Once you step inside you're taken back to the good old days when grandma made cookies and belly filling breakfasts (these are daily occurrences at the Inn). Antiques are artfully displayed throughout the halls and each room has its own theme and decor. Everything is colorful, clean, and comfortable; it's a wonderful and laid back place to relax and enjoy the Big Bear lifestyle. Along with daily breakfast and scrumptious cookies, the inn offers complementary beverages and popcorn as well as select alcohol for a price. Laurie, Kameron, Will, Ana (and a few others whose names I didn't catch) work hard to keep this place lovely inside and out. Everyone here is friendly and easy going for a truly welcoming stay. This is a special place that encourages even the busiest of travelers to stop and smell the roses. I highly recommend Apples B&B!

Slow down; easy to overshoot the two entrances from Moonridge. I stayed in the Crabapple room that faced the main road. While I felt safe, I did not want to open the window due to road noise. No fridge, microwave, or closet in room. Attractive decor throughout; it looks a bit overwhelming on the photos but is quite relaxing. The staff confirmed that the owner has a clear vision of what the decor should be. A couple had a wedding on the Saturday; they and some guests stayed overnight. It was good to see some of the wedding party at breakfast! Enjoyed stepping onto the paved Rathbun Trail behind the Inn for a short walk The Inn could adjust the security light to not switch on whenever someone drives down Moonridge. The road is busy, so the security light stays on until after midnight and then goes on and off.

From the beginning to the end we had the best experience. The mansion has so much history, is perfect to accommodate multiple families with en suites, huge kitchen, many places to relax, and plenty to do. We had kids from ages 4 to 10. We thought we would run out of things for them to do. Not at all. The mansion is so huge, they had plenty of room to stretch out, the hills on the property provided for fun sledding and snowman building. The adults were either at the sauna, jacuzzi, kitchen, outside in the snow walking the 2 acres of property or just relaxing in one of the many comfy nooks. I highly recommend Edgewood Mansion for any type of event whether it's a birthday trip, family reunion, corporate retreat or any other purpose where you want to feel like you're at home, or provided for like a Queen. The location which is located higher up in the mountains is away from the traffic. The accommodations are immaculate and the concierge services provided by Chantal who was available to us 24/7 before we got there and during, was spot on. We catered instead of cooking which was so much easier on everyone so we could enjoy each other's company versus cooking. Chantal gave us choices and she had Mexican food delivered one night, Italian catered another and on New Years Eve we had a personal chef, Mike who is a master chef create the most delicious surf and turf dinner. We had piles of Alaskan king crab legs and the freshest, tastiest filet. Everything was provided. This was an amazing trip because of where we stayed, the owner Laura who was so accommodating and Chantal who was so helpful. Our friends have not stopped thanking us for coordinating this trip. We all got to spend time together with the kids together and not feeling overwhelmed because everything was at our fingertips. Laura, the owner, does a fantastic job of welcoming you, walking you through the sometimes labyrinthine maze of rooms, and welcoming you to a piece of history. As we travelled during Covid19, the property felt safe, clean and secure and we had no concerns about our health or safety. The last time was October 2020, and it was great to discover that UCLA continues to upgrade its facilities with new amenities including a tavern (they serve adult beverages!) as well as pickleball courts. We've enjoyed our visits every time, but IMO the cabins are due for a renovation/upgrade. After our most recent visit Memorial Day weekend, I would also warn guests to beware of oakworms or leafrollers (moth caterpillars that rappel down on silken threads) which seemed to be everywhere this time of year. The main lodge had tea and coffee stocked every day, which was so nice. Rooms also came equipped with a Keurig in case you didn't want to make the trek to the lodge. The staff were incredibly kind. From food staff to receptionist to bar staff, everyone was so accommodating. One small thing though was the drinks from the bar tasted a bit funny. Both mine and my partner's drinks had this weird barbecue sauce flavor, which was odd! The lodge is a quick 20-minute (free) bus ride to the village, which is small but definitely worth a visit. :)

It was to culminate with going to Oak Knoll Lodge, our family's traditional vacation spot when we grew up. We used to spend a week there swimming in the pool with a slide, playing shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping pong and going into town for some shopping and hiking. We booked the entire lodge for 3 nights including one night free for booking 2 nights. We were excited to experience the Oak Knoll Lodge with our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I should have known there was a problem when I tried to confirm the booking a month in advance and the phone number on the website was not answered with no mailbox having been set up. After many attempts I finally got thru to someone who was representing the new owner. They told me our reservation was there, but only for 2 nights so I added the 3rd night for an increased cost. I paid over $5,000 for the 50% deposit. On the day of arrival some of my family members got there early but could not check in without me or my brother being there. Then my daughter called to tell me the pool was empty and there was nobody in the lodge, just a sign to call a different lodge to check in at. I was upset, because with the temperatures topping at 80 degrees the pool was essential for a good time. I called the phone number, and the representative could not give me any information other than the pool was not available. She refused to give me the name or number of the owner and only the first name of the manager, no number to call. She did have the manager call me and then he had the owner call me who said the pool had an issue 3 days ago. I asked why I wasn't told about this, and he said it wasn't his fault it was not working. He then wouldn't let my people check in without us first making payment in full. I eventually got him to let my people check in and he agreed to give me a 25% discount and the use of another pool at another lodge. When my family finally checked in, there were no amenities. No shuffleboard, no horseshoes, no pool and the only ping pong table was in the office that had nobody working there. Many of the cabins were dirty without working stoves, microwaves or refrigerators. There were even mouse droppings in the beds, bowls and flooring. Some of the cabins were missing bedding, pillows, utensils... Because of the missing amenities, unsanitary condition and poor maintenance of the cabins we refused to pay the balance of what we owed and the owner, Ken, then refused to let us use the ping pong table or main lodge area during our stay. The pool he promised to let us use at a lodge over a mile away was small, no slide, dirty, seating for only 5 people and no water in it. The pool at Oak Knoll Lodge, we later found out, had not been used or working for a long time. When I told Ken about all the problems and our unwillingness to pay the balance, I never heard back from him, the manager or the check in person although someone did send a person to clean the rat droppings. We ended up having to pay an extra $4,000 to give my family other activities to do which included the Alpine Slide entertainment area and the Lodge at Big Bear with a working pool that would keep them cool and have fun to finish what was supposed to be our first ever epic reunion. The reunion ended up great no thanks to the poorly managed and laughably inadequate accommodations at the Oak Knoll Lodge. If you decide to go there, you best check it out first as it was clearly not what was represented on the website.
