My colleague and I were never here before, but we felt like we were treated as valued regular customers. I would rate the service among the best anywhere. Totally spectacular. The food was also great. Very nicely prepared and very well presented. A broad selection of menu choices and a nice selection of wines. The Kommodchen signature desert was a very nice surprise! Contrary to other reviews, I did feel that the prices were quite fair. In fact, I would call it a bargain considering the quality of the service and the wonderful food. I can not wait to return!

On my few days in Karlsruhe I've had the pleasure of coming here for dinner. This place is…read moredefinitely a gem. The owner and waiter are extremely nice and attentive. On my first visit, I was worried it would be difficult to order without knowing German at all but they spoke fluent English and had an English menu. The owner came back several times to check how I was doing. I ordered the salad with salmon and king prawns with extra seafood. It was amazing. The food quality is definitely among one of the best, although not Michelin star level but on par with Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. On my second visit as he carried the food out of the kitchen, the owner recognized me from my side view and greeted me by name. Needless to say, if I'm ever back in town, I'll be back.

My go-to every time I'm in Heidelberg. This place is under-rated at anything below 5 stars. I've…read morebeen here alone, on dates, with colleagues and even with my parents - all were equally impressed by the wine, the food and the ambiance. The wines by the glass are fantastic - my favourite is the Montepulciano - and they've a full selection in bottles. It's a wine bar so maybe that's expected; where they really excel is with the food. When ordering a main course, you're first treated to a flavourful amuse bouche. The steaks are top-notch, and the other mains (I've tried most of them) are large (sometimes too large), scrumptious and well-presented. The starters really stand out here too. My favourite is the Antipasto Italiano (great for sharing), while the salads are excellent too. Another favourite is the great-value, brine-cured mountain of Italian olives for €5.50. On ordering food you'll also be served freshly baked Italian bread, high quality olive oil with a slightly sharp bite, and sea salt. This is such a tasty combination that I find it hard to resist filling up on oil-dipped bread before the food even arrives! Finally, I love the friendly staff, who recognise and greet me every time, even though I live thousands on a different continent. Service is attentive and friendly by European standards; it's not the US so don't expect to be annoyed every 2 minutes by someone sniffing for tips and filling your water glass and asking how everything is. This restaurant is open late and takes credit cards - perfect for the jetlagged international traveller. They're located in Weststadt, right beside most of Heidelberg's international hotels. So you've no excuse not to stop by when in town.

Schnitzelbank is the highest rated restaurant in Heidelberg, and with just cause…read more We lucked out coming here around 1430 HRS because we just missed the lunch rush and just beat the early dinner crowd. The weather was beautiful for sitting outside. I wish I had gotten our server's name because he was outstanding. Friendly, witty, and willing to help navigate the menu - he made our dining experience even better. We started with a couple of local wines that were amazing - a red and a rosé. Some bread and butter came to our table with our escargot starter and side salad. The bread and starter were delicious. Our snails were hot and garlicky with plenty of juice to sop up. The side salad was also very tasty and fresh. For our mains I went with the Schnitzelbank Platter and my lady went with the Pepper Schnitzel. My platter came with a local delicacy called saumagen, as well as roasted pork, sausage, roasted potatoes, and sauerkraut. The saumagen was the highlight for me. Our server was also excited we got it. It is a local offering consisting of various meats and other items wrapped up in a stomach and served as a loaf-style meat. The pepper schnitzel was also outstanding - the sauce was indeed peppery, but it didn't smother the schnitzel, which was breaded nicely and not dry, as some schnitzels can be. And after all that food, still, an apple strudel. This was so worth it. I don't even like sweets in the USA, but in Europe, they are something else. This was something else. We had a lot of great meals on our trip, but this was probably the best. Not just for the food, but for the overall experience, it's easy to see why this is the shining star in Heidelberg.

The food was outstanding authentic German cuisine with a twist. The garlic Schnitzel is truly made for garlic lovers like me! The mushroom schnitzel had a flavor explosion when it hits your pallet. The wait staff was very friendly and accomodating, especially to Americans who don't speak German!
