Run by Crown Carveries & very popular. Drinks are well priced too. But not a proper pub.

Went into the pub as "obviously not from around here" folks and were treated very well. The food…read morewas surprisingly good and the portions were generous. My son had the Pulled Pork Burger that came with Onion Rings as well as chips (French fries). He is a growing teenage boy with a big appetite and he came nowhere near finishing. He is also finicky about food, so it was surprising how quickly he tucked into it. I ordered one of their daily specials, the meatloaf, and was also very happy with the food. The meatloaf was wrapped in bacon and served over mashed potatoes and gravy. There was also a side of roasted vegetables that was cooked perfectly.

I have never experienced such a rude, self centered, poor excuse for a Manager. From the beginning…read moreof the the experiane he was miserable and didn't even great us, his first words to Our group of 11 was is there any kids in the group at which I replied as a joke no only me (48 years of age) and he geared at me me like I had told him off. He then said follow me no please was I volved in the statement at all. He then showed us our tables one was against one side of the room and the other was the other side of the room approximately 20feet away from each other, I totally understand about covid19 as I work for the NHS but that was rediculous. My Mum who is 75 and was celebrating her birthday asked this Manager (I say that very lightly) is it possible to get the tables closer together to which he replied NO and proceeded to walk away, she was very upset as she said this isn't what she wanted for her birthday. We all had to re-arange ourselves into who was going to sit where and I said in in a joking way (bye mum I am going to miss you) which we found out later that they didn't even hear in the other table. This manager PAUL HEPWORTH came up to me and in a very rude manner told me to be quiet, I said to him "you are a very rude man even from the start when we first entered the restaurant you where rude to us and I think it is disgusting". He stood over me as I was sitting at the table looking at the menu and said tight I am refusing service and snatched the menu out of my hands. I turned round to him and said "are you serious" he then walked over to the other table that had all the older family members and proceeded to take their menus away without any explication what's so ever and walked away. My wife had to go across to tell them what had happened. We then left the restaurant and sat outside trying to figure out what we where going to do, my mother was crying and very upset. We managed to call the Holly Blue Restaurant on Earsham Road and they opened their arms and restaurant to our party of 11 with no question and where shocked when we told them what had happened they said they had heard about this manager many a time. They made our day special and just how we wanted it they went above and beyond to make is special. I am saddened at the fact that the Horse & Groom allow for this manager to carry on the way he is and not be fired it is disgusting and shameful. I and my family will spread the word far and wide about how we where treated and to avoid this restaurant at all costs. I am sure Mitchell & Butler would be shocked to know how customers are being treated by a company associated with there name. Paul Hepworth it seems has forgotten who pays his wages, without customers he does not have a job shocking little man shouldn't be in hospitality or anywhere near it.

Went to the squirrel for Sunday lunch with the family and have had a fantastic experience…read more Being British Sunday's have always belonged to the ritual of a good hearty Sunday roast, and the squirrel has exactly that! Upon arriving you are greeted by the bar and to be honest that's exactly what you want we did book as this is a very popular destination for Sunday lunch time. We didn't wait long before we were seated, we sat in the back room that opens up into the garden via big double doors, the menu is very limited on a Sunday purely due to the popularity of their Sunday carvery but their is other options including vegetarian. The carvery has a wide selection including gammon, pork belly (with crackling), turkey, lamb, topside beef and sirloin of beef so take your pick and heap it on! The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff are friendly, warm and couldn't do enough to make sure your time spent there is as good as possible. The grounds that are to the back are pleasant and offer seating for eating or just as a beer Garden, along side that there is a really good slide for the kids to keep them busy. Now the reason I have only given 4* and not 5* is simply the parking issue! While there is parking there and is ample, on a Sunday it's just not big enough, most of the time the car park is full so your forced to park half on the road and half on the grass to the side of the road and its worth mentioning that the road is more of a country road and is not all that wide so if you have a nice car you don't feel that comfortable parking there! (But this doesn't reflect the restaurant, food or staff but has to be said) **** TOP TIP **** Make a reservation!!!!
