A few weeks ago when a friend and I were exploring some shops in Chestnut Hill, we stopped in at Kitchen Kapers so I could look for a few things I needed in my kitchen. It's small store - so they don't have everything - but they do have a great selection of of kitchen tools and related products. I wasn't able to find measuring cups I liked (I currently have a beautiful metal set that I like but that is now missing two of the four cups but only found plastic versions that I didn't like enough to purchase), but I found a great paring knife to replace one I'd damaged a bit, a manual juicer, and a container of honeycomb. The service was great - a staff member helped me look at a few different paring knife options that they keep behind the counter. Overall, a nice stop, worth stopping by if you like to cook or host or if you're looking for a gift for someone who does! read more

I used their online ordering and had multiple problems from: short shipped order, to broken bowls, to re-order wrong and late and finally incompetent customer service including 3 phone calls and finally the manager, Amber, and her employee Anthony insulting and hanging up on me. I have never had such frustrating lack of common decency in my 60 years. I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau as well. Beware! Not worth the frustration. read more

Really cool store. Has almost anything you could ever want for your kitchen, but as you may have heard, they are quite overpriced. Went in for a brush to scrub potatoes with and ended up spending $5+. May not sound too expensive, but its just a stick with bristles to wipe dirt off of vegetables. Basically the whole store is a few dollars over what you would expect to pay other places. Really love the store and all the neat little kitchen gadgets I find every time I go in, just wish it was a little less expensive so I could actually make some purchases. read more

After a great lunch, my group walked around Chestnut Hill area and I, the kitchen gadget aficionado, had to walk into Kitchen Kapers to take a look. Although being busy, there were enough staff to help my husband buy his sister an early Christmas present. Prices were comparable to Amazon, but the staff was SO knowledgeable, having played with all the machines first hand. They also offered free Nespresso shots/coffee. I couldn't help but have so much fun with the machine! Almost made me want to buy one! Great gadgets to look at. Great staff. Takes card. read more

The layout is a mess, stuff is thrown on top of stuff, and the pricing is insane. Silpat in store 24.99, Amazon: 15.99. Doesn't price match. One cake pan in store 16.99, same cake pan on amazon: set of two for 16.99. If you're buying from here you must be able to throw away ten dollars because that's basically what you're doing when you shop here. It's a joke of a store. An overpriced mess. I'll go to William and Sonoma if I want to pay that much money for nice things, not top price for no name brands, they must think I'm stupid. Go shop anywhere else but here. If they are able to look me in the eye and tell me that they won't price match something I can get online for $10 cheaper and still expect me to give them any business what so ever, they must be pretty dumb. Definitely overpriced but will most likely have whatever kitchen gadget you are looking for. They also have a nice selection of kitchen linens (table cloths, aprons, etc.). I've been in the store many times and I've never encounter any staff like Susanne J. Everyone is always extremely personable and helpful. Like all Kitchen Kapers it's pretty cramped and cluttered but it makes for a fun shopping experience looking at all 200 things that are packed onto one display shelf. Just a note: don't enter Kitchen Kapers looking for anything that is not a weird gadget. For instance, I needed plastic cups for a party that I was hosting and ended up buying a $10 pack of "pick your nose" cups...awkward. I also needed a simple sugar and spoon bowl and they had nothing of the sort. Just a jam bowl which I would have bought if it hadn't had the word jam spread all over it...no pun intended :) However, if you need a paring knife shaped like a shark then boy are you in luck!! Overall, it's a pricey and not always practical store but it's a great place to find a neat gift or funky gadget! read more

I ran into the store this afternoon because they're one of the few local retailers of BuiltNY lunch bags. You can stuff more than just a sandwich into them and they're made out of wetsuit material! Anyway, the saleswoman was none-too-kind and really put me off. There was no cheery hello when I entered the store and when my credit card acted up in her machine, she seemed to take it as a personal offense. I was impressed with all the great kitchen gadgets, though. Hopefully, they have some other staff members that I might run into if I return to the store. It's more convenient than going to Williams-Sonoma which tends to only have specific specialty items. read more

The staff makes this store go from good to GREAT! Yes, the store is small and crowded, but that's part of its charm and makes it true to its Chestnut Hill location. The staff is consistent (low to no turnover), knowledgeable, helpful, passionate about the products, caring toward customers and fun-loving. It's a joy to shop here.
