What a wonderful find! We were hoping to grab a bite to eat after taking the tour at Hook…read moreLighthouse and coming upon Templar's Inn was a wonderful addition to the day. There is a church yard and ruin across the street that caught my eye first. I wanted to stop to take photos. As Templar's Inn parking lot is just across the street it made a great stopping spot and while we were there, we thought 'why not?' and popped in for lunch. Turned out to be a very good idea. It was a late lunch time and still a good number of people were in the bar or restaurant and continued to come and go during our visit. Most were eating lunch, a few were sharing a pot of tea or enjoying a pint. We sat ourselves in the bar area after a pleasant staff member spotted us and invited us to sit where we like. He brought over menus and asked if we knew what we would like to drink. I ordered a pot of tea (my usual) and my SO ordered a pint (his usual). We were given plenty of time to view the menu. Our beves arrived and we were not rushed to make a decision on food, but left to leisurely make our decision. I love that about restaurants 'across the pond.' The menu has a nice variety of option with a preponderance of seafood items. Fish chowder, scampi, catch of the day, mussles along with sandwiches, burgers, chicken dishes, steak and pork. A full menu and the food here is very well prepared. I went with the catch of the day, Breaded Lemon Sole. Lightly breaded, this fish is flaky and moist. The side salad is loaded with a variety of veg and nicely dressed. The fries tasty. I wish I could come back here for another meal. The tea was the best I've had in Ireland and I love how big the pot is for one person. My SO ordered the Breaded Chicken breast burger which he very much enjoyed, along with his pint. I was too busy eating my delicious fish to notice his chicken; sorry. The bartender/waiter was friendly and kept an eye on us from the bar. There were a few other staff members who also checked in with us so we never felt ignored while also never feeling rushed. None of the staff attempted to start a conversation, but when we initiated, they were all very pleasant and happy for a chat and to find out more about us and answer our questions. The rest rooms are behind the bar and accessible from both the bar area and the dining room. They are modern and clean. Seating in the bar area is varied and comfortable. The dining room is bright and sunny with lots of windows. The parking lot is plenty big. Don't pass this place by! As a matter of fact, add it as a stop on your itinerary if you are in the area. Comfortable restaurant / pub, friendly attentive staff and good food.

A recommend stop if you're in the area, great fish and chips. The service is prompt and friendly…read morewith plenty of seating.

Afterwards we thought we might want a pint (hair of the dog!) and our designated driver wondered if there was such a thing as proper coffee in this part of the country, so we were left with pondering which of the pubs would stare at us less on entry. Frightened away from other pubs we were mollified by the lavazza sign outside Nevilles and went in to find and friendly atmosphere and a lovely blend of modern and traditional. After ordering pints, water, crisps and coffee, we had a look at the food menu. We weren't really hungry as we'd recently had a huge brunch, but the menu looked so good we tried a few things. I had a totally gorgeous rice pudding and one of our party had the garlic mushrooms - this only left us feeling even more sorry that we couldn't stay for a meal. Everything was lovely, especially the open fire and friendly service. We made a note to pop in for a proper meal when next in the area. Dusk and fog began to descend so we headed for home!

There were lots of tables in the sun and pretty flower boxes scattered about. No camera with me so unfortunately no photos this trip!! The menu is quite vast, offering the usual pub grub, grill (steaks, lamb, chicken, burgers), sandwiches, soup, chowder, garlic mushrooms and the like, but have a smaller than expected choice of fish dishes. They also have a vegetarian option (pasta based) which was on the daily specials sheet and so probably changes throughout the year, and a kids menu. Our party ordered a selection of beef burgers, cod and chips/mash, the blt, and the lamb along with some pints. They have a selection of Irish beer and O'haras on tap. The cod was well prepared, fresh and with tasty batter but a wee bit heavier than I personally like. I got mash and salad instead of chips and it was lovely. I did sample the chips (can never resist one or two!) and they were crisp and fresh too, tasted homemade, but I could be mistaken. Deserts too were winners with the Eton mess coming in first for me - anything that utilises the local strawberries of Wexford is a winner in my book! Wasn't sure what to expect, but lesson learnt; don't judge by appearances. Friendly and relaxed service (which hopefully remains when they are busier), great quality food, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary if you are vegetarian or vegan as there's not much on offer, or at least wasn't when we visited!
