Great stop in Skagway. Lucky we missed the line that was there when we first walked through Skagway. Such a simple good treat. The cinnamon sugar was great and we enjoyed the gold much style boutique inside the store. Plenty of items to look at while you waited in line
A must try when in Skagway! I've heard so many good things about this place when doing research about things to do on an Alaska cruise. This did not disappoint. The line is pretty long but I promise it goes super fast considering they only sell 1 thing. While in line we made friends with the person in back of us in line who was on the same cruise as us. Once at the front, we got 1 giant fry bread covered in cinnamon and sugar for $8. My daughter noticed a bunch of ducks displayed behind the cash register and asked if she could have one. As I was telling her no, the cashier pulled out a duck and asked if she could give it to her. She was so happy! It made her whole day. (If you didn't know, finding ducks on cruise ships is a big thing!) The fry bread was delicious! I love that they're made to order so you know it's going to be fresh! It kind of tasted like a cinnamon bagel chip like the ones you can get in Las Vegas! (IYKYK!) But, it was a bit thicker. It was super messy with crumbs and cinnamon sugar going everywhere. You definitely have to eat standing up. Overall, it was a nice, shareable snack while walking around the town.
Doing a bit of research as to what foods to try in Skagway, Klondike Doughboy was highly recommended. After completing the White Pass Yukon train excursion, we headed back into town. Shopped a bit as we made our way to Klondike Doughboy. It was around lunch time so I was surprised but super excited to see there was no line!! I was able to walk right up to the counter, order a doughboy, stepped to the right and was handed my order. Seemed like less than a minute. So although there was no line, i had noticed the staff continued to make the doughboys. I didn't understand it until a few minutes later, sitting across the street, enjoying the fried bread that people were making their way towards the shop and like that, there was a line out the door. We were super lucky. And yet, the line was moving pretty quickly because of the staff's expectations. Because there was no line, I didn't get a chance to shop the store. But it was super cute and they do have souvenirs for sale. They also sold drinks and shave ice, which I found strange for Alaska. But I get it now because Skagway, at 70 degrees is actually very warm if there are no clouds and no wind. I thought it was interesting to see people still drinking a can of Coca Cola with a surgary fried item. And yet, in Hawaii, there's a malasada stand next door to the shave ice truck. I should know better. Staff was super friendly along with the unexpected quick service. Almost forgot, the fried bread is big, like a 12" size pizza. It was just me and my sister and so we split it. I liked it and liken it to a flat malasada from Leonord's bakery in HI. Would be interesting if they made filled fried bread. But if they did, I didn't get a chance to browse the menu because I wanted to get in and out of there. Also, I thought it was fairly priced at $8 because of the size of the fried bread which I equated to four malasadas that sell for $2.25 each. So do I recommend Klondike Doughboy? Absolutely and plan to revisit on a future cruise.
We visited Klondike Doughboy to get a quick snack. They specialize in deep-fried, cinnamon sugar-coated pieces of chewy dough about 10 inches in diameter. We waited a few minutes for ours and it was scrumptious because it was warm and fresh! The airy texture was similar to this Chinese fried donut. In addition to the doughboys, their store carried a lot of snacks and food-related souvenirs. We also got a snow cone (can't go wrong with that, right?) even though it was cold and raining outside. And, we also bought a couple of jars of salmon to take home. The staff were very helpful and friendly!

This well known Alaskan treasure is a small little shop in downtown Skagway. The well known doughboy is definitely worth it. It's tasty and is one of those things you have to try if you're in the area. It's $8 and is a little bit more priced than what it may be but it's definitely worth it to get it. Service was quick and efficient to get through the line. If you are in the area, probably for an Alaskan cruise, I would definitely give this a recommendation to try.
Delicious treat. $8.00 a piece. Always packed; always a line outside. The wait isnt as bad as it looks because there are two people frying, one cashier, and one doing the sugar. Is the price too much? Yes. BUT it's good to support local.

Fried dough coated in sugar. You really can't go wrong! On the sweeter side for me, next time I might ask for just one coating of sugar. It was a loooong wait when we went in the morning, not worth it if the line stretches out to the other side. Come back in the afternoon when a cruise ship or 2 have left or everyone is out on their excursions!

Not sure what possessed me to buy fried dough but I smelled it from blocks away. It's made fresh and sprinkled with sugar. It's highly addicting and delicious. 10/10 would recommend.
The Doughboy cost around $8ish each. They are soft, light and crispy on the outside. They are definitely a treat. I didn't know about this place 2 years ago coming here so I missed out on trying it. I heard about someone reviewing this place on social media and because I was in the area, I knew I had to try them. OMG, they are super tasty and good. Don't get intimidated by the lineup. The lineup goes fast. Staff are quick. There is one staff in charge of taking order, one making the dough, one frying and one seasoning the dough and giving it to the customer. The store is small inside but they sell pretty good gift items. If you have not tried them, you need to get them. read more

It's sad the only thing I remotely liked while in Alaska was this place. The cinnamon dough had tasted like an Elephant Ear from the Puyallup fair that's in Washington state. And the icy had tasted far more superior than what was given to me while visiting Hawaii some years back. The rest of Skagway was trash though. Had looked like a fake theme park. Sorry, but facts. read more
If you're stopped here through your cruise port, definitely a mistake try! We went around 9:30am and with no excursions planned today, we had a day of just exploring. How could we not get the fry bread. Similar to an elephant ear or a doughy churro? Or a cinnamon sugar doughnut? The employees greet you with a "Hi Friend!" and there was no line and it was super fast. It's in a little shop that sells syrups, Uru knives, popcorn and small knickknacks. Definitely worth the stop! read more

Crispy, fresh hot cinnamon sugar fried dough. Win win! Service was quick as they know why people are coming to the store. Before you finish with all the credit card prompts, your doughboy is always on a paper plate to be handed to you. The store looks clean and inviting on the cold rainy day that we visited the town. Walked out with some huckberry gummy bears and torn into this doughboy like he was my boyfriend. read more
Fresh bread, worth the long lines. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate from next door, and enjoy this sweet and flavorful treat while it's hot. I had 2 and I don't even have a sweet tooth. Service is prompt and fast. There's barely any space indoors so you'll likely have to eat while standing outdoors (like all the other tourists), but the mountain views are great! read more

A Must-Try Treat in Skagway We were intrigued by Klondike Doughboy from the moment we arrived in Skagway. This little storefront always had a crowd--people waiting outside, others happily munching on what looked like deep-fried heaven dusted in sugar and cinnamon. After walking by several times, we finally gave in. And we're glad we did. The Alaskan fry bread was everything it promised to be--crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and generously coated in that classic cinnamon-sugar mix. Simple? Yes. But absolutely satisfying. It felt like a cross between comfort food and something you'd find at a state fair, in the best possible way. What made the experience even more fun was standing out front, enjoying the warm doughboy while watching the ever-hopeful ravens waiting for a dropped bite. On our visit to Skagway, we wondered why there was a huge line out the door to this place. A place serving frybread? We're in! They crank out the frybread so swiftly that even with a line out the door, everything moves quickly and we were in and out within ten minutes. Doughboy ($8) - This is a huge piece of fried dough, easily larger than my face. It's an interesting decision to have a thicker diameter, probably 3/4 inch thick, and a much thinner interior. It's almost like pizza in construction. This makes it so that the crustier portions are soft and chewy while the inner area is crisped up to perfection. An uneven fry is expected, but I feel as a whole, the frybread might be a bit underfried. The crust area, in particular, is soft and chewy without any crispness and has an almost raw flour-like taste to it. At least the entire thing is dusted with cinnamon and sugar to make it a sweet treat! (4/5) This frybread has some weaknesses, but hey, even a weak frybread is a good frybread. There's a reason this place always has a line when the cruise ships are docked! read more

4 stars If you like churros, fry bread is like the cousin of churros. It's soft and pillowy and the perfect snack for a cold rainy day like today. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that serves fry bread ($8) and shaved ice ($6). The rest of the shop contains gifts/souvenirs to bring home. Service is quick. If your wallet isn't hurting from all the shopping around town, then come here! If it is hurting, come here anyway :) read more

Yes, please!! Stop by to get your fry bread in Skagway!!! The line was long so that should tell you how good it is! They got everybody through pretty fast and had a great system! Yes, it's like an elephant ear you'd get at the fair only it was much better!!!! Definitely worth it!!!! read more
