The Northern Rail Traincar Inn delivered exactly what they advertised and more. My husband and I…read morestayed at this Inn while visiting our retirement property up in Two Harbors. This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

This hotel is an absolute joy to stay in. Yes the rooms are extremely small, but of course you…read morewould expect that. It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

Cons: Very high price compared to most lodging options in the area. Bed mattress is very firm. There is a thin layer of pillow top, but it is well broken down. I had a back ache both early mornings, waking up well before I wanted to. The ironing board is one of those mini ones with a dirty old cover. Although there were wine glasses, there was no cork screw in the room. Although there are big candles in the bathroom there is no matches provided to light them. The s'mores kit we were provided had stale marshmallows. One of the bathroom sink bowls had some kind of unsightly chemical damage. In-room TV is small (20") and low quality. Refrigerator froze our milk solid. I'd be fine with the issues of this place, if the price was lower. For the price they are charging, none of these cons should exist.

In A Nutshell:…read more -Larsmont Cottages is a very nice place if you want to get away for a long weekend. -It's definitely "glamping" where you can either be a part-owner or rent. -Since I don't live in the area, we ended up renting a small room during 2018 Labor Day weekend. -Parking was always easy to find. -The location is off the beaten path & along the north shore of Lake Superior. -You can ask for a free smores kit at check-in & then use any of their awesome campfires along the lake. -They will light the fires for you & provide free wood to toss in. -The room we rented had comfortable queen-sized bed & private bathroom. -We even got a free bottle of champagne in ice & a personal message welcoming us. Overall, I would stay here again. I love Two Harbors and the entire area. It's much better than going to Lake Tahoe bc there's little to no traffic & Lake Superior is the biggest freshwater lake in America.

This place is a total gem!…read more In my second visit to Minnesota, I was set on going to the Boundary Waters - alas, it was not meant to be. All the better because my friend and I ended up at Dodges Log Lodges and had a memorable time. We were in the Fitzgerald Log Cabin, which boasted a clean inside, a futon couch/bed, fireplace, a kitchen with everything you need to cook (except the food), and TWO little balconies with chairs facing Lake Superior. The decor had a few too many bears for my taste, but it sure did the trick to get me out of city mode and into cozy log cabin mode. Now I never got to actually meet the managers, but whatever they are doing they are doing right. You could live in this little log cabin it was so welcoming and cozy. The door on the Lake Superior side had a screen so you could leave it open and fall asleep/awaken to the water... and the lower balcony a few steps down from the front door? My friend and I are convinced it existed for star gazing - the chairs on this little balcony reclined to the perfect angle to both sip wine and lose yourself in the stars! I would come back here without hesitation- heck, there are cabins for sale and I spent part of the drive back encouraging my friend to purchase one. :)

Wave watching, seeing ships, the eagle that passed by daily, the warmth of the fireplace in the cool of the evening..and being able to grill made this place great. It was peaceful, relaxing and so comfortable. We didn't want to leave.
