The Sittin' Sasquatch on Broadway in Skagway, Alaska isn't fancy or anything unique, but it's convenient for your casual American meals with a bar atmosphere and television turned on inside. Not decorative nor outstanding here. Our excursion bus driver shared the restaurant name, so we decided to check for ourselves. Not bad. Food portions were huge and customer service was excellent at lunchtime. It appears that they do get a lot more customers dining in during later times in afternoons. It was a breeze during opening hour. Of course there's better restaurant options in Skagway. We just wanted to try something simple and different. Yes, plain looking old school sandwiches. Only difference is you can eat reindeer sausage sandwich here and have a good sized salmon seafood chowder to share. Their delicious chowder tasted like those found in Nordic countries, including in Finland. It's a lot creamier and softer than most common chowder bowls. Must love Alaskan fresh salmon in this state. Smoked reindeer sausage sandwich was ok, comes with a side of choice, especially if you needed a good quick bite to warm up if staying in Skagway full day. Our server was very friendly and he seemed to be serving pretty much everyone else in the room. I only heard one employee in the kitchen, so this small spot should be appreciated even more. I also had a regular chicken Caesar wrap which turned out much larger in portions than expected. Fulfilling here. The Sittin' Sasquatch menu items aren't cheap in prices, plus it's never cheap for groceries or dining out in Alaska anyway. Treat yourself to something out of the ordinary when walking around. I think the seafood chowder stands out above all. Worth trying. Other customers were having lunch sandwiches too. Note, they have breakfast items here, so not bad at all. Decent spot with casual environment. If you're looking for something that sparks your dining experience in Alaska, this place might not meet your expectations. Overall, good stop. read more

This place felt like home. Mostly because I'm a hairy guy and the Sasquatch may be my distant relatives. We had breakfast after our bus tour. The food was good. I really enjoyed the conversation we had with our waitress after the meal. I'm sorry I've forgotten her name.. she told us about a short hike that was possibly doable with our toddler. We left the restaurant and walked across town to a short trail to smugglers cove where our son had a blast throwing rocks and getting wet. The atmosphere is great. Person who served us said they don't have anything except of canned beer to serve at the moment. Horrible service. The head on the beer was half the glass. Slammed it down and walked off. Pour beer in a glass under an angle to minimize a foam would help to leave a good impression. read more

Took a walk from the cruise ship just because I am a Bigfoot enthusiast. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy and I got the bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon. She loved hers, my sandwich was good but the ham was still cold to the touch. I personally like all the meats warm on my breakfast sandwich, but it wasn't the end of the world. The waiter was great and took good care of us. Great service! The place itself is a hole in the wall dive type joint. There is Sasquatch memorabilia on the walls and it is a cool historical building. Well if you're reading this you most likely just got off the cruise ship or are about to. Walk the extra block or two to this place, its absolutely without a doubt worth it. We were waited on by Red who turns out owns the place, that said the food is why we came. Okay it was early afternoon so we opted for breakfast anyway, biscuits and gravy were and i quote my wife "the best ive ever had anywhere" i dont think I disagree. The perfect amount of pepper, a glutinous amount of actual gravy and the perfect sausage portion mixed right in. Of course you need a liquid to wash it down and they have a local soda called the 49th state soda or something to that nature, we had both the root beer and and spruce tip which seems to be a local tree spoke about and in a lot of drinks around town. The table shares a Yeti Betty which was pbj french toast and a waffle that name escapes me but it was straight porn for foods. Red picked up on our accent Boston and insisted on us trying chowder which he was very proud of and ladies and gentlemen these 4 samplings for the whole table made each and everyone of us question the clam chowder back home. The base is a clam chowder but its the sock eye salmon that really brought this home. Now the bad news..... we will probably never be in this town again and this just breaks my fucking heart. I want a place like this that i can go to in my own neck of the woods. Red is a family man, 4 children of his own and someone i love supporting, do the same i promise you wont be sorry. This is the perfect place to stop for a quick bite and a warm coffee before facing the blustery Skagway streets. The staff are warm and the seatting provides a place to huddle up in for a bit to enjoy some truly tasty food! I was coming off of my Disney Cruise and was looking for food after getting some bread(went to the Klondike doughboy and it was amazing ) anyways my party and I walk in and getting seated and I order my turkey sandwich and told the server to make it without provalone and I see him write it down so I think everything's good but when the sandwich comes out 25 minutes later, it has provolone cheese so I asked the hostess an older lady with blonde hair "can you please take my sandwich back there's cheese on it and I'm lactose intolerant" she replies " no I can't, there's no cheese on the sandwich I saw the cook make it himself" so at that point I was fed up and went to the kitchen myself and asked the cook to make it again without provalone and he made it much quicker than before and it came out in 5 minutes. The hostess did not apologize to me when served the check and the the food was 4/10 at best sandwich and seafood chowder. Service needs improvement but food quality is fine given the circumstances of where they are located. read more

We stumbled on this place after our train ride and found it to be the perfect spot to grab a bite, hot beverage and plan the rest of our short time in Skagway. They have a full menu with varied options, we chose panini press sandwiches and a couple of hot cocoas. Ample seating (both high and low tops) service was excellent, bathrooms were clean. Ambience was pretty cool and low key, learned the building was built in 1898 and one of the few in town that had not been moved. The ceiling gave the appearance of the old tin type but if you look closely you notice its a drop ceiling complete with fire sprinklers (hello safety!) Our food came out rather quickly, tasted great and if we ever find ourselves back in Skagway, we now know where to eat. read more
