We were in TC for the National Cherry Festival so we were inspired to pick some cherries on our way out of town. There are dozens of cherry orchards in the area, but this was on the way to our next stop (Mackinac). We're glad we landed here. We were personally taken around the orchard by one of the orchard workers and shown all the best trees and varieties. read more

Highly recommend! The apples were delicious!! I went to the apple orchards during Oct, so it was a little chilly but it was awesome!!! They have rows to pick apples, and then a field to pick pumpkins! On the field where you pick pumpkins there is a few little play houses, 2 little bowling alleys made with hay, and then lastly a maze made of hay!!! Also, the service was outstanding... Absolutely fantastic. I decided to come to Rennie Orchards after looking up about a dozen orchards online. My main reason for doing so was because you can pick your own apples- but also because it seemed the most authentic and off the beaten path. Definitely NOT a tourist trap! I had the fortune to be able to chat with Mr. Rennie himself who was in the shop when I arrived. You can tell that the man is proud of the business he's built and loves showing it off to new customers. Although I visited during the COVID year, there was still plenty to do in October. Apples galore- both ones you can pick, also some pre-picked. Good variety as well, I was really surprised that they had so many different types growing. The area of apples where you can pick yourself seems to be a limited set of the farm, and while the initial trees were picked over, if you keep walking there is plenty to choose from. Very highly recommended if you're in the Traverse City area! read more

Seriously. We came here in what was probably the worst weather for apple picking - rain and wind warning in place. Although we didn't manage to pick apples ourselves because of the weather, the staff here was so gracious in welcoming us and letting us "pick" from their many varieties of apples and offering to let us sample their products. This is a perfect day outing for families with kids! My husband and I went here today with our 18 month old son to pick cherries. The people working here are very friendly and knowledgeable -- they explained the different types of cherry breeds and let us sample them. My son loved eating cherries right off the tree! It was also affordable -- we picked about 1.5lbs and it came to roughly $8. Definitely worth it for a fun family outing! Would love to come back and try picking some of their ogger fruits later in the year. read more

This is THE fall experience! A must! A beautiful setting for a hayride through the orchard. For $5/person, we took the hayride back to a bonfire, where s'more making, hot dog eating and games for the kids (with prizes) took place. Our hayride driver was so knowledgeable about all the apples and growing processes! There was also a fun corn maze that was pretty large and complex. Back up by the barn is a smaller hay maze for littles, a large teepee, and many photo ops. Cider and donuts completed our trip, along with choosing a peck of great apples. You can also pick your own. Such a fun way to to wander a beautiful farm setting, take in some great fall views/colors, and enjoy this northern Michigan setting. Highly recommend read more

It wouldn't be fall/October without a family day spent at an orchard. In the Detroit area where I grew up my two favorites are Yates cider mill and Blake's orchard. Yates is known for the fresh cider and donuts and they have a gorgeous wooded trail along the river. Blake's is a full day one stop shop with fun for the whole family, kids attractions, pumpkin patch, you-pick trees and a gift shop with goodies to temp no matter the diet. When we moved to Grand Rapids our go to was robinettes. The corn maze was fun and the variety of apples to pick was great, they gave a wine tasting room and a cafe with of course cider and donuts gift shop stuff etc.... that being said in northern Michigan to our shock the orchards of those caliber are few and far between. This is the first we have decided to try and we were pleased! The pumpkins weren't in a patch but honestly we purchased late so it's better than the bins are grocery stores and nice to buy local and support the Rennie family. $0.35 a lb doesn't sound bad until you begin to select and weigh them. We paid $6.99 for our pumpkin which is higher than the $3.99 family fare or meijer pricing but again it's about the experience sometimes. The decor around the farm was adorable and all the staff was friendly. We went inside to grab a bag to pick fresh apples from the trees. They offer 2 bag sizes or a bushel basket full. They also had apples already picked or labels to grab and go if needed. Fresh cider both spiced and hot or fresh and cold. I was a bit bummed that the donuts with bagged and in a warmer since they do not bake their own... they buy them from a nearby bakery. Not a bad thing just not what I've grown to expect. We didn't buy them... the apples are incredible and they had a teepee set up with a hay bail maze for kids. There wasn't really a gift shop but they sell branded shirts... you won't necessarily get the full orchard experience but it was still nice. I'd go back but I'm still searching for my replacement for those I mentioned at first. read more

Rennie Orchards is a great you-pick cherry orchard with reasonable prices. They have apricots and apples, too! Reasonable prices, friendly staff. Make sure you bring your own bucket for cherries so you don't have to pay to use one of theirs. Price today was $2.75/pound for you-pick. read more

When no place in Traverse City had tart cherries for my jam making while in the state, Rennie did! I asked for 10 lbs and they didn't flinch. My husband actually went to get them and had to pick them himself. He said an employee came out and helped him. What service! The only thing wrong was that I used the wrong stuff for jam and have more of a runny cherry syrup, but when you go from tree to jar, who is going to complain?! read more

This place was great. This was my first time here and we picked cherries. The kids working were very knowledgeable of all the varieties available. There are 17 variety of cherries and we were able to taste them all. A gentleman took us for a ride all the way to the back of the farm to taste his favorites. The cashier then gave us tips to keep the fruit fresh. We will be going again. read more
