This brasserie is highly rated across several apps, and I am not sure why. The service was…read moreexceptionally slow even by French standards and there were no explanations as to what the ingredients were for the sides on the menu. NOTE 1: My mother was born in Marseille and speaks French. She handled the conversation during this visit. Let me explain. When we arrived, there were only a handful of two top seated and the sun was beaming down, so one of the attendants winched the rooftop canopy to block the sun. We finally received a basket of bread, then some water, and then the menus. All the while, very large groups of diners were being seated. It became apparent quickly that the team at Madie surmised that we were not worthy of any of the basic services and all additional attention was provided to the large groups. I ordered the artichoke plate. My mother and my wife each ordered the Octopus salad. My artichoke plate arrived and it looked delicious except that it had a chuck of meat in it and meat broth. There was no information on the menu that stated that a vegetable plate had any meat in it. If it did, I would not have ordered it. The octopus salad according to my two diners was okay but they both remarked it needed a squish of lemon and a little more seasoning. All in all, it was a very poor experience, we will not return, and I cannot recommend Madie to any of my fellow travelers.

I saw La Nautique and hoped that they would have an opening for a wandering traveler. I ordered whatever was fresh, caught here in the waters of Marseille - I have never tasted a better whole fish than here. Grilled whole with zucchini and peppers making a delicious ratatouille. Two glasses of rosé, and a beautiful view as the sun set over the port. I never caught the waitresses name, but she was so accommodating and friendly, and made me feel at home while I was alone.

Awesome lobster risotto!…read more Don't get tricked by their outside seating on the side of the main street. When we got to the restaurant we were wondering where the people were but ended up trusting the reviews and walked in. The staff didn't speak much English but directed us to the back outdoor seating which was much cuter and nicer ambiance. We came here for lunch so didn't order too much, we just each ordered a main. My lobster risotto was a bit pricy but really really good! Highly recommend getting that. They're really generous and give you a lot of lobster. My boyfriend ordered the pork filet mignon with beans and chorizo. He really enjoyed that dish also. This is a pricier restaurant but worth it. :)

9/12/15: One of the most beautiful restaurants we had the pleasure of eating at in France! The…read moreentire eating area is outside in their very eclectic garden, surrounded by lots of greenery, flowers, and custom modern art made to blend into the very picturesque surroundings. The waiter was extremely nice and courteous with us, despite our not being able to speak a lick of French. The restaurant was busy, but he took his time explaining every single item to us in English. We really appreciated that. You might have noticed now that many of the popular and best restaurants in France require reservations, even if not that fancy. We in fact were turned away at many restaurants previous to this one, and just happened by, and were extremely grateful they were able to seat us. 1. Cafe (coffee) 2 EUR 2. San Pellegrino 5 EUR 3. Beignets de legumes 14 EUR: Not what we typically call "beignets" in America--I think in this case they are referring to the deep fried clumps of vegetables. Lots of different kinds of veggies too--I think you can think of this as French tempura. To be honest, I forgot all the different kinds they had in there, but feel free to check out my picture to get an idea--but there's tons of really pretty colorful leaves, onions, and flowers. And it tasted really great--surprisingly refreshing despite being fried. The perfect fried dish, and dazzling in presentation too! 10/10 4. Veau braise & polenta cremeuse 21 EUR: This is a large single piece of braised veal, arranged as a circle topping polenta, along with eggplant and zucchini on top. According to the waiter it was braised for a very long time, and certainly tasted like it. It was delicious, but perhaps could have been even more moist. 7.5/10. 5. Fine tranches de boeuf & condiments mediterraneen 17 EUR: This is The Most Epic Beef Tartare EVER. So, instead of the typical ultra thin slices of raw beef, theirs is cut relatively thick, maybe a bit less than 1cm thick. The edges are very slightly browned, but most of it is raw like how seared tuna is typically prepared. And there's a couple pieces of fried polenta on top, along with an heirloom tomato salad on the side. But why do I say "epic?"--cause of the amazing toppings on top of the meat! I tried to identify some of it but all I could really recognize are capers, olives, cheese, etc., but there's tons more going on! There's such an amazing array of ingredients used that it is quite a tartare masterpiece! 10/10 We LOVED this place. Definitely one of our culinary highlights here in France! 5/5 #french #Mediterranean #france

The price quotes is 55 euros per person, with a two person minimum. To be honest, it was incredibly disappointing and not at all delicious. I would not order it again by any means, but I'm glad I can say that I tried it. It tastes like a fish stew with hints of curry. We also ordered the seafood spaghetti where the noodles were cut into short strands. I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence here but I prefer my spaghetti to be longer. The taste was great, it was a tomato based pasta topped with two delicious prawns. We also ordered the grilled octopus salad with garlic olive oil which was tasty. Overall, this meal was too pricey for what we received in return, although the markup comes from its location on the port.
