Only a few knowledgeable staff Backorders are constantly messed up; staff call and say 'your order is ready for pickup' but then you go there and pieces of it have still not arrived or they simply can't find them. Online sales support is a joke; all they give are 'quick' answers, regardless if they are accurate or useful. Had an open support ticket and found out that they DIDNT PUT ANY DETAILS in it from what had been discussed....called back to follow up and they claimed that they were 'waiting for information, from ME..' To compound the issue, went in to the store to try to resolve a tool/fitting issue and was out-right lied to by one of the managers that 'this product can come from different places...and it's overseas....and they don't understand manufacturing specifications'...except when I pointed to the tag on the item that clearly says 'MADE IN CANADA'...so then the back-peddling began and the only 'solution' provided was 'just return it'. Telling your customers to effectively 'GO AWAY' is a poor business model... Product, yes. Service, No. read more

A DIY dream come true. All the tools that you thought existed but could not find. Well guess what they are all here. It's like being at Santa's workshop with all access pass. Staff is knowledgeable and pleasant. No nonsense kind of shopping for what you require. You want welding glove we got 'em. The testosterone is oozing out of this place. Ladies if you don't know what to get your DIY husband get him a gift card for this place. He will come home with a new tool and be so happy. No tea at 4 o'clock here. read more

KMS hosts some major "tent" events every once in a while (about once a month during the summer I've been told), where they have some vendors promoting some products, as well as workshops where they talk about things related to carpentry or DIY. And of course there's that wonderful hot dog stand. The only downside is that as the tent takes up their main parking lot, you now have to park farther down the street. And it becomes a war zone as there simply aren't enough spots. If you're not in a hurry, may I suggest timing your visits to coincide with these events if you can. read more

Seriously, how hard is it to provide good customer service? I ordered two tool stands and they brought them in from another store. When they arrived, one unit was a floor model that was a completely different finish and colour as the one in the box. I phoned the Coquitlam store to ask if they could bring in another boxed unit and they told me that there were none available at their other locations and that I had to back order a unit and they will call me when a new shipment arrives. I easily looked on their website and saw that the Chilliwack location had two units, so I phoned them and they assured me that they have two new units, still in boxes and all I had to do was ask Coquitlam to request a transfer. Learning that the employee didn't even contact other stores before lying to me about their inventory, I phoned back the Coquitlam store to ask them to transfer one out. The manager of the department told me I shouldn't need to exchange the inferiorly finished floor model and that I should feel lucky that the floor model was already assembled! (Lol, whaaa...?) He then told me I would first have to come into the store to return the poorly finished stand and then order another and then they would transfer the stand from the other location. Come on guys, stop with the laziness and just TRY to help out your loyal customers. Not helpful. read more

Ordered a needle scaler advertised as an Ingersoll Rand 125 ( Needle scaler made in Taiwan) from their Feb 2021 flyer promo as the price reflected discount from list. Good stuff. Received the tool six days later (on day prior to promised delivery date. Also good (paid extra for FedEx ground) Here is the not so good part. I received an Ingersoll Rand 125-A which is their new cheap pot metal Chinese copy of the Taiwanese 125. Knowingly or unknowingly, this was effectively a fake promo price as the 125A lists for half the price of the Taiwanese 125 which is the tool KMS advertised, plus I ended up paying freight. I could have bought the same 125-A locally for the same or less and saved myself the freight or alternatively the off brand Chinese brand made on the same production line for 150.00 less. Very disappointing. RMA lady was very polite and efficient. (also good) Product is being returned to them and I will not purchase from KMS Tools & Equipment Ltd again. read more

This is literally as good as it gets. In the summer they have tent sales with lots of interesting demonstrations and sales galore. At these tent sales they also raise money for charity by giving out hot dogs by donation. KMS has a large tool selection for whatever trade you are in. Most of it's good nae brand stuff. They have an interesting auto section where they sell off used car parts from wrecked cars. They also have a paint spray booth you can rent if you are looking to paint your own car. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. read more

bought a Milwaukee heated hoodie for the winter at Kms it broke within 6 months. Kms and thier sales staff wont do anything.... even though it goes against there return policy online. the miserable old sales rep I dealt with said that's not our problem take it to Milwaukee. so after 15 years I won't be buying a single thing at Kms in the future. I'll go straight to Milwaukee like your negative employee told me too do. read more

This place is so much fun I often get wood after I leave, well wood for my next woodworking project that is. Chances are if you are big on power tools you either A: know about this place already B: Think the internet is just for porn. Well sure there is a lot of truth to B but this review is for the people that normally head to places like Home Depot for their power tools. KMS is power tools like Sephora is for makeup, in fact if there was a makeup applying power tool out there, KMS will sell it. These guys are great, they have staff that know exactly how the tools work but will not make you feel intimidated, even if you did just refer to the jig saw as the bouncy cutty thingie. Prices are also very completive, beating out the places like Home Depot, so if you see a tool you like at Home Depot it wouldn't hurt to give these guys a visit. KMS will carry everything from automotive tools, small wood working/hobby tools to large shop equipment and everything in-between. read more

KMS is by far the best place to buy tools in the Vancouver area, period. The selection of hand tools, power tools, safety equipment, and what not is the best I have seen anywhere. Price wise, there is no need to go elsewhere or even to the states to beat their pricing. The staff is knowledgeable and quite capable of handling most supply questions. If you like high quality mechanics tools like Proto, they have pretty much what you are looking for. My only wish is that there was a location closer to Richmond. I would be here weekly. read more

Kms tools is a pretty good store for half decent tools. I have been a on and off shopper at the Langley and Abbotsford stores. There is one thing I do not understand. They do not accept American money at all. This makes no sense as they just moved their Abbotsford store to beside the Sumas border crossing. Kinda silly read more

My son and I go regularly when they set up the BBQ to cook smokies by donation to raise money for a charity. I've also bought turning tools there that aren't typically in stock anywhere else except Lee Valley, and if you wait for a sale then KMS will be a bit cheaper. The people are helpful if you can find them. Go on a weekday evening if you want help or advice. The good news is that the person you talk to will likely actually know something about their area -- a rare thing nowadays. Can't say that I've bought much here on that I've felt was a great bargain. Cheap stuff like Princess Auto sells goes on sale regularly but the number of times I've gone into KMS looking for something and come out empty handed (either because of lack of stock or prices that are significantly higher than I've seen elsewhere) has grown to a point that I typically don't go at all anymore unless (a) I know they have something specific I want on sale or (b) they are having a BBQ and I'll just browse (but not buy anything because the lines will be huge on these days). Made the mistake of buying some turning projects (pens) from them that were inexpensive, but unfortunately use nonstandard sizes. I have a couple of OK fountain pens that I can't buy ink cartridges for anywhere ... bummer. On the other hand, if you are looking for 12" sanding disks there aren't many places other than KMS that will have stock sitting waiting for you. read more

Ordered nails for a job that were in stock on the website I paid for over night service and received 1 box 1.5 weeks after ordering. We are on week 4 and I finally got a response from an email sent 2 weeks ago. (Left 4 messages and sent 2 emails). They are hoping next week the rest will ship out! Zero communication! You can't even reach the online department through their channels you have to call other departments to go take a written note up. (The actual in person retail people were amazing on the phone! My complaint is only with whoever runs the online department. So in short waste of time and money. The delay also cost me significant time since my local supplier is around 1-2 week wait time and had to order through them after all. If you have 5 weeks to wait for your order jump on in. If you don't well...there you go. read more

I discovered KMS through a friend and recalled that he had a KMS catalogue in his room. We went there on a whim as he needed to check out to see if a specific automotive tool was in stock. Turns out, it wasn't, but luckily it was hot dog day! Boy was he pleased! Anywho, this place is a man's candy shop! Don't get me wrong, but girls that know their way around a shop will love this too. To me this place is awesome, it's one of my favorite places for tools! It is stocked with woodworking, automotive tools, shop equipment, and other tools. One thing I love about this place is that the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Although this place isn't as spacious as other hardware stores, you get what you need, ask a few questions, and go home to fix or build whatever project you have going. read more

I've never understood why tool stores are open the same time workers are usually working. It makes more sense to me to open around noon and close about 10. Then more trades can work overtime and not have to worry about missing the tool store. That's my quick rant and why you lose a start. Other than that, you have mostly everything I need. I've even started coming to you more than others. So props on the selection. Go Bosch or go home! read more

I recently purchased a two wheel dolly from KMS Tools in Langley. It was an impulse buy, as I already owned a dolly, but this one was aluminum - built by Makita, and I didn't have an aluminum one built by Makita. I bought the floor model but failed to realize that it also featured a heavy weight tie-down strap, that was not present at the time. A week later, I received a phone call from KMS, reporting that that they had found a tie-down strap and traced it to my purchase. That's Customer Service. I would like to thank Brad Hutfelter, of KMS Tools Langley, for going above and beyond in providing a level of customer service not often seen these days. Good on you, sir. Nordin read more

On Thursday June 11 to look at some Veto tool bags that show there was 1 in stock in their Coquitlam store, but I couldn't find it on their shelves, customer service man in the construction area didn't even want to bother helping me look for it so I left extremely disappointed with their customer service, and on my way out another customer service lady named Lois help me look for it when I've asked her and she couldn't find it and looked at their Abbotsford branch and they showed 2 in stock and had it transferred to their Coquitlam store after I've paid for it. Went there on Thursday June 17 to pick it up and Lois wasn't there but the same person whom ignored me the first time didn't want to honor their price match policy which is clearly written in their online and flyer policy when I found a cheaper price online in Canada. Not a good place to shop and will tell everyone I know to shop online elsewhere next time since this brick and mortar stores is not honoring their written policy since I like to keep people locally employed instead of online shopping. Hit and miss with their prices. Do your homework on price comparison first, but stay away with this store. read more

I went into the KMS location in Chilliwack with my husband to purchase a few things. As we were looking around, I heard someone calling miss, I didn't think anything of it, then the cashier approached me and told me I must leave my bag at the front. I responded.."You mean my purse?" which she replied, "yes, its quite large." My purse is not large, and they do not provide lockers or any such secure place to leave a bag.( a purse hold many things, none of which you want to leave with a cashier.) At that point I felt like I was being targeted as a thief. I put down the items we were going to purchase and left the store, saying they just lost a customer. I have been shopping there for many years and have never felt so disrespected in the way they handled that. read more

When i go in to the KMS store I have a good experience, but ordering online is a completely different thing. They are unresponsive, uncommunicative, and unapologetic. I ordered an item that showed it was in stock in several stores including the coquitlam store. I received an acknowledgement of the order, then i waited, and waited. I tried calling their online order number and no one answered. I emailed, no one answered. I repeated those actions over a period of a week and no one ever answered. Finally 3 weeks later, someone replies to my email saying that the item was being back-ordered and would be another 3 or 4 weeks. So that would be a total of 7 weeks? The web page still shows some in stock, notably there is one in Victoria. It would take very little effort to have the Victoria store send me my item, but KMS doesn't do that. It seems the Coquitlam store is the online store, and no other store shares their inventory with the online store. I then informed KMS to cancel my order. Of course I haven't heard back from them, and it has been two weeks already. I checked my order on their website and it still shows active and waiting for backorder. In the meanwhile i ordered the same item from Busy Bee Tools, and received it a few days later. I won't be shopping at KMS again. read more

Last September (2009) I left a bunch of stuff for sale at KMS in the consignment dept. This has been a nightmare from the beginning they have not kept consistant records of what has been sold and what they have paid for they constantly excuse themselves from not mailing a check. A checque that they I have changed my old address with 3 three different people and they still say they sent my cheque to the old address and cannot issue a new one till the old one comes back in the mail which it never does and never shows up at the old address either. I have been buying tools at KMS for about 15 years now with pretty decent results over the years. I built two shops off of their tools! On January 10th, 2017 I ordered a Milwaukee drill kit through their online store. I needed it pretty quickly as my six year old Makita (that I bought from KMS) had packed it in. They took my money instantly but now it is 10 days later and I have NOTHING. I called them three days ago - no reply. I emailed them yesterday and got nothing back. I messaged them on Facebook and even though they got back to me fairly quickly, they didn't provide me with any answers or solutions. They just said they would look into it and now nothing! KMS, I have given you many, many chances. You really messed up this time. Tomorrow I will be going to Home Depot to buy my damn drill kit. I will call Visa and get a refund on payment. THANKS FOR A COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME. You have lost my business now along with my co-workers, my bosses and everybody else I know. I will make it my mission to guide everybody away from your store. read more

I ordered a laser level that was in stock online and in every store. 2 weeks later the item has not been shipped and the receptionist left a message with the ONE person who handles all online order inquiries. I have been to KMS Tools many times over the years and I have bought a lot of items from them BUT I will admit, I do not go as often now. I find the prices are not as competitive as they were years ago. The main reason I do not go often now is that the sale items in their monthly flyer seem to never be in stock. I went in today for the first time in a few months, to pick up some early Christmas presents that I had found in their flyer. Get this, of the 8 items I went for, they had 1 in stock. It is only the 8th of the month and a week before their usual 3 day (middle of the month) main sale they have monthly. Just not worth taking the time out of my busy day to go there only to be told this is out of stock or that is back ordered. They just do not order enough of the items they put on sale in their monthly flyer. I must not be the only one that feels like this because years ago the store was much busier with customers. I find the staff was more helpful a few years ago also. Many of the staff just don't seem to be motivated or have much desire to help the customer now. If you do shop at KMS, just beware of some sale items. I found in the past that items they listed on sale could be purchased locally at competitors stores for a cheaper 'everyday' price. Don't be fooled by some of their advertising. The items I went in for today could easily be purchased online for a cheaper price but I thought would support the local store. I gave up and decided to just buy these items online since I wasn't in a rush for them and I was tired of the usual KMS runaround I seem to get these days. read more

I have only ordered online from KMS Tools. It is might be a different experience if you can actually go into the store, but this company is absolutely horrible at running a web store. They have good prices and great products, but I think I am done with this company now. I have ordered stuff from them 3 different times, and it was the same experience. They take FOREVER to ship your items. normally getting close to 2 weeks before you get notification that your order has been shipped. All items show in stock when you do the order, but that makes no difference. They are horribly slow to answer emails. Something I bought from them went on sale at a lower price about a week before they shipped it. I sent them an email to ask them to get the lower price. Totally ignored. Took them 3 days to answer the email. I had asked them about when it would be shipped and to get the sale price on one of the items I had purchased. They answered the shipping question after 3 days, but total crickets on the better price. Atrocious customer service, horrible shipping and bad communication. This will be the last order I have for them. JCCayer is going to get all of my online tool business now. They have great customer service, ship normally within 1 day, and have great prices too. (plus free shipping on most stuff over a certain $ amount to boot) Totally different experience from shopping online with KMS. Get it together KMS!!! Web store experience is not even close to others. Purchased Bosch 232181 drill and driver combo for a good price knowing that it was limited quantity on Nov 25 2016. Jan 5, 2017 ask to refund which they confirm will cancel order Jan 6, 2017 but zero acknowledgement for causing inconvenience, just standard email to cancel order. Three stars because they responded within 24 hours and offered to cancel/refund. You expect better communication and customer care from a no so big online retailer trying to compete with others. I ordered a cabinet saw over the phone to the tune of $2800.00. It was a birthday present to myself as I have been woodworking for 40 years. I was very clear about when the saw would be available for pickup at the store. The salesperson was very helpful and as we live an hour north of Kelowna I had taken time off of work to pick the saw up from the store. When I arrived at the store the clerk sent me to the back counter to one of the salespeople. He asked if I had purchased the tabletop model; I showed him which saw I had ordered from the catalogue and his comment was "Oh so YOU purchased one of the larger ones?" I should mention that I am female and was not impressed with this person's attitude concerning female woodworkers. As it turns out the saw had not arrived and the salesman that I had spoken to remained at "lunch" and would not come out to talk to me. No apology, just " well in a perfect world the saw would be here". I was so annoyed I was going to cancel the order right there, but my husband talked me out of it, so I guess the moral of the story is they don't really want to cater to women. Such a shame that some people who work with the public are such chauvinists. read more
