Horrible experience. We were seated at 20:10 and ordered cocktails. Before the cocktails even arrived we were told that the kitchen was backed up and we needed to order food. So we ordered appetizer sushi rolls which somehow arrived before our cocktails. When I asked for an explanation, I was told that the table was booked and we needed to finish our meal quickly. This was before 20:30 and we had only been seated a few minutes and our cocktails had not even arrived and then she asked for our dinner order! I refused to order dinner, but my wife ordered her dinner, and shockingly, it arrived within 5 minutes. We were done before the Eiffel Tower even sparkled for the first time and the bill was over $250Euros for nothing more than a few cocktails and 2 sushi rolls and one appetizer. Avoid at all costs. It is not romantic, no matter the ambiance or view when you are treated like cattle. It was my 60th birthday and I never even got to tell the waitress. I really wasn't planning on finding exceptional sushi in Paris, but Kinugawa was phenomenal. We went three times during our 10 day stay. Everyone there is super nice, and we were able to be seated without a reservation every time. Highly recommend their shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and mango rolls. Terrible! Toro tartar - smelled and tasted sooo fishy....never had toro like that, just awful. Salmon main..lol..just salmon chunks...what? chunks? My sister ordered "vegetable roll"- only had cucumber in it, after pointing it out they tried to tell us there is "also avocado inside", had to break it open to show there was none. When the server came up to ask if we liked the food, we said "NO" - she replied : "i see"... Long story short - waste of time and money. Rip off and no care for customer satisfaction. Never again. Wow read the reviews and saw a few people going into this place so we thought it must be good. Boy was I wrong. The one teriyaki salmon dish that seemed to get good reviews was put down by the waiter and said you can get that anywhere and recommended another dish. All the negative reviews from patrons including chefs and other people who have simple expectations are so true. Poor service, no management, and unreasonable pricing. The manager came toward us and saw we were sitting there waiting with no attention and sat down next to us at another table and had a glass of wine. The server brought a bottle of water to the table and poured it in the glasses like we have had happen at other local restaurants and when we had finished the water, a food server came and took the bottle away and we never got more water. Then when we finally complained he brought us another bottle of water and charged us $9. This was never discussed and never agreed to. My wife took the waiters suggestion and ordered the sea bass which was very good. Unfortunately when he asked about a couple sides to go with it, we agreed thinking they were included but we ended up getting charged over $30 for a side of mushrooms and $8 for a small bowl of brown rice unexpectedly. When we complained to the waiter he basically just defended the policies and said he was sorry. Some large parties came in and our waiter never came back and checked on us. We felt completely ignored, overcharged, and neglected. This is not the way we expected to be treated when paying top dollar for a meal. We ate across the street at Alfred's the night before and what a difference. The general manager came to our table and helped explain things, they gave great waiter service and the food was excellent. What a contrast to this chain sushi restaurant that appeared to be good until we experienced it. Very disappointing. Very fresh seafood, and well done miso marinated black cod, but service was a tad slow to justify a five star rating and prices are NOT for the faint of heart - but I knew that coming in. However, it was 150 euros for lunch (no wine or sake) so that stops it from giving a 5 star rating. While we are able to accommodate this, not everyone can we recognize. read more

After checking few reviews we headed there we thought they were closed already. Hostess was fantastic , made us feel very welcome even though was a quite late . We sat at the sushi bar so we could see how clean and organized the chefs were working. We ordered a lit bit of everything and we had a blast eating such well made food , warm and tasty rice , sushi rolls were melting in our mouths, beef tataki was very well seasoned . Visiting Paris for a few days, we did not think we'd try a sushi spot. But our concierge at our hotel told us that this spot was very good. We took his word and went, and it was true. The food was phenomenal. We weren't able to try the omakase - which was the real reason we went - because the bar was packed. However, we were seated in the dim lit restaurant. Service was great - we were offered shishito peppers (the BEST appetizer) and edamame on the house (thanks to Le Roch hotel sending us). The shishito peppers were unlike anything we've eaten. The sauce was perfectly made. We got two sashimi and nigiri platters and a few rolls. The fish were fresh and melted in our mouth. Never settle for subpar sushi. Went here and a awful time. My stomach paid the price for days. The sushi was definitely not smelling properly and I brought up the concern the waiter became extremely rude. Very visit to Paris requires at minimum one night of dining on the wonderful dishes and sushi of Kinugawa. Make sure to have a reservation well in advance as it can get packed out with a quickness. I have not had a bad dish here and between my wife and I we've tried most of the offerings. If I had to make a complaint it would be the lack of unfiltered sake. Otherwise it's simply outstanding. On occasion it can be a bit louder than I'd prefer but that just means they are steady busy so I can count on them being open for business every time we return to Paris. read more

Quality Japanese restaurant in Paris. I'm usually skeptical of eating or rather trying sushi in foreign countries other than Japan simply because the quality of fish is nowhere near what it should be. My friend has come to this restaurant many times and suggested we come eat here so we did. The sashimi here is pretty good. The fish was fresh and everything is done well. We ordered the deep fried sole with a ponzu based dipping sauce which was really good. Apparently the executive chef had worked at Nobu Paris which is now closed and that is why a lot of their newer selections are influenced by what he made there. This restaurant is not quite Nobu but definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants that I have tried in Paris. read more

Wow..I didn't think I was going to find good sushi while in Paris. I came here with some friends who highly recommended we go here for dinner. Talk about a place with great service and food. I started off at the bar below and the helpful bartender let me try some of their Reds to find the right one for dinner and to my liking. Can't go wrong with a little wine tasting before dinner. Went upstairs for dinner and before I knew it the place was packed. Every table in the restaurant was occupied and even with that the service was spot on. The staff is extremely friendly and spoke English which was helpful since my French isn't the best. Everything that came out was delicious and fresh and I never had to look around for the waiter/waitress. I knew this was the reason for it being so popular and packed. You honestly can't go wrong with this place but be sure to make a reservation because you can't just walk up hoping to get a table. Well done and delicious! read more

One of the best Japanese restaurants that I have ever been to. We had a wonderful lunch here with sushi and tartar which tasted quite fresh. The staff recommended dishes for us and they were spot on. This is high-end Japanese sushi place...with that said, I don't think food was that great. Maybe it's my commoner taste, but had better meal at kifune or shinano for much less price I paid. The great thing, however, is that they have large private room, so hosting a biz group dinner was perfect. Also they had waiter who spole Japanese, English and French (and I think he spoke Spanish...don't quote me), so I didn't have to spend most of meal time translating one language to another and end up at the UN security council. ill start by saying that this place beats nobu hands down. and imo, less expensive. this place serves trendy japanese food similar to nobu. i've come across a number of restaurants that have tried to copy nobu's style, but then it always ends up with basically truffle oil and yuzu in everything. kinugawa hit the spot when my friends were a bit tired of heavy, rich french food. must tries: 1. spicy tuna maki with crispy rice 2. uni tempura 3. tai caparccio other highly recommended dishes: 1. gyoza 2. sukiyaki (if you are looking for hot food) caution: definitely need a reservation. also, their lines open at 630 SHARP. might need to try calling multiple times. restaurant opens its doors 730 SHARP. get there earlier, and the door will be locked. read more

This restaurant was recommended by the concierge at Park Hyatt Paris and it was within walking distance from us. We opted for a tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious. Our favorite item, by far, was the miso cod. It reminds me of Nobu's miso cod, so tender it melts in your mouth. Service was good, but the food was fantastic. read more

So the food was good. We ordered from the California sushi side of the menu. Being from the US and craving sushi and not really wanting to go outside the box for this particular meal. We ordered tuna (average) and the tempora shrimp ( really good). There was a roll for 28 dollars that sounded delicious but I couldn't justify paying that much for one roll. We also ordered edemame (average) and gyoza (very good) So prices other than that roll are about what you would pay at a good sushi place in the US. The staff was attentive and propmt, a little arrogant ( but that's the French). Intimate dining, low lighting atmosphere. Do not think I would go back. Hence the 3 stars. read more

Good (not great) food for what you are paying. RUDE service. We were told the sushi was great but pricey. Well, the food was actually about 4 out of 5. But the service was on the RUDE side. They seated us near the serving station even though the restaurant was mostly empty. The food came out so fast one dish after another. It was as if they were forcing us to hurry up and eat and GET OUT. For the price, I expected more attention and kindness. I don't know the waiter's name...he seems to know some of the regular customers. He seemed to be very nice to them but not to us who were obviously Asian Americans from the US. Fantastic Japanese lunch in Paris. Typically not the kitchen I think of when going to this city but this was superb. Service was great and all the dishes were fantastic. The only thing I did not try was actual sashimi or sushi but you won't go wrong with the tuna crepe, several of the beef dishes, the miso black cod. All were well prepares. The ambiance was nice, especially for if you want a romantic dinner place. It's essentially what you are paying for because the food is fine, but nothing extraordinary and way too overpriced. We ordered sushi, a curry dish, and a steak with Japanese dressing, which all would be a passable "good" at cheaper restaurants but for here was not worth its price for the amount of food we received. Also, something more trivial but is worth noting is that the curry sauce on my dish was a more pale beige color of Thai curry than the rich brown color that I associate with Japanese curry, the food was still fine but it knocked down a few authenticity points for me. It also didn't help that our waiter had been standoffish. The restaurant is probably pricey because of its location in a touristy area rather than the actual quality of food. If you want good, authentic, and much cheaper Japanese food, go to Rue Saint-Anne instead. read more
