GREEN DIAMOND TRAIL Found this trail on YELP, located at the…read moreedge of town using their map. Started at an open gate onto a dirt road through a massive Redwood forest. This trail has no signage...so a gps mind is helpful. I used the go out, out and out and find a way back plan. Lots of crisscrossing dirt roads, found some new, hard to follow, barely there single tracks, dead-ends, a small jump park and some super fun but short runs. Unfortunately it was muddy and I should actually have stayed off some of them but I was in a controlled state of lost. It was late afternoon and you would get into these shoots/gullies that got dark fast so I made a premature turn back on a brutal up hill. My STRAVA map gives me a much better look at the layout now. It's a new trail system with potential for growth. There is a small trash problem that has the neighborhood on edge...so pack it out! Skill level- medium , fun level- high. .

Nice visit at the garden [Eureka CA]…read more Just outside the zoo's northern perimeter is the Sequoia Park Garden on W Street. Street parking is available just outside of the entrance. The forecast was partly cloudy in the mid 50's. The garden isn't very big but I enjoyed the variety of flowers that were in bloom which is generally between May and September. Our visit was during the Memorial Day weekend. Took some time taking lots of photos of the colorful blooms including a collection of gorgeous dahlias... wish they had labels for all the flowers for us who are botanically illiterate. Flowers are beautiful subjects for photography that's why I love botanical gardens. The garden also featured a wishing well and a gazebo for small gatherings and events and, also, a small sundial, unfortunately, there was no sun at that time to tell the time of day ツ Sadly, we weren't able to go across to the park. I liked the open grassy meadow and the duck pond. There was a sitting area to rest and take a break, and a playground. The tall trees and serene surroundings makes this place magical. Definitely wants me to return and explore more.

Old town Eureka has so much to see and do... It's a fantastic area to just wander…read more All kinds of different shops from antique shops, to clothing, shops, to shops where you can buy items from Humboldt County. The chain "restoration hardware" started right here in old town. They also have both new and used book shops. One of them is the bookLegger, which has both. A fun shop to stop in is Seymour's novelty shop. From Whoopie cushions, to pink flamingos, to everything in between. There is also a "California visitors center", where you can go in and get local tourist information. There are some great places to eat, from restaurants to otherwise. My two favorites are "los bagels" on 2nd St., and "living the dream ice cream". at the foot of F Street... In season, you can take the Humboldt Bay Harbor tour on the Madaket, a historic boat which used to be a ferry before the days of the Samoa Bridge. During the summer. They have a big open air market on Friday night, and the old town Fourth of July festival is another open air market. That is also lots of fun to visit. The crown jewel of old town has to be the Carson mansion.... A beautiful old building. Unfortunately, it's not open to the public, as it's a private club, but if you know a member, or you can get get in as part of an event, it's really nice on the inside. There are some homeless people in old town, but they pretty much stay to themselves, the best thing to do is just use common sense. You will have a great time here. On the first Saturday of every month, is the popular "arts alive festival." From 6 to 9 PM, they have live music, late night, gallery openings, and businesses celebrating the local vibrant arts scene. It's very popular, and another great event.

Main attractions in Old Town are: Harbor walk, be safe as the homeless can be aggressive here. Many good dining options, including Lost Coast Brewery Cafe, Brick & Fire Bistro, Five Eleven, Phatsy Kline's Parlor and Lounge, etc. Eureka Visitor Center - Another one of my highlights of the trip, but then I happen to crash the grand open party! Dick Taylor Craft Chocolates. Carson Mansion - Looks good from the outside. Close to the public. Main attractions in Eureka are: Micro Breweries - So many to choose from, the most popular one is probably Lost Coast. Of course we went to both their locations and a few more other breweries. The Redwood Curtain Brewery also stood out for us on this visit. They also have Cider companies, but that is not my preference/not my drink of choice. Sequoia Park - I enjoyed this. A nice easy walk/hike. Sequoia Park Garden - Really small, but still very nice and beautiful. The caregiver was also really friendly. Sequoia Park Zoo - If I had young kids, I would have enjoyed it more. My daughter enjoyed it. Atmosphere - Historic, victorian homes, art, etc. Kind of reminds me of Napa or Carmel... Small city, but I am told the largest for their county. I believe the largest coastal city is between SF and Portland, OR. The city is approximately 14.5 sq miles with 26.5k population. Service - Good. Mostly self service walking around Old Town. Price - Depends on what you buy, eat, or drink. Owner Comments - Congrats on Eureka's success since 1850. 1856 Incorporated. 1874 - Reincorporated.

My instructor was very well versed and accredited to teach the course. He was also extremely patient with us newbies and took into account that we each had different body types and physical abilities. I especially appreciated the philosophy of the importance of safety at every moment. There were certainly little nuances I would not have thought of on my own. Best of all, it was REALLY FUN! I got to shoot 21 different firearms and it facilitated my understanding of what works for me and what I'd like to explore more. I recommend this course for anyone who is new to the sport or even the old dogs with rusty skills. I'm now an old dog with new skills and appreciation.

Their site and cabins are comfortable, clean, and cozy. It's such a treat to have delicious breakfasts and dinners al fresco, under a canopy of tall trees. There are a variety of options for ingredients for your sandwiches on the river and delicious, homemade salsa. Michael and Wanda are great hosts making sure you have everything you need. The rafting equipment is well maintained. Our evenings were topped off sitting around a campfire. Anyone would be fortunate to spend time a couple of days with Redwoods and Rivers.

Our group was age 10 - 64 and everyone survived :-) *** request Chris *** I guess I didn't realize how potentially dangerous it was until a couple of our teenagers fell out of the raft during a rapid.... But they were ok... Only bruises and some scrapes. They would do it all over again.... Falls and all. We went on a Class III tour which included Class I - III rapids. It's sort of "medium adventurous". If you have a lot of younger or older people in your group, you are probably good sticking with a Class I - II tour. But you will be safe during a Class III if you tell your guide that you can't swim, don't want to be thrown from the raft, etc. TIPS: DRINK A LOT OF WATER, show up early, expect to be exhausted the next day, expect to do a little hiking / climbing during lunch, Bring sunscreen, get one of those things that help your sunglasses stay around your neck because you will lose them, wear a visor or a cap under your helmet, bring cash to tip your guide because they do a hell of a job and they only make $100/day. IT'S A LOT OF FUN and the owners are really nice people.

Many species of resident and migratory songbirds utilize this habitat, as well as egrets, herons and various raptors. The area is level and relatively flat easy walking, and the slough and wetlands around it provide the perfect habitat for viewing and watching some great seasonal travelers as well as the areas natives. As you exit, there is a small amount a flat parking spaces at the trail head, park and walk in - usually easy access as not many people stop at this cool sanctuary. The trail way is easy walking, hiking, biking and only maybe a mile into the slough and wetlands. There are birds everywhere. I stop by here when I get the chance on cool mornings as it makes for some great viewing. This Wildlife Conservation Board property is well worth the stop and most don't - an easy walking trail with lots open area for birding, hiking, running and biking. the area is open from dawn to dust daily. 4 Stars. 00206

Our party of 12 and a baby had a great ride through the Redwoods. The bikes worked great. We had…read moreone squeaky bike, but it soon became an inside joke because we could always hear where that person was along the road. Our bikes were dropped off at The Wooden Covered Bridge and we rode to the Grove of Titans. There are a few other hikes along the way. The road is mostly unpaved, but no big deal. You do have to yield to cars, but it also wasn't a problem. The company was easy to work with and super nice. This was the way to see this beauty area!
