As with many things, you get what you pay for. PRINTS Do you want cheap photo prints ready in an hour that you print from your phone but are of mediocre quality and might get cropped funny? Or do you want high-quality photos printed in about a day that will last for years? I chose to get my photos printed at NY Camera. You email them the photo and they let you know when it'll be ready. Because digital cameras take pictures at different ratios than frames, I had kind of a funky situation. I proposed a solution (e.g., print with white space on top). NY Camera did that. AND they also printed two other possible options, one of which was WAY better than what I proposed. I chose their option, and they only charged me for the one print. FRAMES Do you want a cheap frame that gets shipped to your house overnight but that you have to assemble yourself and look okay but not great? Or do you want a nice frame that works with your picture? I got my frames at NY Camera. Not only did I get the right size, but they also provided input on the best color to enhance the picture. AND THEN: The owner opened the frame box, checked that the picture would fit, trimmed it carefully until it would, obsessively cleaned the glass of the frame until there wasn't a speck of dust or fingerprint in sight, and then put it all together for me. CAMERAS Look, I love online reviews. I love tech blogs. But sometimes you need a real human. While picking up other stuff, I've heard the staff engage in depth with customers about the merits of one camera over another, used versus new, benefits, drawbacks, etc. They know their stuff. And not just their new stuff. My dad has a camera from 1950 that he loves. They lovingly provide the tune-ups it needs to stay in shape. I live out of town, but whenever I'm back and need something, I'll come back here.

This is a small mom-and-pop shop that has the best customer service with an amazing staff. I might be biased because I have been coming here for a bit, but they're truly the best. The inside has so much character, with Polaroids of friends, family, and customers lining the store, plus lenses, cameras, and film available to shop. They also do custom framing inside, or you can buy the frames they have up on the shelves. I dropped off my film and within two weeks I was getting a call that it was ready--it was super fast and all my pictures turned out great and not super expensive. I also love that you can ask them any questions regarding cameras, how to use them, or if you're just curious, and they are always ready to help out. 10/10 recommend supporting them instead of going to a chain

Friendly guy at the desk who helped me with my first roll of film I was developing. They have a first-time discount which is impressive. The entire studio is high tech and you can tell they are busy, which is great for business. The total for developing + scans (tif) was $27 before discount. That's definitely the most expensive studio I have been to but I am looking forward to the scans! There's also different film you can purchase and options on how or what you'd like to develop. They have great parking. It is on the first floor of the brick building all the way to the back.

Marty really knows what he's doing…read more I procured an assortment of Kylie Minogue memorabilia related to her latest album "DISCO" - it's one infectious pop song after another; now she's the Queen of the Socially Distanced Dance Floor - and wanted to make a special presentation of it for my friend for his birthday. Marty knew exactly what background to use, including the proper acid-free matting and fade-safe glass. I never conceived of a darker background until he suggested it, and it made the signed photo that much sharper in the presentation. I tried to manage this on my own and I just couldn't manage, and I never would have accomplished such a presentation, nor one built to last through time. I really appreciate Marty's attention to detail. Furthermore, the turnaround was only about four days, making it ready just in time for my friend's birthday. He truly loves the piece. I had the same presentation made twice - one for my friend, and one for myself as well. With my own frames provided, the total cost was roughly 250 for both. It was well worth every penny for a presentation this special and dexterously fashioned. Thank you Marty!

Instead he ignored my request; a renewed request for a response led to him sending me a very rude lecturing e-mail with a strange claim to have spoken with me on the phone. I had never spoken to him on the phone. After I posted a negative review, Mr. Wintermute sent me a personal e-mail message and wrote a response here on Yelp equating me with others who gave him bad reviews and implying as well that my review is fake! I asked for none of this. The man has no sense of decency. A real professional would have kindly informed me of any errors I made about the type of photo I was seeking help with, advised about how to proceed and perhaps recommended another service. I'd advise anyone who doesn't know where to start, NOT to start with Sebastian Wintermute.
