My workplace has planned golf tournaments here the last two years. The staff is fantastic. They are helpful and deliver on every promise. (That was not the case at other courses over the years.) They put in the extra effort, like putting our gift bags on the carts before the tournament. The course is incredibly scenic. They are glad to have your business and will do what they can to make sure your event is a success. They've got an app so you can track the tournament's progress. It makes announcing winners much easier. Food in the club house is good. Breakfast burritos are good, and lunch is always a crowd pleaser. Recommended for a beautiful setting for your golf tournament. read more

Had a group of folks coming up from Texas that wanted to play the course and ensure a tee time. Charged $20 each person to do that. That seems a bit high for each person to get a tee time for someone coming in from out of town. I get that you are busy and don't want to not have folks out, but for it not to be applied to reservation either is pretty disappointing. There were 10 of us, that's $200 just to get a few days early. read more

Some of the first golf I played in Colorado was at Red Hawk and because of the amazing time I had it has held a special value to me.

I've played this course over the 19 years we've lived in Castle Rock. Some of the holes are very beautiful, with undulating fairways. The course is generally well maintained and you get to use every club in your bag. The steep hills challenge your club selection and the native grasses force some accurate shots. For a public course it is very nice. The reason for my 3 star rating is the slow pace of play - 5 hours is a fast round there. It's a combination of the hole design layout with the spacing of the par 3s, and what you get from a public daily fee course. A few years back, we joined a club in Perry Park. Very affordable, and while we live in Castle Rock, we can drive there, play 18, and drive home in less time than Red Hawk. Last Thursday I played 18 in 1:52. On weekends the slowest round is 4 hours, most play is under 4. As a working couple with children, fast play is important as we try and fit our hobby into the limited time with youth competitive soccer and basketball. Plus a family membership enables the kids to play for free and we enjoy our hobby as a family without the cost. I'm not sure what Red Hawk can do to improve the pace of play since they have marshals. It just is what it is and it's unfortunate because it is a nice course. The food at Red Hawk is decent and what you would expect from a public daily fee course. No complaints there. read more

I usually love playing this course. However, today has been totally lame. If the group that is first off is late, get em moving. Don't slow the pace from the start, especially when you have a tourney on the back. Not fair. When u can't manage your course right from the start, it creates an unreasonable delay for those who expect a quick pace of play from an early t time. Terrible. read more

Actually, I would give the course 3 1/2 stars, but there is no provision for 1/2 stars in the rating system. So, I will stretch it to a 4. This is another Jim Engh course and it has the usual Jim Engh signatures that I am not that fond of. Example: most par 3's are bowls with high sides that could be difficult to navigate if the golfer has problems with their legs or feet and impossible for some older golfers of those with disabilities. That being said, the course is in very good condition and very playable. The green fees are a bit high for the experience, about $65 to walk, and walking will make you appreciate a couch when you finally finish the round and find one. About the 4th hole I remarked that this must be the highest point on the course...wrong, oh, how wrong. The course made a steady and sometime dramatic climb that tested my ability to push a golf cart. However, the higher I climbed the better was the view. I can tell that years ago, the view of Castle Rock must have been quite spectacular. Now much of it is covered with houses, townhouses, business centers, shopping malls and other development. Even some of the outer reaches of the course have signs stating that future home development is planned. But back to the golf. The layout is interesting with a variety of holes, the course is fair and not difficult for most level of players. First time players should not have much of a problem figuring out where to hit their tee shot or where the green is located. Practice facilities (driving range and practice green are about normal but more courses should include range balls with green fees. You may want to take a cart as I have mentioned, walking is only for those prepared for a real hike at over 6000 ft. elevation. Weather can be a factor and I can attest to that. Clouds, thunder, rain and lightening made us dash to the clubhouse after hole 15 and remain there for almost an hour before going back out to finish. Clubhouse is about average, staff is friendly and helpful. All in all, an enjoyable course. If the rates were a bit less, I would consider to play there more, or again. I am concerned that the charm of the course will be diminished with more development directly around it. read more

Wow. This place is a muni? Good god, I'm tempted to move to Colorado then. Red Hawk Ridge was paid for, built, and is run and maintained by the town of Castle Rock. And it is a gem. The setting is stunning: Red Hawk is on the outskirts of town, nestled in to some Colorado Rockies foothills, overlooking the valley with I-25 running through it. The course is gorgeous, and was in great shape. The clubhouse offers great views of #18 & #10, and the staff in the restaurant were attentive and sensitive to my timing needs. The course is incredibly fun, with lots of elevation changes, and a wide variety of shots off of the tee. I'd love to play it again, knowing now how some of those blind, downhill shots really play. The only downside to the layout was the fact that three of the par 5s play straight uphill. It isn't until the big, downhill finishing par 5 that you finally get some variety in the par 5s. Red Hawk Ridge is a really great course, with only two drawbacks: 1)They are building houses right up against some of the holes, 2)pace of play. It took us over five hours to play 18, and that's just too damn long. We were pushing the group ahead of us from the get go, and they never picked up the pace. Other than that, this was the most fun I've had on a golf course yet. Tip from the locals: always take a club with you when hunting for a ball off of the fairway in case of rattlesnake. Amazingly beautiful area 10 stars servers but the WORST food EVER. Don't even think of ordering the fish and chips. Fish nuggets just like mc D's chicken nuggets. French fried frozen soggy horrible fries. Yes beautiful area and nice servers but that's all. Never never again. read more

This is a beautiful course. It's March so the course was not in top shape and Hole 7 was being aerated but that is to be expected this time of year. Every employee we came in to contact with was very helpful. This could be a very difficult course to navigate if you have any sort of disability or aren't in the best shape. With the 90* cart rule you spend lots of time walking rolling hills to your ball where the cart can't access. Overall a great place to play. read more

A very good golf course, nice views, fast greens, even in March. Be warned, there is so much wind and so much elevation change, yardages are out the window. Example, 14 is a 218 yard par 3. severely downhill, and with the wind. I judged it to be a 3 club difference, and hit 7. flew everything. I played a provi and hit WEDGE to the middle of the green. Example #2. #7 is a 600+ par 5, uphill and into that wind. I went driver, 3 wood, 3 wood, and was still 80 yards short of the green. read more

This is such a fine and friendly place. The staff from the head pro and down the line in every element is fun, courteous and kind. I will make a point to play here every time I come to visit family in Castle Rock! Oh yeah, the course is in solid shape, I got out of sand 100% of the time, the greens run true. No excuses here, it will always be up to you to get that score. The views are lovely as well. It's a fun place to golf! read more

Great course, great people working there and they're constantly improving. They added more paved cart paths and they really try to keep it going quickly there so 4 1/2 hours is the typical round. The Men's club there is very strong and management makes us feel very welcome, sorry we're full but you can try and join next year. Give it a try but get your tee time early, it will fill up every weekend. read more

Tough to find a place in better shape and more fun to play. Greens are really slow, other than that it's the most fun for the money around. I'd pick Red Hawk over just about anywhere else I've played in CO. read more

Red Hawk Ridge is a fantastic golf course for all levels of golfers. A municipal golf course that is taken care of like a private club. Value. Value. Value. This is a shorter course (6900 tips) and longer hitters will leave driver in the bag much of the round. However, many holes require precision and shot making. Only downfalls are cart paths are gravel/dirt for 80% of the course and are covered in potholes and many people playing the course fail to fix ball marks. read more

Could be a great course, but the cartpaths are often just bumpy dirt gravel instead of freshly paved. I paid a premium price to play when the course wasn't even ready...there were no actual tee markers on any tee boxes. It was difficult finding yardage signs. There were many parts of the grass that were removed, presumably to put in new sod. Some bunkers were just dirt as they apparently removed the sand. The greens were pretty slow. There are no water canister stations. There is nobody driving by on a cart selling drinks or food. Some greens had a previous hole covered up with plastic instead of grass - strange. My friend rented clubs - unfortunately the putter was not there - we called and they did drive it out to us. He paid $9 for a jack and coke but it was very low on jack. It was very difficult to reserve a tee time and when you call you go through endless hoops of recordings instead of someone just answering the phone. If the management can figure this stuff out - this could be a great course. read more

I really enjoyed this golf course. Every employee I came across was friendly and very helpful. The course itself was beautiful. It's in very good shape and there are some wonderful spots on this course to get a view of the Rockies or the city of Castle Rock. For the most part it's a fairly short course, but there are a couple holes that are plenty long and will give you everything you want out of a golf hole. The green fee is what keeps me from going to 5 stars. Some courses are worth $70 plus, but this one isn't. $40 or $50 in the summer and they might have something. read more

Pricey for a junior to get on in the summer on a weekday it took 3.5 hours to play 9 holes because a charity event was out in front of us. Hard to walk but its a nice facility. read more

Agree with the previous reviewer, the course is fun, although a little short...but the course is not worth what the Town of Castle Rock charges. It's impossible to get your kids to play here when the rounds are over $55. read more

We took a group of guys there for a bachelor party. All pretty good golfers. It was a ton of fun and has views of mountains. Course in great shape. The clubhouse has a big deck to enjoy food and brews at end of the day. Highly recommend. Course management was fantastic read more
