We came on a Friday night and were told the wait for 3 of us would be over an hour, encouraged and discouraged at the same time, because it is a quaint homey little restaurant with stand-outside- waiting room which folks did't seem to mind. We opted to go to another restaurant across the street and try King Neptune another night. Next night, tonight, my husband and I came about 5pm figuring our chances were better, they were. We were seated almost immediately. Mango bean corn tomato salsa and a small basket of tortilla chips kept us company while waiting to order and eat. On the recommendation of our server, we chose the seafood bisque over the conch chowder. It was terribly salty. Splitting the small cup, we did finish it all and upon her return the waitress asked if we were happy with the choice. I stated that it was tasty but a bit over salted. She came back a few minutes later to say that she agreed and was going to treat us to the key lime pie dessert to balance the salt with sweet. I like that. For dinner my husband ordered the 1/2 lb. plate of fried grouper served with coleslaw and shoestring french fries. Teetering between the half and full pound, turned out half was plenty. No issue with portion size as i have seen other reviewers take issue with. The grouper was light and delicious, perfectly fried and tasty with a dab of tartar. The coleslaw didn't seem to be an afterthought, it matched well and did not have that old-cole-slaw sogginess. My husband's meal was flawless. French fries were perfectly crisp. I had ordered shrimp scampi over linguine. 5 healthy sized shrimp over a good sized portion of well-prepared al dente pasta. The shrimp were a touch over cooked and the flavour was missing something, or more like missing everything. I was looking for a garlicky buttery light wine sauce and it just wasn't there. There were some peppers and maybe another veg that seemed to be afterthoughts, also not cut fresh for preparation of this entree and you could tell. I had two more fork turns of the linguine and left the plate otherwise untouched. Oh, oh, oh... the garlic bread served with this dish was a half of a hotdog roll. The OTHER server came to collect our plates and asked if i wasnt happy with tbe Scampi... i answered honestly and she offered to take it off the bill and did i want to try something else, which i did not. The 2 servers discussed and looked over at us, but i did not feel uncomfortable or that they were trashing us. Waitress 2 dropped the check with the key lime (tasty) pie promised by Waitress 1. We happily very generously tipped, as they deserved it. Will i come again? Well, the grouper WAS delicious... yes, sure I'll try again, but will avoid waiting asnd come early. I counted 8 tables and s couple of ledge seats. They're happy to serve you drinks outside while waiting. The menu is not huge, but there are a few more items id like to try. read more
