Troy(oldest son) - this place is an excellent example of the phrase "it's what's on the inside that counts." Nothing flashy on the outside but the food and flavor combinations were like nothing I've ever tried, and I'm from a city of diversity, Los Angeles :) Ty(coolest son) - This food was spectacular. My favorite food is a philly cheese steak and I've already tried 3 different ones this weekend but this one was by far the best. It also tasted more natural and less greasy then the other ones. What an amazing place to eat! Everything was fresh and delicious. It's the first restaurant that I felt safe enough to eat inside due to social distancing. My husband and son both had breakfast and everything was perfectly cooked. I was lucky enough to have the daily special which was homemade pot roast sandwich on homemade bread and I opted for the hand cut fries with gravy instead of mashed potatoes. Don't tell my Grandma, but this was even better than she ever made! We are camping at Bald Eagle State Park and since it's so close, looking forward to eating here again before we leave! read more

While visiting Bald Eagle State Park, I stopped in at Kitchen Witch Cafe (formerly The Cafe) for my dinner break. This cafe is very casual which offers takeout service and full service dining in two dining areas (table seating in the front and back rooms). The kitchen/grill area is open and next to the takeout counter. The breakfast menu items include egg dishes, omelets, pancakes, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast sides (toast, home fries, meats, scrapple, grits). The lunch/dinner offerings include sandwiches, wraps, salads, soup of the day, comfort dishes (chicken pot pie, fish & chips, stuffed cabbage rolls, meatloaf, roasted vegetable), and fried appetizers (fresh cut fries, onion petals, chicken tenders, pickle fries). They also offer posted specials and a homemade bakery items too! The prices here seem reasonable, most entrees $4.50-$10.95. I decided to get takeout and enjoy my dinner back at the park. I ordered the Yuengling Battered Haddock Sandwich ($7.95) with fresh cut fries (add $1.25) and a slice of homemade Chocolate Layer Cake ($3) with peanut butter frosting. The food was ready to go in about 10 minutes. The haddock sandwich was very hot and consisted of 2 pieces of beer battered haddock topped with lettuce, tomato, & raw onion on a toasted hamburger bun, tartar sauce on the side. However, when I went to bite into the fish, hot oil squirted out onto my chin (ouch!), so I would use caution eating anything fried here. The batter on the fish had a firm golden texture and a salty taste. The fresh cut fries were lightly deep fried and seasoned with salt and dill, greasy, but very tasty. The chocolate layer cake was soft and very moist. The cake was yummy and very sweet, as well as the peanut butter frosting. I think I'll mostly likely return to Kitchen Witch Cafe for another meal and order something different when I'm in the area again visiting Bald Eagle State Park. read more

We tried three dishes: Chicken wrap, fish and chips, and the meatloaf set The haddock was a bit heavy for the summer, though definitely crispy. The fries were flavored with thyme, which gave it a nice aroma, but they were a bit soggy for my taste. The meatloaf was a tad soft.. Personally I would prefer a more sturdy texture. The chicken wrap was great! Freshly grilled chicken with veggie in a wrap. Perfect for the summer. Would def recommend to anyone who happens to pass by! Lovely place. read more

What a lucky find !!! Everything was so fresh and tasty. The Harvest Salad with blood orange vinaigrette was wonderful, the grits cooked perfectly, the haddock had great seasoning, and the fries were homemade and perfect. And the sticky bun... OMG. While we were there an Amish gentleman delivered ham steaks and scrapple - it doesn't get more local. Everyone was friendly and we can't wait to go back. I wish we lived closer !! read more

Excellent cheesesteak on a grilled/toasted roll, plenty of quality beef pieces, lots of cheese, diced fresh peppers, huge sandwich 14-15 inches long, big enough to share so that you can try a dessert. Good food prepared to order so it does take time so cool your heals. Plenty of parking to the side. Hours are limited so don't come for dinner. Will return. Worth every penny of it. read more

Loved this placed! Stopped here with the assumption it was a little coffee shop, which maybe offered muffins and scones. A pleasant surprise that we had so many hot breakfast and lunch options. Its only about a mile from the Bald Eagle State Park campground areas. The service was fast and efficient, coffee was hot and tasty, and the portion sizes were fabu! AMAZING! We live so close and never realized this cafe was here. We decided to stop and so glad we did because we were so impressed! I had probably the BEST breakfast I have ever had in my life, and trust me when I say my husband and I are avid brunchers. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My omelette had so many complimenting flavors! I typically don't care for home fries because people just don't get them right, but these home fries were PERFECT! I mean the toast, who eats their toast? Well, you will here because the bread was so delicious I even inquired about buying a loaf. My daughter's pancakes were even better than average and HUGE!!! My boyfriend and I stayed at Bald Eagle State Park and were looking for some breakfast and a good cup of coffee on the way home. We were SO happy to find this place! French vanilla coffee was amazing and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches are AMAZING too! I highly recommend a stop here for breakfast. Tried to go there the other day while visiting Howard, had to walk through a group of people smoking right in front of the entrance. Which was employees and friends. Sorry but that's disrespectful and gross to a nonsmoker. Stood inside for a good 5 minutes waiting for her to finish chatting and smoking to come inside. Not a hi or anything, just what do you want? I had what I think was called a harvest-sandwich. It was turkey, Brie, spinach, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. May sound a little strange, but it was really good. Had it on sourdough bread. My husband had breakfast. Ham (such a nice thick slice), eggs, toast and fried potatoes. Also said his was very good. I would recommend it to anyone that would like to eat something a little different, and good. They were very friendly and helpful. Sure beats those fast food places (which I do not go to), and the same old, same old places. Give it a try and decide for yourself. They have been there four years, and hope they continue. read more

My husband and I were recently staying a few days near Howard Pa . The Kitchen Witch was recommended to us. We are so glad that is was. We each had the chicken pot pie....which was absolutely delicious...better then what I myself could make. It was filled with chicken and veggies and the golden crust was made with flour, coconut oil and sour cream. We also sampled the restaurants meatballs ( better then my Italian mother in laws) and lemon aide with rose hip which was yummy. Everything was so delicious that we decided to return the next evening also for dinner. This time, my husband had the Icelandic Cod with French fries and I had the cabbage rolls and smashed potatoes. Again...both entrees were so delicious that we decided to eat our last night in the area dinner at the Kitchen Witch too. We again decided to have the chicken pot pie as it was so very good the first time. It did not disappoint. We finished the meal with luscious cranberry bread pudding which melted in our mouths. Alas....our visit to this area came to a close...but, we will definitely return to the Kitchen Witch the next time we are in the area. read more
