Had a great time when I was able to come visit, the atmosphere is old Florida and fun, the staff is very friendly! I loved my blue crab dish as well as the shrimp appetizer, they also had tasty drinks! My parents also enjoyed their food as well! Hope to get the chance to come back one day!

Fantastic food. Fantastic Service. I love the atmosphere. I am always a huge fan of a restaurant that is low on pretensions and big on quality. Crabby's delivers. Will be back!

At First they were accommodating and got us sit in 10 minutes then after of all it took 20 minutes for app How can you have a party wait 45 minutes to come back and say that you are out of crabcakes. Really 45 minutes later after ordering your main course. Sadly I would not come back.

Went for a late lunch. I had the sea bass topped with crab special, with the sides of cilantro rice and plantains. The rice was great, lemony and quite tasty, plantains were nicely caramelized and fried, the fish was ok the crab topping had lotsa shell pieces I eventually pushed it off due to so many hard shell pieces. Husb had fish sandwich. Service was ok. Place is very casual.

Had dinner here last night and don't know why I waited so long to return. Had the crabcake dinner and was fantastic (almost zero filler and chucks of crab meat). My friend had the crabcake and shrimp dinner again it was delicious. The service was good , very nice server. The atmosphere is kinda of dive feeling but great florida feeling. Try this place I am sure you will enjoy.

    Ask the Community - Crabbys

    Is there outdoor seating?

    Don't think so

Is this place reservation only? Got there at 5:30 on a Tuesday and was turned away because we didn't have reservations and the bar seating was full.

This place is a tough reservation. I always end up at the bar. They should remove the back bar and make it table seating

How is the parking at Gettin Crabby?

no problem with parking for us! We got there around 6pm and parked on the street in front of the restaurant.

Now nearly 20 years later, it's still the first restaurant I want to go to when I come back to visit. Nestled along the beautiful Manatee Pocket, nearly every table has a waterfront view to watch the boats going by. The decor "inside" (it's a nearly all outdoor restaurant by the way) is classic Florida; I am always amused by the hurricane water level lines! Even the walk up into the restaurant is a boardwalk ramp (accessibility for the win!) The staff is always friendly there and service is consistent with the speed of getting things in my recollection over the years, even if it's packed. Food wise, Shrimper's has this bread that is just incredible and I can't exactly describe the flavor. I think it's a rosemary and poppy seed bread but I would pay money for their bread recipe. It's that good. I don't think you can get it anywhere else. My typical dinner choice is definitely on the "turf" side, where I like to get the Philly cheesesteak or some kind of pasta dish. This time I went with the pasta primavera, which was new on the menu. I added blackened chicken on top. The veggie quantity was good, and I liked how there was a lot of artichoke, which is more unique for a primavera. Anyhoo, I currently live about 1000 miles away from Shrimpers so I'm not there too often anymore but I always look forward to my next visit!

For our entrees, I had the seafood platter, my bride had the shrimp scampi. Finally for dessert we shared a slice of the caramel cheesecake. THE ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is on the water with bar seating and white cloth table dining in several rooms. If you're looking for seaside dining Pirates Cove will suite you fine. THE FOOD: Our appetizers... My French onion soup was made like a traditional French onion soup with plenty of melted cheese and oodles of onions. There were plenty of mussels bathed in a delicious white wine and butter base for my brides mussels appetizer. Our entrees... My seafood platter featured a small serving of white fish, which was nice and juicy, two small stuffed shrimp, which were quite tasty, two scallops made properly (not under cooked and slimy or overcooked and rubbery). My brides shrimp scampi featured 5 small shrimp over a bed of linguine. The dish was well made with hints of garlic and butter in the balanced cream sauce. The dessert: Our caramel cheesecake dessert was creamy and rich. THE SERVICE: It's always a challenge for a server to serve large parties, but our server did great. Delivered our drinks in a timely fashion watched over us for any needed refills and clearly explained any questions we had. THE BOTTOM LINE: As always with my reviews, the "customer so what" would I return is complicated for the Pirates Cove. My answer... probably not. Why not if the food was prepared properly, the ambiance was fitting for a seafood restaurant and the service was fine? The answer lies in serving size, price and add on charges. I don't mind paying premium prices for a premium meal but Pirates Cove charged $40 for a seafood platter that should more realistically be called a seafood sampling. At $36 My wife's shrimp scampi should have featured large shrimp instead of the small shrimp she received. And, finally, the add on prices which included a 3% service charge and a whopping 21% tip. I don't mind tipping heavily for good service and our server would have probably gotten 25% if it was my choice. However, I HATE having a restaurant dictate what I'll tip! I understand mandatory tipping for a large party but I've never seen it set at 21%! As for the service charge, it was placed on every bill whether you paid with a credit card or not. One of my guests asked if that was a credit card fee (which I hate as well) and was told if he paid cash, our servers would take that fee off. How many people didn't know enough to ask that question, and end up paying that fee when paying with cash?? I hate underhanded trickery like that and discourage it by not returning. In summary you'll have to ask yourself before dining at Pirates Cove, is the food, ambiance and service quality worth the rest? If it is, enjoy. As for me, I'll skip it. There are too many other great seafood places that will provide quality dining, great service and atmosphere without the unwelcome luggage included.

The cute outside tiki style dining area had a bar and a great island type feel. Unfortunately, it was packed, so we chose the inside dining area. Unlike the outside area, which felt quite tropical islandish, the ambiance of the inside dining area was... well let's just say, functional. First let's discuss the service. Our server was fantastic. Explaining the specials, keeping our drinks topped off and providing just the right amount of attention (not overbearing and not missing in action when needed). She was what restaurant "servers" used to be and are now degraded to "food deliverers". On to the food. My lovely bride ordered the salmon and I... although I initially intended to enjoy seafood at a "seafood restaurant", decided on one of the specials, duck with a blueberry glaze. We started our meal with the mussels in white sauce. The mussels were great and the white sauce was ideal for bread dipping which we chose to indulge in until the little rolls ran out. Salads were included with our meals. Usually when you get an "included" salad, it's an afterthought and tastes like an afterthought. But it was clear that these salads were not that. I ordered the Caesar's salad, my spouse the house salad. Both were great (except for the tomatoes on the house salad which were blah). Both salads were icy cold with just the right amounts of dressing. Good start. My brides salmon was prepared well but lacked something. We both agreed it needed some type of sauce to add a bit more flavor. Her side dish included lemon rosemary potatoes. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a hint of lemon or rosemary. They actually looked and tasted like breakfast home fries. My blueberry "glazed" duck was actually blueberry "bathed" duck. I have never had duck in an actual pond of blueberry "juice". It was too thin to be called a glaze. I must admit, once you overcame the blueberry juice, the duck was cooked to perfection. As a chef, I understand how hard that is to do. Not overcooked, crispy skin, juicy interior. This duck would have had it all if not for the blueberry "juice".. excuse me "glaze". My duck was accompanied by an ample serving of excellent fresh spinach with bit of garlic topping. For desert, we shared the vanilla/chocolate Tartuffe which was excellent. One of the things we found appealing was the prices. Everything was in the twenty + dollar range. Not bad in today's inflated dining market. The bottom line of any review is... would we come back? The answer is yes. This time we'd sit outside in the tiki bar area to get more of the island feel, hopefully get our server to serve us again and try a few more dishes. Perhaps something that included clams since the restaurants name is after all Mangia "Clam" Bar.

Let's talk about the art and presentation, because the visuals absolutely support the story. The expressions, body language, and panel flow are all working together to make scenes more vivid. The manga knows when to emphasize impact through close-ups, charged framing, or a sudden shift in tone.
