After looking at many different schools, we were sold on the Cha family as soon as we watched one of their classes for children. The Cha's artfully mixed rigor and discipline with compassion and understanding in managing a diverse group of students while keeping the class fun but structured. We were also impressed with their offering of family classes that allowed parents and children to train together--something which helped keep my son going through the program and kept him committed past his black belt. The Cha's are also very committed to the community they have built among their school's members. They do what they can to help and support families and were outstanding during the pandemic by structuring online classes, developing a remote testing program so that students could advance in rank, and driving and delivering belts to the students. Leading by example, the Cha's have created a community of members who are all supportive and respectful of each other. Since re-opening in the summer of 2021 in a beautiful new location, the Cha's are offering an outstanding program of in-person training (masked for now). Cha's Taekwon-Do is an excellent place for children to build confidence and discipline (that translates to school work), for families to train together and share in the experience, and for adults to improve their fitness and flexibility while learning a practical martial art. I have seen many other martial arts schools over the years and none compares to Cha's Taekwon-Do. It is definitely worth a look.

My son has been practicing with this studio for years. It has been incredible to watch his growth…read moreover that time. As a kid who sometimes has trouble concentrating in school, he is always focused in the taekwondo classes. The teachers know each student and are a perfect mix of firm and encouraging that helps the students to thrive. They also get to know the families and maintain a community feel around the school. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a martial arts school for themselves or their children.

We're hoping this will help with some behavioral issues and -- if Zoom doesn't turn out to be the best platform -- we're happy there are some in-person, socially-distanced options available as well. I highly recommend Grandmaster Moran as a karate teacher. I sought him out about three years ago…read morebecause my cousin had studied under him long ago as a child and had raved about the quality of instruction. As for myself, I had studied a number of styles of karate as a child (over a period of many years), and had achieved decent belt status at some, but never felt I really learned how to defend myself. My lessons with Grandmaster Moran over the past couple of years have changed that, and I finally feel confident that I would respond effectively if I were attacked. Grandmaster Moran is different from other karate instructors I've had. His teaching is practical. He's patient, caring, and understands karate at such a deep level, like none I've met before. I would recommend him to any adult who wants to learn true self-defense, and plan on sending my own child to his children's classes as soon as he is old enough.

In February 2013 I started training at Framingham Taekwondo under Master Roman de Sousa. Where do I begin? He's incredibly experienced as an athlete, an instructor, and a school owner. He is excellent at judging people's skills right off the bat, and customizing amazing, uplifting classes that challenge everyone, regardless of their level. Want to train for self defense? a fun, challenging workout? to compete? This school delivers, whatever your personal goals may be. As far as the students go, they've quickly become my friends. It's not every day you can walk into a gym or martial arts school and feel instantly welcomed. The camaraderie here is real, and everyone wants you to succeed, and you can't help but join right in, and feel the same towards everyone else. The assistant instructors are super nice, patient, and eager to help before or after class, and they are excellent at teaching the kids as well. There is plenty of parking, two training floors, changing rooms, bathroom, a waiting/viewing area, and the school is exceptionally clean at all times. I train Monday through Thursday and it's truly the highlight of my evenings. No need to look any further, check out Framingham Taekwondo!

Next, I've gone to a lot of different tai chi classes over the years, and this was not traditional at all. It was in a room where people were practicing martial arts, so there was a lot of grunting and fast movements as well as a few collisions as I was standing, trying to do tai chi. If you're OK with that sort of chaos, it might be entertaining to you, but don't expect anything traditional. I did however appreciate that they found a teacher for me, even though I was almost a half hour late after hunting for the correct location. That was nice.

Oom Yung Doe combines movement and meditation in a balance to create individualized programs for each and every student. The instructors are very knowledgable and give individualized attention, as well as are flexible in their schedules. Not only are there classes every weekday in the afternoon and evening, plus on Saturdays, but more than once, when I could not make it in for a class, an instructor has moved his schedule around so I could come in. If you are dedicated to the school, the school will be dedicated to you. Movement-wise, students study forms in eight different types and styles of martial arts, including many different weapons. While there is not an emphasis put on sparring, there are frequent self-defense portions of class so that students can defend themselves if faced with a bad situation. Students are also taught movements to help in medical issues they might have coming in, or to help prevent issues from coming up in the future. I have never been in better shape in my life. On top of it all, the school puts an emphasis on helping others in your every day life. While the message can get repetitive, it is always a good reminder that while you are helping yourself, you can always spend a little extra effort to help a fellow human being. Overall, I would highly recommend this school.
