We've been really happy with our experience at Best Taekwondo in Quincy…read more My wife practiced Taekwondo when she was growing up in Korea and earned her 3rd-degree black belt as a teenager, so she really wanted our two young girls, who are 3 1/2 and 4 years old, to have the opportunity to learn Taekwondo as well. We tried a couple of places closer to our home, but for one reason or another, they just didn't work out. After getting a couple of referrals from people at our church, we decided to give Best Taekwondo a try--and we're really glad we did. What really stands out to us is Master Seo. He is one of the select few Kukkiwon 8th-degree Grand Masters, which is pretty amazing, but what we appreciate most is how friendly and down-to-earth he is. He knows all of his students by name and really pays attention to each child. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to improve. Our girls, who are 3 1/2 and 4, really enjoy the kids' classes. My wife and I take the young adult class at 5:30 PM, which is a separate class from the kids' classes. It's been really nice that our whole family can practice Taekwondo at the same dojang, while the kids and adults have classes that are appropriate for their ages. The dojang is actually about 30 minutes from our house, so it's definitely not the closest Taekwondo school for us. But we still make the drive 2-3 times a week because we really like the environment and the instruction. For us, the extra drive is completely worth it. The dojang is small, but we actually really like that. It's very clean, comfortable, and cozy, and because Master Seo is the only instructor, the classes feel very personal. He knows the students, remembers their names, and pays attention to their individual progress. You don't get the feeling that you're just another student in a big school. Finding the right place for our girls was important to us, especially because my wife has a Taekwondo background herself. After trying a few places, we finally found somewhere that feels like the right fit for our family. If you're looking for a Taekwondo school in Quincy, especially for young kids, we definitely recommend giving Best Taekwondo a try. It's a solid traditional-style dojo that will teach you practical self-defense moves along with the philosophy of martial arts training. It will improve balance, flexibility, and confidence, while making you use your brain. This is more challenging than you'd expect. But it starts out slow, so don't worry if this is your first foray into the world of karate! 2) The workout. The instructors are highly experienced and definitely focused on overall fitness and progress of students, and run classes with this in mind. Take that, globo-gym! The instructors are also well respected in the martial arts community and have built a large network of guest instructors from Uechi schools across the country. 3) The students. You can get as much or as little as you want to from training with students of similar or more advanced skill, and there's a lot to take away if you want it. You can just come in a few times a week and train and go home, or you can meet some new friends and have people to grab sushi with after class. It's a pretty hard working and diverse little community. 4) Convenience. Classes are scheduled after work on weekdays and on weekends, and there are separate schedules for adult training and for kids. 5) Expertise.
