I waited over a year after our kitchen remodel to post this review because I don't particularly like posting negative reviews but it's now become a sore spot every time I use my kitchen cabinets. First of all, Kitchen Makers was recommended by our general contractor Blues Brothers, located right next door. I would not recommend using Blues Brothers which I will post a review for separately. I believe the two businesses are partners, resulting in them turning to each other for business. Anyhow, my mistake to have trusted my GC. I have purchased from other cabinet manufacturers before and liked their work. I should have stuck to the places I have used before. The designer who worked with me was great. He did exactly what I needed them to do and was quick to respond. There was a mishap with my GC giving them wrong measurements and they ordered the wrong size cabinets but I blame the GC for that one. I ended up measuring it myself and checked it against the plans and discovered the issue. The quality of the cabinets from the outside seemed fine. It was the assembly and the lack of care during assembly that was the main issue. The doors did not have bumpers to stop them from opening too wide and it caused the doors to hit the other doors when open. It seems odd that it wasn't installed with this feature. In this past year, I have used other cabinet makers which made this feature a standard. A recent company that came to work on another job for us saw this and was shocked that Kitchen Makers did not include this. The assembly of the cabinets was subpar. They drilled so deeply that it damaged the wood and caused quite a bit of splintering. There were sharp pieces as well. I am attaching some examples because I don't have the time to take a picture of every hinge in the kitchen. The drawer glides are also drilled in so deeply that some have come unattached from the frame causing the drawer to droop on one end. I spoke to Kitchen Makers when they called to check in and I made them aware of the issues I found. It's been crickets since then. At this point, I am assuming there is nothing anyone can do but at least I can warn the next person that is thinking of purchasing these cabinets to be on the lookout for potential damages during assembly. Look elsewhere. There are a million cabinet makers. If you are in the East Bay, go to GS Fine Finishers. I hired them recently to make me custom cabinet doors and drawers plus the installation and their quality and workmanship were EXCEPTIONAL. Lesson learned! read more

We interviewed multiple contractors and they all had pretty identical design. When Shon viewed our small kitchen his suggestions were more in line with what we wanted. He got rid of the peninsula, thus opening up the work space, allowing room for more than one person to work comfortably at the same time. He also suggested adding a desk on one side - something I had asked the other contractors for but they all said it wouldn't work. I didn't mention a desk to Shon - he brought it up on his own. We wanted to remodel our kitchen and had our own contractor but needed some design help. We found Kitchen Makers on Yelp and decided to visit the showroom and talk with someone. We called and made an appointment to get going, mind you we didn't know what we wanted we just had a soon to be gutted kitchen with no clue of layout. After visiting and consulting we were thoroughly impressed with the knowledge they shared with us including different quality and design tips. We asked for a few different layout renders and we finally decided on version 7! We are picky and wanted to get this right the first time. Kitchen Makers were very easy to work with and never got frustrated with us. We not only needed cabinets, we needed countertops, a sink, hardware, and new flooring. Kitchen Makers always answered any questions we had and was extremely easy to work with. The prices were very fair and we could not be happier with our decision to order everything from them. All materials came in on schedule, zero complaints. We damaged a panel from a water leak that was 100% our fault. We called Kitchen Makers and they replaced the damaged panel at no cost. My experience with kitchen makers has been horrible. I've come to think of them as "kitchen/bath project breakers," rather than makers. Similar to other reviewers, we were referred by someone in the trades- a designer hired by our contractor. I can now see that KM's loyalty is to repeat referrals from trades (maybe there is a kick back? I dunno) rather than providing customer service to the actual end customer wo lives with the kitchen or bath. Beware, of KM's 100% up front payment approach. I now understand that KM's would likely not get paid if payment were contingent on providing a complete product and customer service. We ordered vanities with a specified delivery date. They were several months late. They did not let us know of the delay in advance, and said they only told out designer (who did not tell us). We only found out about the delay when we called a few weeks ahead of the scheduled delivery date to arrange delivery. It delayed the whole project by months with our bathrooms torn up. Then, when the vanities were re-scheduled to be delivered now months late- they said their assembly people did not show up that day. Natilee did not seem to appreciate project schedule and how their actions were impacting a project. Then when they again rescheduled, the staff that showed up seemed frazzled and the large vanity for the master bath had no toe board, and a smaller vanity was incorrectly assembled leaving wood exposed, with no color coating. We went through more customer reps than I can count. There was Natalee, then Stephanie and now someone else. (Stephanie actually seemed good, but only lasted a few months). They finally sent someone to the house and installed a toe board, but there was a gap. They said the office did not tell them about the other vanity with exposed uncolored wood. They said they would send someone else. Crickets. I followed up w Stephanie, she was pleasant and agreed to help. No one came. I followed up and Stephanie was gone. No one returned numerous calls. People that answered the phone had no idea of previous calls, problems discussed, or agreements made. Then after all these delays and the need to reconfigure to accommodate these delays caused us to need to make some returns on unopened plumbing supplies that were agreed to be picked up by the people sent to do installation- after the installation was so much delayed- Shon had the audacity to question the timing of the returns. I've got stuff that has been sitting on my deck for months waiting for their installation guys to pick up. The staff at KM's seems frazzled, overworked, understaffed and afraid of the owner Shon, and not able to make decisions. This drives the need to go to the owner Shon. It seems the only part of the deal that Shon seems focused on is the part of the deal where he gets 100% payment up front. The follow up- or even recall of agreements made just is not there. Also, In terms of price, I checked some of the plumbing materials we bought- nice toilets, sinks etc. I found the exact same items and model # at about 45% less cost at my local plumbing supply company- Moran Plumbing Supply- and had better customer service. For the premium KM price, I do not see premium customer service. KM has some nice products in their showroom, but customer service is about as bad as it can get. Mike read more

After the long delays and issues with the cabinetry (and flooring), Natalie and Brian came out with the cabinets to ensure that the colors matched, and were assembled correctly. Original review: So far I am not impressed. Job: complete kitchen remodel, with ~18 feet of floor The craftmanship seems good, but its still being installed, so I don't really know. Shon and VJ are great. Natalie is prompt with getting information, if its available. We went to the show room in San Jose (a bit of a drive), and picked out cabinets, floor, counter, etc. The issues: 1) They sent us the wrong color. Not like everything was wrong and/or it just requires a trip to the warehouse. They sent ~14 correct, and two wrong. The two wrong are similar in color, but definitely not a match. Not only are they out of stock of this color, this color is discontinued. Two weeks later, we thought they had a fix (replacing one face, and downsizing from 36" to a 33"). Today, Lo and behold, somethings not right. 2) Somewhere something happened and we are short a few feet of flooring. Our hallway is missing ~3 feet of floor. Shon did the measuring, and I verified, I suspect the contractors were wasteful - not KM's fault. What is their fault is it takes a month for it to get delivered. read more

I cannot recommend this company, had a challenging experience with them. We had our kitchen remodeled starting in April 2022, and was directed to Kitchen Makers by our contractor. When we first started the project we were taken to the San Jose showroom and directed to a specific set of cabinetry. We found this frustrating because we wanted to look around at options and were looking for specific features. They were pretty inflexible about showing us anything else other than what they had decided for us in the first place. So many errors in ordering the cabinets and other items we picked out at the showroom. They sent us the wrong shelving, and then we had to pay extra to finish the shelving. Sent the wrong type and number of cabinet handles, which took months of back and forth communication to fix. We paid for the extra (wrong) handles. We had picked out a pull-out shelf they sold us on for pot and pans, they never ordered it and later said it wouldn't fit with the cabinets. Didn't order the sink, garbage disposal, and other items that we picked out during our showroom visit, but didn't find this out until later, which made it challenging for us. Our remodel was finished a few months ago and we are STILL waiting for pegs needed to hang up our last cabinet shelf. We've been sending regular messages about the pegs, they have stopped responding to us. They upsell on everything. Recommended items to be bought from their showroom or "partners" that were marked up hundreds of dollars more than what you would pay for the exact same item at a Home Depot, Lowes, or Amazon. The communication was horrible. It often took weeks for them to respond to questions or requests, or to provide us with invoices for items we needed. No support around trying to find items/cabinets that would work in the kitchen. Instead of saying, "we can try to find an alternative, or here are these other options," the answer was always just, "no, can't do that." That included the fact that the cabinets ordered were too big for the space we had. They told us a cabinet would not open fully, when we asked what could be done instead they would just say, "nothing.' Our contractor tried their best, but we have a cabinet that is already rubbed raw of finish because it doesn't fit correctly and rubs against another cabinet when opened. There is already a chip in the quartz countertops they provided us and several chips in our cabinets. It's only been a few months, and nothing more than daily use. That should NOT happen. Do not go with this company. We saved over a decade and paid over 60K for our remodel, KM was not a good experience for us, in both the customer service and the products they provided. read more

We were referred to Kitchen Makers by our GC. From the beginning, communication was very inefficient. The general manager, Natalee, expects the homeowner to understand and translate kitchen architectural drawings. Unfortunately, since they took so long to get us our approved drawings, that did not provide us enough time to move forward with finding another solution for our kitchen and bathroom cabinets and countertops. They require absolute 100% payment upfront, with zero consideration for any payment plan. They also have a bathroom showroom next door; I was in there for a while shopping. Once I saw how frustrating the cabinet order was, I immediately took our plumbing business to another showroom. They didn't understand, nor did they care that I took my business elsewhere. Every time I reached out to them, they always gave me the impression I was bothering them; of course, that is when they would finally respond. The minute they installed our kitchen island, I pointed out a damaged drawer and a missing slider for the trash; from that point, it still took them nearly three months to replace the damaged drawer and install the slider. When they did install the slider, they left all of the excess in our home; they removed none of the extra cabinet pieces. Visually, the cabinets look fantastic, but the quality is subpar. They didn't understand what the appliance guy needed when he said there was no support inside the cabinets. The appliance vendor had to show them that the appliances needed some base to sit inside the cabinets. I was at a loss for words when this took place. I was under the impression you installed kitchen cabinets; how else would you support the kitchen appliances? Do our cabinets and countertops look great? Yes, they do. Would I ever recommend Kitchen Makers to anyone? Not at all! read more

The worst offense of Kitchen Makers is their connection with Blues Brothers. Although Blues Brothers (owners are cousins) recommends KM, the Project Manager of BB and the GC quickly told me they had nothing to do with them when cabinet fronts did not arrive or shelves came in wrong length. To accommodate the short length of the open shelves I asked KM to order an additional cabinet. Delivery was unavailable so I picked up when ready. Hired my own installer as I was told by Blues Brothers 'this was out of my scope of services'. Only after workman arrived, set up their tools was it discovered KM had ordered the wrong length cabinet (surprising as they had ordered all the others). I paid the workmen for their time-repacked the cabinet and returned. When I inquired as to the cost of the longer cabinet I was told they thought the cost was the same. Hard to believe bigger was the same. KM decided the simplest solution was to cut down the cabinet. I returned to pick up. Rehired workers to install. The cabinet was visually rough and marred by the adjustment. They did finally concede that my new shorter cabinet was less expense and would credit me the difference. This would not have occurred without my persistence. Nice workers but woefully inefficient and non-communicative. Craftsmanship of installation finishes is not good. The installer was ok, it was the product he had to work with that was sub-par. Additionally I had to purchase additional shelving and hardware as cabinets only came with 2 shelves. I have to be honest and say that Working with Natalee was the best part of my kitchen remodel and the smoothest part with the least amount of stress. Contractor I used sent me to her. She was very knowledgeable and made a 3D design rendering of my kitchen that was very accurate to what it would look like finished. I wish the rest of my remodel went as well and as smoothly as picking out my Cabinets, Flooring and Counter Tops at Kitchen Makers. We are still not quite done yet. Natalee made it easy with all her samples at the showroom and her suggestions. The cabinets arrived faster than I thought they would and are all wood like I wanted and no MDF. I love my Cabinets, especially the spice rack pullout she suggested as a filler next to my stove. I am very short so putting them were I can reach them was a bonus!! Great quality products at this showroom. Was worth the drive from the San Lorenzo area to San Jose to see in person. We recently had a very unpleasant experience with Kitchen Makers. In addition to the amount of time it took to have our orders delivered completely (4 months), we don't feel that there was ever any proactive communication from the team - it was always us following up and asking for updates. We truly don't feel like they care about their customers, the inconveniences we experienced, or trying to make it right. We went to the show room and ordered cabinets for our kitchen & bathroom, a mirror, flooring, and faucets/drains & handles. We ordered on Sept 12, 2022 and were told everything would take 2-4 weeks. Original delivery date was 10/12. We were told the week prior to delivery that the cabinets were delayed by a week due to the manufacturer waiting on parts. New delivery date 10/20, however the cabinets arrived at the warehouse with scratches, so add another week delay. Cabinets were finally delivered on 10/27; however 2 cabinet pieces are completely missing (they were damaged and needed replacing a second time), and we're also missing the mirror, the touch up kits, the flooring, a toe kick, and 2 of the cabinets were also delivered in the wrong size. We contacted Kitchen Makers via email on 11/8 to ask for delivery updates on missing 4 pieces & 2 incorrectly sized cabinets. Finally on 11/14 (9 weeks after our order), we received the 2 missing pieces and the 2 correctly sized pieces, but the corner cabinet was delivered without the door because that was damaged (for a 3rd time). Plus we were still waiting on the mirror, touch up kits, and toe kick. On 11/16, we sent a request for updates on the 6 outstanding pieces, and finally got a call from the owner Shon. He says he's so sorry and didn't know about my experience and will make sure he stays close to this case and that everything will go smoothly. The next day 11/17, our mirror arrives. On 11/28, the toe kick & touch up kits are delivered, along with the corner door - but was damaged again! 4th time. The replacement corner door is scheduled for delivery on 12/14, but we learn on 12/13 that it arrived at the warehouse damaged (5th time). On Jan 4th 2023 we follow up to ask for an update = no response. We email again on Jan 9th and finally hear back that the estimated delivery for the corner cabinet door is 1/17. We received it 4 months after the original order. I asked to talk to the owner Shon 3 different times, and finally schedule a call on 1/18 at 2pm, and he never calls me. I'm told the next day that he was sick, and that he's on a plane and will call me when he lands, which he did not. It's obvious to us that this company is not interested in keeping customers happy or holding their manufacturer accountable for their inferior products. read more

I paid for my vanity to be custom made on January 17. Kitchen Makers confirmed my order will be complete in 4-6 weeks. They do not provide any update unless you, the customer follow up. My designer would call for an update and at first indicated that the vanity will be delivered on February 14, and then mentioned it wasn't ready yet. We follow up every week from then on and no update. They then said it will be delivered in March 3. March 3 comes along and nothing. Vanity hasn't been delivered. Both myself and my designer calls and they now said that production is backlogged due to COVID but they indicated that my order is their oldest order and is the top priority. I called March 7 and spoke to one of their agent to tell me they've been trying to get a hold of the developer but they haven't responded to their email back. She promises me that she should hear back next day and that she will personally call me with an update. Next day comes again and no calls or messages from Kitchen Makers. I tried calling again on March 9. I got a hold of someone and as soon as I said my name to follow up on my order, my call gets disconnected. I called a number of times after and the calls goes straight to voicemail. My bathroom is stuck from being finished without the vanity and my experience with KitchenMakers has been horrible. No update and no communication at all! I'm not sure if any other customer has experienced this same service but I don't think it's okay to leave your customer high and dry. it was time to redo our kitchen after almost 30 years. our contractor recommended K&B Makers for design and to procure materials. we worked with VJ and had a great experience. he knows his stuff, is patient and professional, showed us a lot of options, and gave us good advice on styles, materials and design details. we have a challenging space with windows and doors that limit wall space. VJ worked with us on every detail, laid out clear and easy to follow 3-D renderings, made several revisions as our we worked through our ideas, and was helpful every step of the way.
