truck right out front. This proprietor sold potato knishes, similar enough to what we remembered to evoke a warm and fuzzy feeling. As snowbirds, we migrate north around May then return, this past Sept. only to find this food truck had sold his business. The new owner, of course, didn't make knishes. So off we went disappointed that our culinary find had dissappeared.. Nothing lasts forever we lamented... Then last week I did a web search and found the Knish King in Brandon. I finally went there yesterday to find that this place is owned and operated by the same guy! Barry... What luck! Now for the review. Great knishes. Good taste, good texture good dough shell. The new variations are also good: carmelized onion, broccoli and cheese and several others. However in the way of constructive criticism: 1. For the money, the knishes should be larger. $3.75 is very expensive for such a small knish. 2. Barry should put more onions in the carmelized onion variety; onions that are caramelized more. 3. Barry should caramelize the dough shell on the top and bottom; this would make them taste better and would more closely resemble genuine jewish deli knishes. Other than that we are glad to have found this deli food still available... Further we hope Barry takes our suggestions; especially the size. Making the knishes larger would not add much cost and would serve his customers better... read more

I have to start by saying that this was my very first time trying a knish. I've seen them before in Jewish bakeries when I was growing up in Miami. There was also a food court restaurant in Dadeland Mall that sold knishes. I wish I could remember the name of it. It's not there anymore. Anyway, it never really interested me back then because it looked like a heavy blob of fried potato. Little did I know until today that it's actually very light and isn't necessarily fried. This new knish shop is located on the corner of the old strip plaza on Moon and Oakfield where Quickly Boba is located. It faces Moon Avenue, so it's a little hard to see from the road if you're driving down Oakfield Drive. I had read a review on Yelp which is no longer visible. I swear it was there a couple of days ago. I decided to stop by on my way home from work to try it. So, I walked in to the shop and was greeted by the owner. It's family run and the knishes are made from scratch. There were a couple of different types of knish. All of them are baked instead of fried. The broccoli & cheese was my favorite so far. They also have a spinach, caramelized onion, and a buckwheat knish (kasha, mushroom, & onions). The latter one sounds very interesting and I'm looking forward to trying it next time. I didn't see any with meat (which is great for vegetarians). The owner did give me a sample of his homemade chicken soup and it was delicious. They also have BBQ pork, chicken wraps, and I believe I saw hot dogs and sausages on the menu. It appears to be takeout only. I ended up buying 3 knishes. I shared them with my mother. They were very light and tasty. Mom was quite happy with her Broccoli & Cheese one. I'm always happy when I can find something that she'll eat. The caramelized onion was also very good. I am so glad to finally have somewhere to get a knish in Brandon! These are the real thing, just like I used to pick up in the good Jewish Deli back home 20+ years ago. I highly recommend the broccoli and cheese - yum! There's also a knish/hot dog combo option, if you like hot dogs. (I do not, so I got 2 knishes instead.) Now for the negatives/warnings: The hours are worse than the bank (11am-5pm M-F) & and it is counter service to-go place only, plan accordingly. Also, use your map feature the first time you visit, the place is kind of hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the plaza. read more

Everything we had was DELICIOUS! The carmelized onion knish was to die for. The kasha, mushroom, and onion knish was amazing as well. Absolutely loved the matzo ball soup, it was simple but perfect. Delicious! I ordered three different kinds of knish for a small party. My order was ready on time and carefully packed. They even included heating instructions. All my guest loved them! The broccoli/cheddar was the overall favorite, but the spinach and onion were gone just as fast. The knish were a great little surprise, something I hadn't served before and a total hit! I am not sure why my review for this place is not at the top. I take my reviews very seriously, as I take the time and effort to write as detailed as I can about my experiences. I travel a lot, and this place has spoiled me! I finally found a place that has consistently fresh and delicious knishes that I frequent everytime I'm here. I travel a lot for my career and I have tried many knishes in my travels. This tops them all. I can't believe I finally found a place that has fresh, yes completely fresh everyday knishes with spinach as well as others. My favorite is the caramelized onion and they never chince on the quality or the ingredients. I first came here with my son who had the Italian sausage with onions and peppers. I had been looking for a place for good, fresh knishes for so long in Brandon because my favorite place had been sold. On my 3rd visit here, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the owner was the same owner of that favorite place and he had just expanded into a bigger location. He is proud to tell you that he hand crafts each one, and my husband loves the chicken soup. The prices are reasonable and the food is consistently savory. read more
