They came to my elderly inlaws house and took advantage of them by causing a mess and then charging them $350 to clean it up.

I have been using this company owned by Mike Luken , since before the blizzard . Mike is amazing …read more He's a brilliant , sweet , caring honest man . He listens to me when I tell him something is going on with our furnace and what I have noticed . He's been cleaning up a mess that the company I used for years created and charged me an arm and a leg for - including an intermittent gas leak coming from inside the furance because the parts were not tightened enough . I had the 1st. company come out and the guy said there was no gas leak ( but he didn't even use a gas sniffer to check it ) . But then he wants to add more duct to my duct work . At that point I was done with that company . I contacted Mike the day of the blizzard because the temperature totally dropped in our house . I thought he'd come out the next day . Turns out he came that day during the blizzard . Turns out the other company guy disconnected the 2nd, stage boost to the heat . Mike figured it out right away - fixed it and we had heat again . HE is the BEST .

If you have an old boiler Mike had better be your first call. We had a bunch of HVAC companies come…read moreout to look at our old boiler. Every one of them said it was at the end of its useful life then pushed us on replacing it. Some even went so far as to tell us multiple components were shot and would have to be replaced to get it to work again. In a last effort before dropping thousands we called Mike at American Integrity (based off his reviews) and it was the best decision we made! He arrived on time to look at it, and within an hour he had the system up and running ... and charged us FAR less than we were expecting. He didn't have to replace any part and we were SO grateful because that night it dropped into the single digits and our pipes could have easily froze. He even called the next day to see how it was working (who even does that any more?) and helped us fine tune the temperature! His customer service is incredible!! He is not a big company with a lots of overhead. It is just him so you know who you are dealing with; he is fair, honest and REALLY has the experience to help you. He is our goto now until we move or he decides to retire or do something else. THANKS Mike!

Well our HVAC saga continues but hopefully on a better path…read more This process as my reviews describe has been a challenge but I will give kudos when due. Arlinghaus has decided to change out the outdoor unit increasing size thus matching what was replaced. This is considerable expense to them but was the honorable thing to do. Hopefully this will be the final. Update to this review. In the end, Arlinghaus made a mistake sizing our replacement equipment up front but has gone a long way correcting that mistake in the end which is what really matters!

But the thermostats installed have never worked right. We've complained about them and had them out to check them and program them multiple times. Only one guy understands them so most of the techs made it worse. He got them to sorta work, but he revealed that they reset to defaults if the power goes out. They finally agreed to switch them out a week ago. Tech couldn't do it. Now there's a problem with the wiring. We've had no AC or fan for a week. We've called every single day and can only get their call service. They had to cut a hole in our ceiling to run duct work. They had a contractor repair it. The repair fell apart in months. Nobody EVER returned our calls. We finally had to pay our handyman to fix it. If they ever finish the job I'll let you know how their work is.

I had an appointment at 3:30 that I needed to go to. I went ahead and rescheduled for 11/8 8:00 to 2:00. After wasting my morning waiting around for them, I received a call at 1:30 that they needed to reschedule 2-6. I had plans to go out, so I cancelled the appointment. I'm very disappointed on how unreliable they are. I would never recommend or use their services in the future.

They said there was nothing wrong - including a fan one of their competitors was going out. About 2 weeks later when we first used the furnace, it did not work. When we called Hauser, they said the fan needed replaced. We asked why they just told us it was OK. They said they could not predict a fan going out - although apparently their competitors can. At this time we were a few days past our warranty, but Hauser agreed to replace under warranty (parts, not installation). They charged $1,792 for an installation that took 20 - 30 min, an effective labor rate of $3,600/hr. Numerous calls were ignore with the exception that a business person explained that this is not an hourly rate, just the price they charge for this installation. Promises to have a General Manager and a Manger call us never materialized. This charge is greedy and reprehensible, and the fact they want to call it an "installation fee" - independent of an hourly rate, is immoral: a grifter's flim-flam shell game. Why do they hide behind linguistic obfuscation. I will pay a reasonable, even premium hourly rate for a uniquely-trained, highly-qualified, well-paid technician who knows which screws and wires to work on, but no one can defend an annual labor rate of $7.5 M.

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.
