The pub is very cozy and "colorful", with plenty of memorabilia and traditional tools connected to local fishing spread throughout. There's also a small outside seating area where you can relax if the wind is not too strong on the day. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, plenty of local punters about. Good for a pub lunch after a visit to the harbour area or Hastings Contemporary or the Fishermen's Museum, all of which are very close by. Civil prices, too.

The channel coast is an expensive area in terms of restaurant and beer prices, so JDW offers the least expensive option to get a semi-decent meal (I always recommend the currys, now available at discounted prices every day) and cask ales. JDW do a lot for British real ales, no matter that the owner is a complete prick. Real ales are available for UKP 1.99. The décor is very familiar, and there's a patio to the front and a very small "beer garden" to the rear. It's not allowed to smoke in the patio area, but since I was vaping I carried on regardless and nobody cared. ;) Neither one of the most beautiful JDWs, nor one of the fleabags, pretty solid standard.
