Green beans and mushrooms were both really good. Sushi and baked whitefish were ok, but the beef in the broccoli was rubbery, the onion was nearly uncooked, and the chicken meatball was awful. Didn't try any fried stuff or desserts. It was $15 including tax for a To-go box from the buffet. The staff must work so hard to keep this up. I mean there was so much food! The young guy who greeted us was nice, and the other two workers were I think just working too hard to be able to bother. Stopped for dinner after a long day of motorcycle travel in 95 degree heat and no lunch. Was surprised to find such a large buffet restaurant in this small town. The food was typical Americanized Chinese food (hence my maximum 3 star rating) but was actually decent quality. Chinese buffets in small towns are typically terrible. Not the case here. They offered basic sushi and also a grill service as well, the latter of which I did not sample. The main dishes were there and were quite fresh and tasty. No ice cream but the dessert selection was typical Chinese restaurant fare. I left the restaurant satisfied. read more

Terrible, it looked amazing but it was really terrible. I'm from Houston and the sauces were not at all what I'm used to eating. The crab rangoon was awful. I have no idea what they use for their wrapping but it was not good at all. I was so disappointed. I didn't think you could mess up chinese food so bad but they get an A+ on that. We've been to King Buffet countless times in the last 4 years we've lived in the area. This past Sunday we went to King with friends, because this is a place where you can satisfy every palate (we had a child in our group and were meeting a friend of our friend for the first time). Our one complaint remains the same....NOTHING IS HOT. Food is lukewarm at best, so if you prefer HOT food, hot the hibachi. King Buffet has a great hibachi chef. He comes and goes from his post, so sometimes there's a 10+/- wait for him to return and start on preparing your food. Which is kind of gross, because all that time your plate is just sitting there, uncovered, waiting for the chef. Anyhoo, selection of the Sunday buffet was excellent. There were the usuals (soup, ribs, green beans, pizza, fried rice, rice noodles, salmon, sushi, General Tso's and sesame chicken, egg rolls, wonton, dumplings, etc, etc, etc......!) as well as a variety of other choices. This day King had frog legs. I like to eat unusual things. And they were magnificent! Typically, if this particular fare is even available at a buffet, it tastes swampy. These frog legs were lightly battered and absolutely delicious. Our group had chicken, beef, pork, fish and shrimp, green beans all around, mushrooms, salad, jell-o, ice cream, etc, etc, etc. We were finished eating and just chatting/catching up, when a woman approached our table. She was accompanied by 2 small, quiet children. The woman asked for money, she pointed to the cashier @ the entrance and said "They won't feed us." We politely declined her request and continued the conversation she interrupted, watching her as she went from table to table asking for money. Initially I thought staff wasn't aware of what she was doing, but I saw her approach a table occupied by 2 older gentlemen as the waitress was refilling their drinks and the waitress did NOTHING. The two older gentlemen took the woman and her sons to the register and paid for them to eat. How quickly things changed. Mom parked herself in a booth and the kids took off, RUNNING all over the restaurant. They both piled their plated high with food and took them back to the table. From there they grabbed plates @ the hibachi, loaded them up (I'm talking OVERFLOWING) and threw them down for the hibachi chef to prepare (these kids have been here before). The younger boy apparently changed his mind on his choices and RETURNED all of the raw food he'd selected to the respective containers with his BARE hands (they did not visit the restroom AT ALL, so I know their hands weren't clean - as if an unattended 5 year old would even use soap anyway.....). I alerted staff and they removed the containers of contaminated food. The boys went on to load up 2 more plates from the buffet hot tables and take them where Mom was sitting. The hibachi chef returned and prepared the food. About 10 minutes after the chef finished, one boy retrieved the hibachi food and took it to Mom's table. Both boys immediately returned to the hibachi and LOADED their plates with more food for the chef to cook. I should add, each time the boys SCREAMED across the restaurant to their mom, asking if she wanted eggs, rice, etc. So much for the silent beggars. My husband (6'2", 21 year retired disabled Army Veteran had had enough and approached the boys at the grill. He asked them if they were going to EAT all the food they'd loaded up, and told them it WASN'T OK to put it back if they changes their mind. From that point on, Mom (finally!) accompanied her children to the hibachi. Sad that my husband disciplining HER children was her only incentive to control her OUT OF CONTROL boys.... Anyway, between 5 hibachi plates and countless trips to the buffet, this LOUD uncouth family ate. Mom stayed seated except for one trip to the buffet and to accompany her sons to the hibachi on their 3rd load up (after my husband talked to them). And then? The woman asked for and received TAKE OUT CONTAINERS from the staff. She loaded up enough food for at least 4 days, and I'm being modest. I don't know about you, but I've yet to visit a buffet that allows patrons a "free doggy bag." I don't know that I'll be back based on this one incident. The kid putting RAW food back with his BARE, UNWASHED hands disturbed me. That staff allowed a woman and 2 children to go from one table to another to solicit paying customers disturbed me. And that after this woman got her meals paid for, the restaurant afforded her the luxury of taking home 5 hibachi plates plus whatever else they loaded up on from the buffet.....I don't know. We were full price paying customers (party of 5) who had our Sunday upset by a raucous family who clearly meant more to staff than honest, well-tipping return customers. On our way to King Buffet I happened to notice a different Chinese restaurant. I think we'll stop there next time, instead. Watch for my review to see if that's a worthwhile venture. read more

We are new to the area, looking for lunch. Drove by this place and saw a crowded parking lot. Taking that as a good sign I read the Yelp reviews. Looked promising but here's our experience; the green tea was tepid and weak, the ladies restroom had No soap or hot water. The food selection was vast & plentiful. However, the quality was questionable. Chicken items were incredibly dry and bland, the Thai chicken was red but unseasoned, fresh green beans were oily, sushi was pasty & tasteless, catfish was perhaps mislabeled fish-stick Cod. Maybe we just hit it on an off day, or this is on par for a $6.99 AYCE buffet but my search history would show; 1) Yelp review of King Buffet, 30 minutes later, 2) how long till symptoms of food poisoning appear? read more

Ok, I don't usually go to Asian buffet places, but I had to try this one because they say they have hibachi and sushi (which is a rare find in a small east Texas town). They did indeed have hibachi and sushi rolls, which were surprisingly good for a buffet restaurant. In addition, they also had a delicious variety of seafood and other treats (outside of the usual chinese buffet foods), including oysters on the half shell, octopus, crab meat, frogs legs and different styles of shrimp. All of this variety is cooked with no MSG and using 100% vegetable oil. This place has made it to my list of favorite places to eat in Palestine. read more

We went there for dinner like we had dozens of time before, but the roof was over cooked and old. The sushi was stale and smelled rotten. The manager was told that it smelled bad and he did nothing. I asked if the ownership had changed he said no just the mama gombe had changed... We'll they need to change it back! This place sucks now. read more

I've never been to a worse Chinese buffet. The best thing there was the pre frozen fried shrimp . I have gone there about four times in the last three months. Not once had anyone taken a plate, not once had anyone came to my table (I brought a bottled water). Tonight was the end. Had to go to the front to ask for napkin. Left the table with no ticket. Had to go to the front and tell them I don't know.... No bill. There might have been five tables at the beginning, probably less than three when I left. Not surprising. Don't bother. read more

Traveling with a group, stopped in noon on Saturday. Everyone found something and everything was enjoyed. Food was fresh, staff attentive.

I had been stopping at the Beijing China Buffet when passing though Palestine the past few years, but then King Buffet opened in the old Ryan's location. While Bejing was okay, King Buffet so far is better. Better variety of food and better quality of food. The two Chinese buffets have been in a pricing war during the summer--I had a really good lunch at King Buffet for $4.99. read more

This restaurant uses the worst cuts of beef and pork available. The food is OK if you only eat vegetables. Everything else is covered up with flour, garlic, soy sauce, and sugar to disguise it. Don't waste your money. If just want to eat mostly trashy food go ahead. read more

Big fan of Chinese Buffets... big fan, why? Because of my Chinese ancestry ( yes, I'm part Oriental - which only white people and the younger " Asian " generation thinks is a racist word ) and of course cause it's all you can eat. The wife and I laugh that when after I've finished two plates, they always bring the check - little do they know, I'm not pau yet ( Pau - Hawaiian for finished - yes I'm also half Hawaiian ). Anyways, while passing thru the town of Palestine, we were getting hungry. Wife asked if I wanted to eat Chinese buffet, since we've seen King buffet in the past, but kept driving by. Glad we stopped in today. ( note - there are two buffets next door to each other. Went to King cause it had more stars than the other one. Staff here were friendly and the food, although not as much variety as other Chinese buffets was tasty. And the price was really good. $8.99 for lunch. Looking forward to next road trip so I can eat here again read more

I am very happy with this place. It is a good mix of the different foods from all of asia. Also they have catfish and pizza for those kids who don't care for ethnic foods. This has to be the worse Chinese buffet I have ever seen! At least four of the items were not edible. My grandson got barb-b-que ribs and they were so tough he couldn't chew them. We had lunch at this restaurant twice and it was good, the hibachi was the best! The first time we had dinner at the place, we arrived at 8:45pm, the restaurant closes at 10pm. There was hardly any food on the buffet and what was on there was cold and tasted old!!! I asked one of the ladies if they could please put out fresh food and why there was hardly any food out. There were also several families still in there eating (we weren't the only ones) She explained to me that because they are about to close they don't put anything out but if I wanted something she would go get it from the kitchen. Well I'm at a buffet, I didn't want to stand there and tell her everything I would like...hello it's a buffet! So I told her sweet and sour chicken and chicken strips. After a few minutes here she comes with a platter of sweet and sour chicken, she came up to the buffet where I was trying to find something to eat and is like here is your chicken! It was so embarrassing...why didn't she just put it at the buffet! Then when the chicken strips were cooked she brings a platter to our table! It was so embarrassing for my family and I. We will not be returning to this restaurant. If you are open until 10pm that doesn't mean to quit making food at 8:45!!! And for goodness sake don't follow people around the buffet trying to find out what they want to eat and then bring out platters of food like that. read more
