This was going to be my first Irish meal of the trip so of course I wanted something that was more traditional Irish food! The group ordered: - beef stew x2 - Cottage Pie x2 - Irish Coffees x2 - Vegetable Soup of the Day I personally got the cottage pie and it was delicious! Large order of food I thought, with pie, fries, and a salad! My mom got the soup and didn't like it that much, she loved my cottage pie though and kept stealing bites of it. The soup was more a puree, and I personally was not a fan of it either. The others loved the stew and our tour guide was a fan of the cottage pie as well! Overall, I enjoyed my lunch here!

The tour company must have a deal with Fitzgerald's as he called when we were 20 mins out and they were ready for us. Greeted us with a tray full of Irish Whiskey and Baileys for everyone. The menu is all traditional Irish food and was really good. My wife got the vegetable soup & Bulmers cider, and I got bangers and mash along with a pint of Guinness. It was really good and the locals that hang out there were all very friendly and came over to talk with everyone from our group once we finished eating. I asked the one local how many people lived in this tiny village and he said, "Not sure how many in the town, but there are 27 people and 3 dogs on this street". It was so awesome and felt like going back 100 years in time.

We never tried anywhere else after than. We used to go into the Lounge, but we would hear great laughter in the bar. Being, Dubs, we asked one of the bar men, then, John, was the bar just for locals, we didn't want to intrude. John told us we were more than welcome to go in to the bar, so on that day Brian and I had our soup and toasted sandwiches and coffee in the Bar and with some of the locals watched "Last of the Summer Wine", and some. Whenever we went into Paddy Dunnes we only went into the Bar after that. Brian and I enjoyed going into Paddy Dunnes. It was not usual for us to go to a pub when we lived in Dublin. Sunday's after mass in the Dominican church, Paddy Dunnes's became for Brian and me a place to go, for an extension of the "Spirit". While still drinking coffee or a beer, the spirit of our hearts were lifted or we could just BE. No pun meant. We met genuine people, who welcomed each other and us and vice versa and we enjoyed each other's company and "genuine Irish Craic". We cared about each other, genuinly cared. Within a very short space of time of finding this 'Hub', there was a sudden serious illness and death of a woman, Mrs. Dunne, [we never had the privilage of meeting her]. We felt 'At Home' in Paddy Dunnes. It was never dull, the craic, the banter, winding each other up, the rows, god there were some mighty rows, difference of opinion, GAA, Athy, Castlemitchel, the ggs's ............We never came across so many men named John or Jo, but not young enough to have been called after JPII, but not old enough to have been called after John 23rd or John Kennedy. My Brian, my husband Brian, got cancer and died very suddenly in August 2012. Both Brians family and mine were around me. But we had another family, "The Paddy Dunne's Family". They were there at the church, they helped lift his coffin up the steps. Brian would have been chuffed. I was chuffed. Our families came back with me to Paddy Dunnes for Soup and sandwiches. Yeah did us proud. So for a Really Good Pint of Guinness or whatever you're having yourself!! Mega Craic, Extremely Good Staff and a huge mix and gatherum of all sort of people just GO to Paddy Dunnes no matter what the mood. F 'n' B.

There is a church yard and ruin across the street that caught my eye first. I wanted to stop to take photos. As Templar's Inn parking lot is just across the street it made a great stopping spot and while we were there, we thought 'why not?' and popped in for lunch. Turned out to be a very good idea. It was a late lunch time and still a good number of people were in the bar or restaurant and continued to come and go during our visit. Most were eating lunch, a few were sharing a pot of tea or enjoying a pint. We sat ourselves in the bar area after a pleasant staff member spotted us and invited us to sit where we like. He brought over menus and asked if we knew what we would like to drink. I ordered a pot of tea (my usual) and my SO ordered a pint (his usual). We were given plenty of time to view the menu. Our beves arrived and we were not rushed to make a decision on food, but left to leisurely make our decision. I love that about restaurants 'across the pond.' The menu has a nice variety of option with a preponderance of seafood items. Fish chowder, scampi, catch of the day, mussles along with sandwiches, burgers, chicken dishes, steak and pork. A full menu and the food here is very well prepared. I went with the catch of the day, Breaded Lemon Sole. Lightly breaded, this fish is flaky and moist. The side salad is loaded with a variety of veg and nicely dressed. The fries tasty. I wish I could come back here for another meal. The tea was the best I've had in Ireland and I love how big the pot is for one person. My SO ordered the Breaded Chicken breast burger which he very much enjoyed, along with his pint. I was too busy eating my delicious fish to notice his chicken; sorry. The bartender/waiter was friendly and kept an eye on us from the bar. There were a few other staff members who also checked in with us so we never felt ignored while also never feeling rushed. None of the staff attempted to start a conversation, but when we initiated, they were all very pleasant and happy for a chat and to find out more about us and answer our questions. The rest rooms are behind the bar and accessible from both the bar area and the dining room. They are modern and clean. Seating in the bar area is varied and comfortable. The dining room is bright and sunny with lots of windows. The parking lot is plenty big. Don't pass this place by! As a matter of fact, add it as a stop on your itinerary if you are in the area. Comfortable restaurant / pub, friendly attentive staff and good food.
