Honestly was a bit surprised by the taste of the food! I didn't have high expectations for a pocha style restaurant but the mentaiko pasta, Korean fried chicken wings and truffle fries were all super flavorful. The pasta was Al dente and the chicken wings and fries were crispy. The only thing that we weren't fond of was the rose pasta. The rose pasta tasted like a regular marinara sauce pasta, not creamy enough and tasted too tomatoey. The food tasted hot and fresh. Parking is valet and I believe it was $3. Came here impromptu for our anniversary this place was so good! And the service was so nice he even explained the history behind the Korean army soup we had which felt like a mixture between Korean and American soul food! Much better than a lot of Cajun seafood places too because they give you gloves on top of the little aprons makes cleaning up a lot easier! Kitchen Sooda is a great place to get Korean pork belly or octopus along with a side of fried chicken, both Korean style and typical dry fried. The chicken is moist and the octopus is well cooked and flavorful and comes on top a layer of fried rice that has some burnt ends if you leave it on the fire long enough. This place accepts reservations, which was cool since we were unsure whether it would be busy on a Friday night. Since they have outdoor seating, it felt relatively safe eating in person. The food was pretty good, but we had problems with our digestion (wasn't quite sure which dish((es?) caused it). The menu selection is very random, but it could be good for situations when people in the same group want to eat separate things. The quality and taste of the strange variety of food was not disappointing. My group and I really liked the mentaiko pasta out of everything we ordered and would totally recommend it if you don't know what to order. Their soy garlic chicken was also tasty but it is on the sweeter side, so maybe ordering it with fries or another savory dish would give your meal a better balance. We also tried their cheese buldak and the squid/pork belly dish. I would get everything again except the squid/pork belly just because it's a dish that has pretty basic flavors and is easily accessible to Korean households. Maybe it was this dish that caused our stomach problems... But, the food came out really fast, which was a big plus since we were very hungry. I love the variety at Kitchen Sooda! I've had some of the traditional Korean bar food, American bar food, pastas and seafood boil, and it's all really good! If you're craving something, they have it--except for dessert, which is fine because you can stop by next door to Caffe Concerto for a cake or something afterwards. I also like the vibes--there's outdoor seating, tv's, not overly loud music, decent service, great for large groups, and relatively good for kids. My favorite dishes are -Mentaiko pasta: a bit creamy, a bit salty, and a bit garlicky. I get this for my toddler and she'll eat it all including the fresh shrimp. I prefer this over the uni pasta. I also love this to dip the spicy chicken in the sauce instead of the cheese. -Spicy chicken with tater tots and cheese: if you're craving something that's got a kick, get x-hot!! The chicken is full of flavor without the chili pepper feel, and the spice tamed by the melty cheese. -Fried gizzard: I love anything with a puffy, seasoned batter. The gizzards are also really tender. -Seafood boil: just like Boiling Crab style and they give you gloves so you can jump between peeling seafood to eating pasta and gizzards. Had a strong cravings for oysters, so decided to check out this place for Happy Hour since EMC had a long wait. LOCATION: In K-Town on Serrano between Wilshire and 6th Street. PARKING: It shares a small lot with Concerto Restaurant that does Valet Parking only. It's $3 cash during the evening. If you come during prime hours, definitely expect a wait for your car. AMBIANCE - It's a restaurant with typical Korean bar food. You have the choice of sitting indoors or outdoors. Everything is wooden. We chose outdoors because you get to really soak in K-Town atmosphere (the lights, the chatter, the overall vibes). FOOD: We ordered quite a lot for two little asian girls: - Oysters (3/5): Dozen at $1.50/each. Quality was not as good as and size was a little smaller than EMC's, but it satisfied my craving. - Wasabi Octopus (3/5): Average. Subtle wasabi taste. - Original Wings (4/5): They came out fresh. Hot and Juicy. - Truffle Fries (2/5): These might have been a little too overcooked for me. They were super hard. - Mantaiko Pasta (5/5): This just absolutely stole the show for me. The pasta was cooked to perfection in this delicious creamy buttery garlic sauce. The roe wasn't overpowering either. The only sad part is that I wish I had more. I would definitely come back just for this dish!! - Peach Soju (5/5): We ordered two of these. This became my new favorite flavor. You can't go wrong with flavored soju! PRICE: A little pricier than the other Korean restaurants/bars. SERVICE: Waiters were super friendly and attentive. Water cups were always filled and plates were taken away immediately after we finished them. We never had to chase anyone done for anything. PRO-TIP: BEWARE!! Because of the miscommunication, everything we ordered besides the oysters was charged regular price instead of Happy Hour price.... Apparently in order to get Happy Hour price for bar food you have to order the COMBO Deal (that comes with selected items only). However, there are many mosquitoes and the restaurant don't do anything about the mosquitoes. I was bitten by mosquitoes and was unhappy on the way home. I went on a Sunday evening for a late dinner with two friends. They took our orders very quickly (menu was a bit overwhelming- everything sounded bomb). Out of all the nights.... TONIGHT had to be the night they run out of uni pasta. I was so looking forward to a huge plate of uni pasta. However the mentaiko with rod eggs and shrimp was pretty good. Fire chicken!! aka bool dak! It's the dish that's all over their Yelp page, and i just had to try it. Came here late on a Saturday night , we were seated right away on the patio. The three of us ordered the fire chicken and the honey soy garlic fried chicken. Food came out quickly and portions are fair (we had leftovers, yay!) but prices are a bit high. The fire chicken is fiyahhh! Spicy and the cheese is actually pretty delicious with it! We sat inside, but there's outdoor seating in the patio with heat lamps. Bool Dak (Fire Chicken) - a must get! We got mild, but it wasn't spicy at all so order it medium spiciness and up if you want it hot. The chicken was good and it was even better with the melted cheese and hash brown mixed together. Keep an eye on the fire and food, or else you'll end up burning the layer of cheese like we did...oops! Mentaiko Pasta - Nice and creamy. Portions were smaller than I expected. Sweet and Sour Spicy Chicken - Got the half portion and it was a good amount. Personally, I didn't really care much for the sweet and sour sauce here. Creamy, salty, and yet not overwhelming in flavor, the mentaiko pasta was delicious. Would get again. Seating area was also very cute and well done with plenty of space between tables and mostly outdoors. The staff were very mindful of covid and my only advice is bring a jacket on chilly nights out.
