I've honestly been debating whether to write this because I've been happily gatekeeping Mesa Nails…read morefor the past year since moving back to OC... but they deserve the recognition. If you're tired of loud, chaotic nail salons that smell like acrylic the second you walk in, this is the complete opposite. Mesa Nails is a private studio, so appointments are quiet, relaxing, and genuinely feel like self-care instead of surviving a nail salon. They also don't do acrylics, so there are none of the overwhelming chemical smells. Asem is incredibly meticulous. Her shaping is perfect every single time, the cuticle work is probably the best I've ever had, and she pays attention to all the tiny details that most places rush through. No thick gel, uneven shaping, lumpy polish, or sloppy chop-shop work here. She removes only the dead cuticle carefully without damaging healthy skin, so I never leave with swollen, over-cut fingers pretending it's "normal." Everything is also exceptionally sanitary. All of the tools are sterilized, sealed, and opened in front of you, which I really appreciate. They also have a huge color selection, whether you're into classic neutrals or something more fun. Every photo I've attached is on my natural nails--no tips, forms, or extensions--which says a lot about the quality of her work. I've never had issues with lifting, chipping, or premature wear. They grow out beautifully and still look polished weeks later. It's one of those rare places where every appointment is consistently excellent. I almost regret sharing this because getting an appointment might become harder... but if you appreciate clean, natural-looking nails and someone who's genuinely detail-oriented, Mesa Nails is absolutely worth it.

Getting to the salon wasn't too difficult, some street parking wasn't too difficult. The salon had a cute and modern vibe to it! I was instantly seated by Tammy and she got to work. They had an iPad at each station, which really made my experience here relaxing. I had a hard gel set on, and Tammy did mention how they'd have to start clean and remove this set. I was charged for removal, which I wasn't the greatest fan of. I asked Tammy for a classic nude, white ombré with a bit of glitter on top, and she delivered! This is probably the best set of ombré nails I've ever had done!!! I've had many nail techs say how ombré nails look better on longer nails, but Tammy made things work with the nail length I was comfortable with! I was a bit skeptical of the longevity since it wasn't the hard gel I'm used to, but this set legit lasted me over FOUR WEEKS (with the exception of one nail that had gel-ex on because of some previous nail damage)! If I were in the area more often, I'd go back to Buttercup in a heartbeat!!!! They are on the pricier side, but you'll be paying for quality IMO.

My friend and I booked an appointment on Sunday, we were so excited to get our nails done for a special trip. When I got there, to my surprise it was a male. I quickly looked on the Instagram and saw that the lady who ran the Instagram was actually in Vegas... Definitely a RED FLAG! Anyways he tells me what I want will be around $72 but because I had gel on it would be an extra $10 dollars because its from a different store. Okay, at this point I was pretty annoyed, and was expecting top of the line service. As he was cutting my cuticles, he actually cut me. Yes, I paid $90 dollars for someone to mother effing cut me. When my friend arrived who speaks better chinese, we found out he had only had 6 months of experience. He also cut my friend too and she was bleeding profusely. In conclusion this place is pretty shady: (1) very expensive for subpar quality (2) classic bait and switch, my nails don't even look like the picture I asked for because the guy doing my nails had no idea what he was doing!
