SO DISAPPOINTED! Let me start off by saying I was a member here for several years. They were purchased by a new owner, raised their rates and I wasn't golfing enough to justify joining again. I have a special place in my heart for Kings Deer. Nate Vincent taught my kids how to play and they loved the summer camps/tournaments. Nate is a good man and I have so much respect for him. This review is NOT about Nate. So my wife and daughter said, plan your Father's Day, whatever you want. Of course golf was going to be involved. My daughter doesn't golf much anymore. 4 years of high school golf and now she's a professional and golf is a once a year thing. So, based on that, I made a Father's Day reservation for only 9 holes. I booked it online and prepaid. The amount of emails I received from KD prior to our round was ridiculous! All the emails were reminders about my tee time and all there rules. Not welcoming, just a rundown of their 9mil rules. Troon Tavern has served my family hundreds of meals over the years. I would say "above average" for golf course food. That was a direct reflection on Shawna running the food. FYI, she is now longer there. NO CARTS IN THE PARKING LOT, was a rule shoved down my throat in the 10 million emails I received from KD prior to my round. We pulled in 90 minutes before our tee time to get a great lunch at Troon before our round. I pulled up front like the email said, to drop our bag. I unloaded and told the guy standing behind the podium our tee time. He says,"you're really early". I told him we were going to grab a bite in Troon. Didn't offer to help unload, just watched my daughter and wife grab the bags as I unloaded them from the bed of my truck. WOW customer service at its finest. I asked him where I was supposed to put the bags and he rolled his eyes and pointed and said "with all the rest of them over here, I thought that's obvious". Not only did he not help now he's gonna be a smart ass. We make our way in to the tavern and place our order, I thought it was a simple order. When our food came out, the fries were still cold and soggy. The barbecue chicken wrap and more lettuce than chicken. It appears that the food has gone downhill since the last time I was there. I walked back out to the guy at the podium and told him our teatime was in 20 minutes, he told me I couldn't get a cart until my 10 minute call. I walked down with all of our golf bags to the driving range to hit. Since when does a golf course hold a golf cart hostage until 10 minutes prior to your tee time. We hit balls off of dirt. The driving range is rundown and there was hardly any grass in the roped off area that they had us hitting from. This driving range was probably the worst driving range. I've been on in the 40 years that I've been playing golf. They give us our 10 minute call, and call our last name three times to get our golf cart. Three times from the time we walked from the putting Green to where the carts were, which is less than 25 yards. The guy at the podium says we called you three times where have you been. This guy is nothing but a smart ass and I wasn't gonna "pick a fight" with this douche on Father's Day with my wife and daughter there. Now we get to the golf course. The tee boxes are littered with broken teas several divots, unfilled, on every tee box, the fairways had weeds everywhere and the greens were suffering from winter burn. The cart paths were in horrible shape. I'm sad that the golf course that my kids learned how to play the game on has now been run down so poorly. I would not recommend this golf course to anybody. The price you pay for what you get is the worst deal for any golf course I've ever played. I feel bad writing this review because Kings Deer has a special place in my heart. It is not worth the money to play here, and I really hate to say that. read more

Situated on the rolling plains of Colorado's urban corridor, King's Deer Golf Club is very enjoyable. Nice conditions and golf carts with interactive screens for music (if you're in to that sort of thing), but aren't found on all courses. Staff is nice. Absolutely recommended. read more

All the staff are friendly, as many have mentioned it can be breezy on a lot of the holes just given the location. The cart path on the first nine is a disaster. I know it is probably due to all of the rain as well, but they really need to fill these huge Potholes in. Unfortunately the back nine I preferred yet halfway through the rain came down and we had to leave but overall a nice morning on the course. read more

Had trouble with the online, 3rd party booking company moving my tee time for weather. Billy (The assistant GM) got involved and re-booked in less than 30 mins. They seem to care about the customer and usually have availability when other courses are booked solid. read more

Beautiful course!! Nice views throughout... also a good spot to go and just hit a bucket of balls.

Good experience, nice course and well maintained. If coming from Denver be sure to take back road due to Renaissance Festival traffic. Well worth the trip! read more

I mean. The place has so much potential they must be short groundscrew guys. Bunkers have more tall fescue in them than sand itself. 4/18 greens are good the rest are bumpy and dead. Fairways need plenty of help as well. Still enjoyed my round of golf it was just tough to see. read more

The pros, well-maintained fast greens. Good driving range facility. Cons, lack of maintained cart paths. Potholes everywhere rough on all equipment, obviously don't take care of it. Golf carts programmed at unreasonable places of limited use can't even go to the car to drop off clubs. People in front of us got stuck trying to get to the ball area that is reasonable to drive a cart and it shut down stranding them.Dropping off carts was unnecessarily confusing and congested. No system for turning in carts in a methodical way. The course is wide open, a few trees, lots of houses/mansions. Overall impression of the course panorama is Bleak , just rolling hills and grass . For $70 I just think it's overrated too many frustrating angles. There are plenty of other courses that offer much more for less. I doubt that I'll ever come back. read more

upfront, the course is in rough shape right now. greens are a disaster. They need more work, and honestly, would be good to know before you step out on the course. We still had a good time, the people were friendly and the drink cart girl was around numerous times. My other beef was that this course has very little drinking water on it. My foursome and I had purchased a round of golf at a charity auction for King's Deer Golf Club. One of the players arranged the time over a week in advance with the course and stated at that time that we had a certificate which he had to provide a code for. The course booked us an 8:30 AM Tee time and we were all set. We all showed up at the course around 7:30 on the day of play to warm up and were told by the player that booked the course that he had received an email that very morning of play stating that we could not use the certificate until 12:00. They would not make an exception even though they booked the tee time and there were no restrictions printed anywhere on the certificate. This was the second time we had a bad experience with this course. The first time, we ordered a "bucket of beers" on ice from the bar and they had opened every one of them. By the time we drank them, the last one had fell over in the melted bucket of ice and was no longer drinkable since it had been opened. We tried to get a replacement (1 single beer) and they flatly refused. The manager was very rude about it in his response and we never purchased another drink from them from that point on. Probably should have discontinued playing there at that point! Three of the players are military veterans and this shows so much disrespect toward them. We have concluded as a group to never play this course again and I hope others that have had issues with them respond in kind. Their management is horrible to deal with! we learned our lesson with King's Deer Golf Club. Everyone that enjoys the game of golf should avoid this place. read more

I golf here often. Ignore the older reviews as that was under a different management structure and yes it was rough. When not golfing a round I like to go there for the driving range as it's close to where I live. Course is in good condition with great views. Can be a bit breezy at times due to open layout, no trees and elevation. Fun and challenging course to play. Nathan is great for private lessons. My boy took lessons and summer golf camp with him this year and he had fun. No starter, no marshall and I don't recall any beverage cart service so plan accordingly. read more

AWFUL. Honestly, how can you possibly let the greens at a golf course go so overboard? The course wasn't in great shape as a whole, but the greens... my God. About the only good things I have to say about this place is that the staff was friendly and the cart girl was one of the cutest and nicest I've ever met on a golf course. It's a well designed course, but even Augusta National would be no fun to play if it was in terrible shape. It's no wonder why it's so quiet and easy to play a quick round. No one wants to putt on greens that are more filled with sand than any course in Saudi Arabia. read more

Awful course. Pitiful management. Had a group cut in on our golf league. They played 9 twice. Then cut in on us on two. Then played 9 again. Then cut in on our league. Then they hit our cart. We called the office twice to get a Marshall. They came out and "spoke" to them and let them continue to play. Apparently the kids worked at the course. I stopped in to ask why they let them continue to play. Nothing but excuses. That will be the last time I ever play there. I suggest you stay away as well. Plus the green are full of ball marks. Apparently they do not give a crap about guests. Again, save your time and play somewhere else because punk kids who work there are more important than guests. read more

Disappointing. We paid $154 for a twosome with cart on a Sunday. Course was in good shape, the good news pretty much ends there. Pace of play was awful. Geofencing on the cart GPS was not quite right. Bathrooms were nasty porta-potties. No water available anywhere on the course. Saw the beverage cart on the first hole, and never again. Ridiculous line at the bar. Cart paths are dusty gravel, don't get behind your playing partners! For the level of amenities provided, this course is very overpriced. read more

Don't play this golf course, the staff management has no interest in making customers happy and course play is extremely slow.

If you're planning on walking...don't this is meant to be played with a cart. There is at least 200 yards between holes, it will take longer then expected to play a round if you walk. read more

Spend Your Money Else Where.......You've Been Warned! Review of Kings Deer Golf Club Where do I start? Staff member quoted a price on a club and then would not honor it. Contacted the GM who assured me that he would call me back. It's been two months and no return call. One of my many friends that I have taken to KD bought a hat which he decided a few days later that he wanted another color. The hat was still in the original package, never worn and all he wanted was to exchange it. He was told no and that he would have to contact the GM. GOOD LUCK ! I've spent ALOT of money there and recently played in a scramble event. Once arrived I checked in and walked into the lounge and grabbed a cup and started pouring some water that was set up on the counter, when a young lady asked me if I was part of the morning event, I explained that I was not but was playing in the afternoon event which was soon to start. With a scowl on her face she told me; "that is not for you, its only for the morning event". Are you kidding me, a cup of water?? As you can see by these examples they just don't care about satisfying customers, especially a very loyal customer. They need a wake up call and ALOT of training. My thought is that it starts at the top. Another thought to ponder; there will be a time when you'll need my money and this is the first time I've ever posted a negative statement on line so ask yourself, How many others say nothing and never return? I've played Kings Deer Golf course a number of times over the past several years. I've driven from Denver to get to this track because I'm fond of link style courses. But I've played my last time there. The range uses mats instead of grass which is odd because they once allowed guests to hit off real turf. The greens are in horrible shape, dried out and rough as a cob with sand and gravel covering the surface. The rough is punitive, starting at the edge of the fairways and deep and gnarly. Even if you miss the short grass by 6", you're generally doomed to losing your ball. Why not take it down? It's bad enough to have to hit a shot from these areas, but why also need to suffer a lost ball. They started using a GPS cutoff when you're 10-15 feet from lateral hazards, so you have to back up the cart to get it to work again. Why? We asked the pro and his snippy answer was "because that's what we want to do". Great customer service -NOT! I don't know who owns this club now, but they can have it. Give me the cordial operators at Plum Creek, Red Hawk Ridge, or Bear Dance instead, who treat the guests as guests and not as an inconvenience. This is a model on how not to operate a golf course. My husband and son played this course yesterday. They both said the condition of the course was the worst they had EVER played...and they play winter golf! Dandelions were ubiquitous. The greens were dead and covered with dirt clods, the rough was greener and better than the fairways! I called and indicated we wanted our money back, and they said they were not in the practice of refunding money after golfers played the course. (My husband and son kept thinking it would improve!) The golf pro admitted the course was "having a tough time coming out of the Spring". Really? Other golf courses in the area are in beautiful shape! Go spend your money on another golf course...or just play in the wild! You'll be better off. read more

I play over 100 rounds of golf a year and usually play Kingsdeer about 10 times a season. This is a good links style course in the summer. Due to its more northern location and openness midseason golf is best here. It is always windy also due to its location. My favorite hole is the 10th par 5 that gives a risk/reward shot over a lake to the longer hitters. Worth the price for a pretty decent course. read more

Beautiful course, very challenging. Unfortunately, the staff are far from friendly and very unhelpful. The only course we have played in the state (and we've played many) that pops ALL your beers when you purchase them. We had no idea and ended up with 4 beers leaking over our stuff in the cart. Received nothing but attitude when we tried to ask about the practice and if they would replace the beers. Will never return to this course. read more

Played an evening round with my son. Despite an evening golf league and high school golf team practices, the pro shop staff was very friendly and accommodating. They squeezed us in off the back nine. The course was in great shape. Challenging with the rolling terrain and some tricky pin placements. I would highly recommend this course. Just finished a 9 hole round with my son. Course was truly in great shape. Not too crowded and we had a great time. We are both beginners but really enjoyed a beautiful morning on a beautiful course. A few areas was a bit wet but still not muddy. Greens were all in great shape. We did not use the restaurant or bar inside. This course is amateur hour, spend your money elsewhere. Probably only meant for the retirees in Monument and not golfers. Peak season and peak rates and the greens are sanded, everything else is in fair enough condition and the layout is nice enough and relatively forgiving. Expect a six hour round, no starter, no rangers, no beverages during the week, it's a free for all, the maintenance workers don't stop if you are near. Go somewhere more organized. read more

So the greens are a mess with winter kill boohoo... every course experiences this from time to time, beyond that we had a great time. The holes offer a really good challenge for any level of golfer. I only gave two stars because of the greens and they are working on them but 5 star for staff, cleanliness and cost (can't beat it). I do however agree with Robert R on more water would be a good thing especially with no cover on a hot day. I will be going back later in the season to see if things improve. So in a nut shell, if you can make it past the bumpy greens (in spots) you will have a great time. read more

I was a visiting the Colorado Springs area in November and was invited to play a round at King's Deer. I didn't know much about the history of the course at the time, but I thought it was a very nice course to play and was in great shape for the time of year I played. My HDCP is 16 and it was a challenging course. I would love to play the course again next time I'm in town. After reading about the history of the course, the new owners have apparently worked wonders to completely recover the course. I'm impressed and will be playing it again next time I'm in town - weather permitting. read more

I have played here three times this summer and really enjoy the course. It is a fairly difficult course for your average not-so-long hitter (me), with a lot of natural vegetation to navigate, so course management really helps. The greens and fairways are in excellent shape, with only a few not so nice tee boxes. The staff is friendly, although I have not seen a starter (beware the first hole layout!), marshall or cart during the week.The longest round was 3 1/2 hours during the week and starting after 12. The weather can be a challenge as the course is on the Palmer Divide, but then there are some great views. And the Thunderbirds flew over one afternoon! read more

I played this course recently and it was miserable. It was in terrible condition, with stagnant water from leaking irrigation systems everywhere, and the greens were rock solid, like putting on concrete. They were probably rolling close to a 16 or 17 rating which made the course impossible to play and impossible to enjoy. With the conditions the course was in I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere, at least until they are able to fix ... Everything read more
