Equipment is included for kids 8 and under (size 4 and under). Steal! At that price point, this is the perfect snow day with a group of kids. For anyone outside of that range, rentals are $59 flat, whether you stay two hours or all day. Go all day to maximize your rentals! That said, the kids play area was pretty underwhelming for my kids (ages 10-12). The slopes were short, not all lanes were open, and there was only one black magic carpet running. That meant tubers, snowboarders, and skiers were all sharing it, which slowed things down quite a bit. Getting around wasn't the easiest either. There's only one entrance and exit and into the resort, so you're walking everything in while the kids carry their gear. Not terrible, but definitely inconvenient. We were told there was a tram running every 5 minutes, but it wasn't operating that day. My guess is they scale back operations on discounted days (fewer lanes open, no tram, only one black magic carpet). Parking was easy for the only entrance, which I appreciated, but it would be so much better if there was direct access to the kids area from the lot. Service was subpar. Staff weren't rude, but definitely not warm or helpful. No one showed the kids how to put on their boots or gear, and we weren't told helmets were required until my kids were already at the top of the slope, so I had to go all the way back to rentals. Also worth noting: kids 8 and under are restricted to the kids area only (no lifts or bigger slopes), which makes sense, but that wasn't clearly communicated upfront. Overall, the kids still had fun, and for $35, it's worth it. But I would only come back on a discounted day. I wouldn't pay full price for the experience as it currently is.

On top of that once we finally got to the top, and sat down on the tube and started sliding, we got stuck all through out the slope all the way down pushing with our hands, and the kids couldn't even reach with their hand to push themselves down. What a disappointment!!!! Sooo expensive, besides our day was ruined, the kids were so sad and down because of it. I went to the reception to request our refund because we had to leave to try to find another place to go have fun if possible, they said they couldn't do the refund there but to email costumer service. So I did. As soon as we got to the car. The next day they answered and said since the adults area was not optimal they would refund me those tickets even though it was against policy, but the kids they wouldn't as their area was working fine. We didn't even use the kids area, we went to the adults area, all of us!! Besides, we're we supposed to let a couple kids have fun and not the others ?? Also, shouldn't you warn people about it before they purchase the tickets ???? Is this part of their scam ? And the material broken and not operational? A hazard even!!! What a inconsiderate thing to do from their part. Well, I said I wanted the full amount back and explained the situation over and over again, and a couple days later the refund for the adults tickets that she had refunded us, disappeared!!!!! OMG !!! Honestly people, DON'T waste your money here.

We went on a weekday morning and there were probably about 25-30 cars in the parking lot.  The resort is so huge that we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.  We only saw 1 other person on all the trails we took.  We have never gone snow shoeing before, but the staff was really nice and walked us through everything.  They have nicely marked trails and we did a 3 mile loop and had a wonderful time.  The scenery was beautiful and it was just so peaceful and nice.  I think most people go to this place to go cross country skiing, but the snow shoeing was fun and a good workout!

We also rented a pulk (for towing our 16-month-old behind us), but there is a limited supply of these and we did have to wait an hour or two for one to become available. We did find there was a wide range of difficulty levels just within the beginner/green trails. Some were truly flat, others had a decent amount of elevation and difficult sections. For the more advanced skiiers, the warming huts further out on the trails sounded nice! Despite covering a lot of acreage, it's a small enough place that we did run into our more advanced friends at lunch back at the lodge without even coordinating.

We stayed in a studio which had a full kitchen (including a microwave, electric kettle, dishwasher, and stove), a fireplace, and a pullout couch which slept an additional two people. The wifi comes with the room and was fast enough for me to be able to WFH. The bathroom has a tub and there were plenty of towels. Parking is also included and is in a garage. The check-in process was easy (starts at 4pm) and the front desk was very friendly. When we checked out, the front desk was closed (it was before 9am) but we were able to leave the gratuity envelope at the desk along with the key cards. They do recycle the cards and there's a receptacle indicating such. There is a small "gym" with a treadmill and stationary bike (no weights). There are hot tubs available by reservation. Overall, the location is good as it's right next to Olympic Village and the slopes of Squaw Valley. The decor was wolf-themed as befits the name and it's a cozy, homey stay.

We did the beginner class, which came with rentals and an all-day lift ticket! such a great deal. I really liked that the lift ticket didn't limit which slopes I could access. When I called Mt. Rose, they told me their beginner class also includes an all-day lift ticket, but it only allows access to the beginner lifts (and there are only three). My husband is a very good skier and has been skiing since he was 6 years old. He took the class with me so I wouldn't be alone. If we had gone to Mt. Rose, he would have missed out on the more advanced slopes (which I wouldn't go on anyway since I know my limits). I'm glad we chose Boreal so he could still enjoy the higher-level runs while I stayed comfortable on beginner terrain. The service was also very fast. We got our boots and ski equipment within 15 minutes. At one point, I accidentally returned my equipment because I thought my husband was done for the day after coming back from a higher-level slope. But he actually wanted to go again with me on the beginner slopes! After I explained the situation, Boreal let me re-rent the equipment at no extra cost. I showed my armband that confirmed I was in the class that included rentals, and they were very understanding. Overall, Boreal is definitely my go-to ski place. We'll be back!

One side had a king bed, and the other had a pull-out couch with a table and chairs. Both rooms had their own bathrooms, which was actually a huge win. Ladies... you know how nice it is to have your own bathroom while traveling. He used one, I used the other. Zero sharing. The absolute best part? They are SO dog friendly. They provide bowls and dog beds, and they even give your pup treats. It made traveling with our dog feel easy and welcome. Location-wise, you really can't beat it. It's right across from the Village and the closest lift is the Tram, which is a huge plus when you're clunking around in ski boots. Being that close makes ski mornings (and afternoons) so much easier. We had a mini fridge in the room, and you can rent a microwave for $25 for the stay -- totally worth it for us. The front desk staff was amazing. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. They gave great recommendations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even offered road safety tips when we were heading out. The hotel also has a restaurant/bar on-site that's open Thursday through Monday. We were able to eat there one night and it was delicious. My only complaint? I wish it were open seven days a week! Another great perk for skiers: they'll hold your skis behind the front desk, which is such a convenient touch. We can't wait to come back. Perfect spot for a ski trip -- especially if you're bringing your dog along.

Still, he refused to apologize or suggest a solution other than talk to VRBO. Fernando was very rude, and unhelpful. Now I'm waiting to see if he cancels my reservation. I realized this an hour later, contacted the management company immediately and they would not issue a refund, but did move our reservation to the correct date, so that worked out. The location itself is great. It's right on the lake of Donner Pass Rd, which isn't nearly as busy as in town (this was a summer stay by the way). The room wasn't great though. The walls are *paper thin* We could literally hear every word of the conversation the couple in the next room were having. Whenever they took a shower it sounded like a plane taking off. Thankfully everyone respected the quiet hours. There was also no AC. On top of this, the ceiling fan was on the same light switch as a light over the sink, so I had to climb on a chair and unscrew the lightbulb so we could sleep with the fan on. This place was about $40-50 less per night compared to staying in the Best Western. Although the location was nice, I'll probably look elsewhere next time. Truckee in general has become a very expensive place to stay.
