When we did go back recently the store had a bit of a remodel. It was nice, but just did not have the same feel as before. Prices on items tended to be a bit more hefty and the selection seemed more, how can I say,... "tan?" We went on a Saturday, which used to be a very busy time for them. But this time the store only had a couple of shoppers. Just couldn't put my finger on it, but it just didn't seem as interesting or inviting. The staff seemed a bit standoffish as well. I suspect if we are back down that way, we may stop by. Just don't think this will be a planned destination any longer.

I have always thought of them as higher end so I walked in mainly knowing I was mainly going to browse and get inspiration. Well high end really is high end....I'm used to seeing sofas for about $1 grand. Here....they were about $2-4 grand....I didn't really like any of the styles I saw here...therefore no pictures. The associates were all extremely friendly though, and they all seemed to be passionate about their jobs. I was able to browse without being too bothered, which I liked. If you're looking for furniture and aren't on a tight budget, you should check them out!

I am not an easy client and like most married couples, my wife and I don't always agree. This makes working with us no walk in the park. I have ALWAYS felt heard, I have always been treated with professionalism, I have always felt whether I have purchased or not, wanting to come back and shop again. Selection: You can't talk about selection without also talking about quality of merchandise. There are only a few furniture retailers in Birmingham that are worth shopping at if what you want is excellent quality. Scandinavian Design has that quality. Don't get me wrong, if you have a lower budget, they have excellent selection also. But if what you want is something that will last and look great for decades, you are in the right place. Like most great furniture stores, some items can be purchased off the floor and others have to be ordered. Either way, you always get what you want. Value: Everyone looks at value differently. The best way to express why I think Scandinavian Design is a GREAT value is to explain what I just purchased. We were looking for a bedframe for a new high-end mattress we just purchased. We looked online like everyone else and none of what I say hit me. I could by cheap and get the job done. At this stage in my life, I want quality and service. So we went to Scandinavian Design. I walked the store as I always have "Lusting" for the Stressless Couch I always wanted, and my wife won't let me purchase. There in the back was a Zero Gravity, Massage, automated pedestal with ALL the bells and whistles. The mattress on it was a Tempa Petic which is also VERY High End. The sales associate hit the Massage Button on the wireless remote and the decision was made instantly. I asked for the price and to have my wife join me. The price was reasonable, part of that is Teresa and staff are always fair. I also believe we should always buy in the town we live it. That is were the personalized service is the best. When I went home, I did my normal research and found that unit had a better model. I called Teresa and asked if they sold the "Top-Of-The-Line" model in that brand. She said yes, I said can you sell me that and just charge me more. She said of course. Folks, if you read my Yelp and Google Reviews. I am not always as kind as I am here. I am ALWAYS honest and always consider being accurate as my strength. Teresa, her staff and her business is the "Best of the Best". Just my two cents.

I still have many of the items purchased over the 30+ years (some let go because of moving) so that speaks to the quality sold there. In addition to the stores's fabulous inventory, the customer gets one-on-one design services from its professional decorators at no extra cost. I've worked with Theresa over the years and she knows my style. She remembers what I have purchased and recommends things that work with what I already have. Another service they offer is their furniture delivery. They don't call it "white glove delivery" but that is what it is. The bottom line is everyone connected to the store really cares. I would describe this store as an affordable luxury contemporary store with unique items. It is a valuable resource and I don't know what I would do if it was not here.

That said, I had neither the time nor the inclination to spend the time to really give it a good shopping. Instead I found it overwhelming, so I just politely walked most of the aisles only looking at the things that really jumped out at me. Because it was a Saturday, there seemed to be a number of vendors there, so I'm sure there are some interesting stories to be told, and they could surely help if you're searching from something specific.

The prices were in line with some of the other large decor warehouses, but also cheaper than the more high end designer warehouses or stores. Same quality but maybe a little dusty. I will definitely be returning to this warehouse for my home decor needs. By the way, they have all your flooring needs, as well.
