Just walking through the tunnel into the amphitheater was the vibe-iest bass trap a girl could dream of. This year there was a noticeable upgrade to the sound system and the Blackfest was filled with therapeutic vibes that could release dopamine in any depressed brain. Talk about a neural reset here, lovely! And who wouldn't love a setting filled with eucalyptus trees and the loveliest melanated crowd you can find in Silicon Valley. Hats off to the organizers of Blackfest for ALWAYS delivering such high quality performers. JID and SAMARA CYN at Stanford? My dreams really have come true. Its…read moresimilar to the Greek at Berkeley but much more flat, the good thing is the venue is smaller so you can get a better view from anywhere inside. The worst part about this is if you want to go to the bathroom or meet someone at the entrance when it starts getting crowded you are awkwardly stepping over people and constantly saying "excuse me". The shows go on unless the weather is "extreme". So if you pre buy tickets and it rains be prepared to go in rain gear. When we went it rained the day before but the grass was luckily dry. The sound system and lighting are well designed were it felt like we could clearly hear the music. There are drinks and food available but once the show starts you will have to awkwardly walk over people to get food and drinks. I came after work on a Thursday and the piece of pizza I had for dinner was HUGE and satisfying.

What a privilege to be at Avery Stadium at Stanford University…read more My son's team and about 15 others were invited to compete at Stanford's state-of-the-art stadium where all the staff were accommodating and the competition was run at an Olympic level. Photographers, a lane announcer who added excitement to each heat detailing who was out ahead, who had pushed off the wall and furiously come from behind whipping up the crowd who'd stand in anticipation of who'd touch the wall first- you don't get that at just any race! To be surrounded by plaques of world record breakers, NCAA champs was awing. Turnkey from leafy parking lot then a quick walk into the stadium where you were greeted by staff and lanyard hung around your neck if helping with timing as I was. Great time on a freezing day for this "Candy Cane Classic" meet!

Where else can you get fantastic seats for a low price to watch Duke, NC, Louisville and all the other storied ACC teams? Stanford MBB has an exciting team with great talent and always puts on a great show at home, and many upsets (and near upset) of top-25 teams. Unfortunately the University is still penny wise pound foolish when it comes to upgrading the fan experience. Long lines to enter the arena for big games, mediocre concessions (which still require ordering on outdated keypads or self-scanning) and perhaps a worse food selection than the pathetic 7/11 on Lytton street. It would not take much money or effort to upgrade the concessions but Stanford does not care. And the student section is empty for most games which is a pathetic commentary on the current student body (was packed in my day).

It's a lovely little arena, especially when my Irish ladies are beating a pretty good Cardinal…read moreteam. I expected it to be bigger, but it feels bigger than it is. Acoustically, it's very loud, which only increases the home-court advantage. The design is pretty wild. When you enter the outer doors from outside, you think you're stepping inside, but you're not. There are large exterior holes cut into the walls, with slanted roofs leading down *into* the building. There are huge gutters under those slanted roofs, so you wouldn't get wet if it were raining, but you're not technically "inside" until you enter the seating bowl itself, which has these special airtight doors for that very reason. (Normally, the vomitoria [tunnels] that lead into arenas and stadia are open on both ends, but in this case, they need doors on the outside to make the inside of the seating bowl itself truly inside.) This should be a four-star review, but absurdly rich Stanford had to be cheap and not install individual seats throughout the arena. Even arenas with sections of bleachers usually have individual seats on the sides of the court, but we were sitting almost at mid-court, and we had to deal with awful benches. I would have preferred flat bleachers, but Stanford installed those awful separated plastic seats familiar from its football stadium. (They're literally the exact same models as at Stanford Stadium.) They're an awful hybrid of bleachers and seats. Call them the worst of both worlds--enough seating room for only the smallest of butts, but instead of a flat bleacher that allows you to sit wherever you want, these have small metal or plastic separators, which means your tush hurts after the game unless you're small enough to fit right in the middle of the tiny seat. It's also needlessly far from its designated parking structure--the structure isn't actually that far from the arena, but there's no crosswalk in a logical place; you have to walk way past Maples before you're allowed to cross the street. And the traffic directors on game days are a joke. They just wave you along without regard for which of many different events you're attending. If I had done what they had told me, we would have parked almost a mile from Maples, and one of my guests had mobility issues.

Our girls have been playing competitive and both plays club, AYSO and in their school team. We are local and That is why, we support Stanford Women's Soccer Team. We enjoy coming to the arena to watch the team and having our girls learn from them by watching them play. Every once in a while after a game, the team would come Out and sign autographs, take pictures and meet the girls which is such an amazing experience for our girls. They look up to the team and look forward that one day they'll be a part of Stanford Cardinals. The Arena/Soccer stadium is well Maintain and clean. The staff are always friendly and the snacks stands are always fully stuck and prices to the game and the snack bar are reasonable. Will always be coming back and support Stanford!

If you're there on a weekend look out for the free pubic in-person tours on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30pm and 2:30pm. We took one and it was better than wandering around the exhibits ourselves. This is one of the world's most outstanding private assemblies of postwar American art, gifted by Bay Area collectors Harry W. "Hunk" and Mary Margaret "Moo" Anderson and their daughter Mary Patricia Anderson Pence, who looks more like Moo but acts like Hunk. The museum, which opened in 2014, houses 121 paintings and sculptures and is known for its focus on movements like Abstract Expressionism, Color Field Painting, and Pop Art. The collection is celebrated for featuring canonical works by some of the 20th century's most significant American artists. Key figures and their works include: Jackson Pollock: The monumental drip painting "Lucifer," considered by many to be the outstanding drip painting still in private hands before it was gifted to Stanford. Mark Rothko: The signature color-field work, "Pink and White over Red." Clyfford Still: A large, imposing piece called "1957-J No. 1 (PH-142)." Richard Diebenkorn: Works like "Ocean Park #60," which displays his progression into abstract forms using geometric shapes and a subdued color palette. Other Masters: The collection also includes works by Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Philip Guston, Robert Motherwell, and Helen Frankenthaler. The museum building itself is spacious, which means it feels mostly like space. The coolest thing was the meticulous library that felt too nice to even touch. Be sure to see the Cantor Arts Museum next door. Random Notes: One exhibit had a music video by Nick Cave on repeat, which was annoying and a little out of place, echoing throughout the museum. Oddly, it was not the Nick Cave you are thinking off (i.e. Bad Seeds). It was a different Nick Cave. Which is weird. It's like saying "Oh, yeah, no, that painting of the flower over there is actually Georgia O'Queef." 1. One of the collection's anchor pieces, a major painting by Clyfford Still, was acquired a jockey who had won the famous 1950s television quiz show, "The $64,000 Question," and then retired to open an art gallery in San Francisco. 2. Mark Tansey's painting "Yosemite Falls (Homage to Watkins)" (1993), depicts the famous waterfall, but instead of falling water, the cascade is made up of cameras and tripods. I looked into an art textbook to try to interpret it and apparently it means I am gay.
