We stopped in for the Frostbite trail event and found some of the best ciders I've ever had. Got the flight of 5 and couldn't pick the best one! We were driving from Mackinaw Island to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore when we stumbled upon King Orchards' road-side market and bakery. The orchard also offers U-pick berries and orchard fruits but we didn't have time on our travel day. My husband, who was driving, was most interested in getting a strong caffeinated coffee and a bakery item, while I mostly wanted to browse. We ended up being enticed by a table with fresh discounted bakery items -- including an apple pie and croissants. We relaxed with a delicious slice of pie at a table in front, along with coffee and an apple cider "icee" before continuing on our journey. We bought great fresh fruit and vegetables but the worst cherry pie we've ever had. For $18 it would be nice to have a few cherries in a cherry pie. Seriously, it was like someone took a can of cherry juice and stirred in some cornstarch and called it a pie. And this is in the heart of cherry country! Gross. read more

King Orchard was one of the best orchards I've ever been too. The shop had plenty of variety of goods to choose from at reasonable prices. The fresh donuts make the trip here worth it by itself. My favorite little barn store! They have the best frozen apple cider around for $4. I go every time I'm in town. They're also the most reasonable and affordable prices around compared to the other local barns around. It's smaller than others but they have tons. I always find good gifts for family and something yummy for myself. The staff is friendly and the inside is warm and homey in the best way. read more

We were on our way home from Mackinac Island and I kept bugging hubby to go apple picking so we made a pit stop here and I am so glad we did. I was so excited that there were so many honey crisp apples (my favorite) ready to be picked. The more you pick the cheaper they are per pound. The apples were great--crisp and a tad tart. We also picked some raspberries but they ended up being really sour. Try the apple cider and apple donuts (you won't regret it). We had to wait for a fresh batch of donuts since they were so popular. read more

This place is amazing for both kids and adults! We took our 14 month old and 2.5 year old here and not only did they have a blast picking fruit, king orchards also has a fun play area for kids that kept them entertained for such a long time! I got 4 honey sticks and a pumpkin roll last time I went [the end of march] and it was all very good! The pumpkin roll tasted amazing, it was nice and soft, I would definitely buy again. The honey sticks just tasted like honey, since it is haha. The service is nice, we know most people that work there so we just talk well checking everything out. The smell in there is amazing since they have all the good smelling soaps, plus fresh apples. They have a ton of nice stuff. I would definitely say go check it out! read more

This orchard has exposed my family to harmful chemicals TWICE in the past 4 years by applying chemicals in an unsafe, irresponsible manner, ignoring product label warnings in direct violation of the law. Reported to MDARD, both reported incidents verified by MDARD as violations of the law with enforcement actions taken. Our properties do not touch (over a football field away) yet samples taken inside our home tested positive for their chemicals in 2017. Chemical drift crossed Church Rd in April 2021. Vegetation samples across road positive. Too bad nobody warned the public that area was unsafe for people & pets to access for 24 hours following spray. KNOW YOUR FARMERS!! read more

We have a great time throughout the season as a family picking berries, cherries and apples. Very fun place for "U-pick" fruits. Honeycrisp were ripe when we went, and there was plenty to pick from. Nice selection of farm made jams, butters, juice concentrates, etc. Labeling of rows was a tad unclear. One of the workers mentioned how excited she was for spies (spies for pies!), but we couldn't find any rows labeled as spies so we grabbed a couple that we thought were spies...and they weren't. Meh our fault really, but because she mentioned them we thought they were ready for picking. read more

Finding tart cherries outside of Michigan is a little bit like trying to find a four-leaf clover. It rarely happens, unless you're a restaurant or bakery getting them from a distributor in bulk. I am neither, but I do insist on using tart cherries in pies. I've ordered both canned cherries and IQF cherries from King Orchards, and they are high-quality. If you can, get someone else to order with you and split the shipping costs! The cherries are so worth it. read more

King Orchards in Central Lake Michigan has the freshest chocolate tart cherry's I have ever had, could not stop eating them. Also the Balaton Cherry Salsa is the best, mexican taste with a cherry bang. Overall the orchard was very clean and the staff pleasant. Great Find! read more

a delightful accident on the way to shorts. what a find. first, the produce was cheap, i mean really cheap. we bought at some of the stands on 31 and 71 and they weren't nearly as cheap. the nectarines and apricots we got were a dessert by themselves. the raspberry cherry mini pie was even better. if i lived here, i would love to stop by every week. love, juston read more
