This King Soopers is the worst in Colorado. It needs to be shut down. The lines are out of control.

Andre’s and Lana’s Market European Deli

Located just up the street from another great grocery (the also-reviewed Bulgarian bazaar known…read moresimply as European Market of Northglenn), Andre's and Lana's will tantalize you with its inventory of items from various parts of the former Soviet Union. As you set foot in the cheery, brightly-lit space, it will undoubtedly be hard to decide which aisle is most worthy of your attention. Are you in search of a nice big loaf of crusty bread (like the ones originating from the Lithuanian bakery AmbeRye)? Oops no, you're looking for spices instead? Maybe you need a little Muskatnyj Orekh (nutmeg), or Gvozdika (cloves) or a premixed blend to help you whip up some Lagman (Uzbek lamb soup), Lobio (Georgian bean stew) or even Morkovcha (spicy Korean-style shredded carrots). Ohhhhhhhhh, I misunderstood - all that cooking has worn you out, and you need to get mellow with a little herbal tea (perhaps a "Northern" or "Taiga" blend, with - respectively - a cute little bunny and owl on the box). You can find all of the above in the market, so don't worry about it by any means. And since you're here anyway, now's a good time to stock up on a few tins of Brētliņa (Latvian sprats) or even Ukha (fish chowder), don't you think? The possibilities are indeed formidable. But guess what? I have even more options for you to ponder. If you're in a meaty mood, see what you think of a link or two of Doktorskaya sausage, or (from the proprietor's homeland) a sizable chunk of Salo (Ukrainian pork fatback). Or, get grainy with packs of hearty Grechka (buckwheat), Polba (spelt), or Yachnevaya (barley), all right at your fingertips. And I naturally can't omit a mention of the condiment/accoutrement selection, including Adzhika (chili relish), Tkemali (tangy plum sauce), and multiple kinds of Med (honey). But I can understand you feeling just a little parched right now with all this food, so why not add some Dyushes (crisp pear soda) or tart Sok Klyukvennyj (cranberry juice) to that basket of yours? The prepared-food section features nostalgic favorites like Kholodets (shredded meat and veggies in aspic) or Selyodka Pod Shuboy (herring covered in an "overcoat" of layers of eggs, beets, and other tidbits). But I want to leave you with a few surprises, so I'll let you discover the rest yourself. Ura!

I don't eat a lot of meat. I went into Carneceria Santa Rosalia because it was close to work, and I…read moreneeded to get some meat for my dogs. I thought I might be able to get an inexpensive beef for them and not have to fight a line in the grocery store. The food and the meat in this well kept, immaculately clean carneceria was beautiful and FRESH! Every kind of meat (chicken, beef, pork) that I could imagine was displayed in an inviting array of sustenance just begging to be bought and nurture a meat eaters soul. It actually made me want to find a recipe for beef and partake. The ground beef the butcher offered me was quite obviously of superb quality and priced MORE than fairly. I didn't have the heart to feed it to my dogs, so I tried, in my very poor Spanish, to ask for a more humble "cut" of beef. I just didn't have the heart to tell the butcher it was for my dogs, and I was embarrassed when he replied to me that it was a good price. Yes. Yes, it most certainly was, but just a little too good for my dogs. I've mentioned this store to all of my co-workers and would recommend it highly to all. Great prices. Beautiful meat! Precios grandiosos. Hermosa carne!

You know why King Soopers is kicking your butt? For one thing, you make people stand in line…read moreforever. There's only one lane open with tons of people. My favorite thing about King Soopers is the self checkout. It's no wonder you're losing in your business. The produce is not as good. You do have good pastries that are a good value. But even when there's next to nobody in the store, I'm always waiting. Your company is going to go out of business. That's my prediction, and I bet your CEO probably gets paid too much. I want to add that the people working here have always been very friendly. The parking lot is always easy to reckon with because there are fewer customers here. It would be my wish that the CEO would make major changes. Were I CEO, I'd dive in to some changes on day one. I love the expediency of self checkout. You can either revolutionize the way you do things or Safeway will go the way of the dodo bird. Natural Grocers is GREAT at immediately opening new registers when many people are waiting. What in the world takes so long here? I upgraded my review to three stars because I thought two was too harsh. CEO doesn't deserve the golden parachute he will likely have when Safeway goes belly up. If you make the changes to stay competitive, you'll deserve it, but as things are now, you're losing big-time, buddy. Apologies if it's a woman in charge. The exact same goes for you if you're a woman.
