They have the best selection of Tropical Fresh Water fish in San Jose and beyond. Naturally the types of fish can vary week to week which is awesome. Also, the owner is very accommodating and knowledgeable. I buy all my fish from them over the last 10 years for my 200 gallon.

Great selection of fish and fish related stuff and junk! My wife loves fishies and every time we are in the area we have to stop in and pick up another water creature for our tank. I like coming here as it's like a trip to a fish zoo! The tanks are (mostly) all well maintained and each one has a different look. Colored stones, different plant life, almost like themes. Sadly some of the tanks had dead creatures floating in them. I guess with so many tanks these things happen but it's a bit of a buzz kill for the zoo experience. Imagine seeing a dead monkey at the zoo, ugh. This place is far from my home so I rely on the interweb for accurate information. Google told us they were open on Monday but when we arrived on one trip, there was a sign on the window that said "closed for super bowl". On Monday? I guess fish folks get hangovers too ;) They do have a check in offer for 10% off so that's worth a trip there. Their prices seemed reasonable to me anyways but I was more impressed with their selection. Service is friendly, knowledgeable, and pretty fast but we got a sick fish on our last visit. I really want to give them a better rating but I think 3 stars is fair all thing considered. Don't show up super bowl Monday and inspect the fishies they caught for you before you leave and you should be good!

so this was the 1st time I was in the store . I was in the area and wanted to check out another different fish store to see what they have in stock in fresh water fish. I just started a fish tank not too long ago and trying to add come cool fishes to my collections. they had a large salt water selection seemed not to bad kind of a large selection compared to most retail pets stores. They have pretty high prices on the fish looked like I did find these unique color full mini guppies I got a pair of.. they are still alive and se em to be very active in my tank so I'm very pleased with my purchase of these fish's here. this place I would recommend if you are looking for fishes only I didn't really see any tanks or accessories available really here. If you have a salt water tank I think you will enjoy the section a lot better.. They did have a very cool largeeeeeeeeee tank in the front and the lady that was working was very friendly and even showed me how she feeds them . she gave them some large pellets .. The fish in the tank was super large I took a photo of it ...

Electric blue Jack dempseys I purchased from there in my tank. Been looking for them everywhere!

Do you ever carry Kribensis Cichlids?

Do you accept fish tank donations?

    Do they sell aquarium plants?

I just stopped by on Sunday and they were closed at 2:30pm . Are they open on Sundays?

Yes sometimes they close early so call ahead if they dont pick up high chance it's closed

How much is a parrot fish?

Is this place still open for business? I came by twice and it seems to be closed during business hours.

They are mysterious like that. I was just there this weekend and they were open.

Livestocks are healthy, probably the healthiest among all LFSs in the bay. Also, this is one of the few stores that sell you the correct chili rasboras, not phoenix rasboras; they colored up properly in just 1 hour after I got home. Decent prices overall but they sell CPDs a bit high ($14). I like the customer support here but I see why some people don't like them. The staff won't talk to you unless you directly ask them. They are very friendly tho. So, don't wait for them to check on you if you need something. I actually prefer this way. Decent price but they sell CPDs a bit expensive so you might want to try another store if you want to buy CPDs.

I was a bit worried about my visit due to some of the negative reviews…read more I only interacted with two staff members but both seemed enthusiastic to help me while also giving me space to shop. The conditions of these tanks are PRISTINE. I'm not sure if it's due to their lightning or something else but the water just looks very clear and clean. I didn't see a single dead fish while browsing. Based on this fact, I'd like to believe that their livestock is quite healthy. They also make their policies VERY clear. It's on their website and there are also signs around the shop. Maybe these policies aren't that shocking to me since I buy lots of livestock online that don't have a guarantee after you add it to your aquarium. They do not have a phone number to check stock but they do post updates on their website and email newsletter. They claim it's due to high foot traffic but it wasn't very busy when I was there (Friday afternoon) with that being said, all of the staff members were doing something while I was at the store. I think they just don't have enough people sometimes. Price wise, yes some of the fish are outrageously priced ($14 for a CPD is crazy) but many of them seem reasonable. I assume it's however they're getting their stock or the fact that they offer 20% discounts if you get a 40G+ kit. They also sell cycled media for $20/lb if you're impatient to cycle a tank! I would highly recommend as a place to visit if you're just setting up a new tank or need a more uncommon/rare fish. They'll have basically anything you need but you can definitely get more common fish like pygmy corys, pea puffers, CPDs, etc elsewhere if you're looking to save money. The guy (I dont know if he is the owner) has always been nice even though im only coming in to look for new discus fish, he has never treated me badly for not buying. When he does have discus, its always priced very fair and in good condition, if the fish are sick he will let me know ahead of time and to address the past review about fish being sick is that fish get sick all the time due to the stress environment even if they're not sick at the time of purchase, once you add it to your aquarium can get sick from the environment you put them into so its not always the place you bought it and it's just part of the process. This place has always been upfront and honest about everything and informational when fish starting out with purchasing a type of species of any fish. The fact that I can bring Frankie inside with me and let him look around so I can note what his preferences are is a major draw for us. As I am wrapping up this review, I see that I am writing it about a different store than I intended. But I believe that this company is committed to hiring quality staff across the board because of its love for animals. Thus I will post it anyway.

**Update: I spoke with the customer service representative at the number I was provided, and they…read morespecifically told me that I am eligible for a refund even if the store attempted to fix the haircut. I then called the store and spoke with the manager, who told me that I am not eligible for a refund because I chose to have the haircut "fixed." This directly contradicts what customer service told me. For clarification, the haircut was not fixed. You cannot fix bald spots, an unevenly shaved head, or fur that was already cut significantly shorter than what I specifically requested. They also did not even shave/clean up his paw pads as part of the attempted correction. The manager also claimed that I took my dog outside to use the bathroom, which they said was the reason he had diarrhea all over his rear. That is not true. I did not take him outside after dropping him off. I went directly back to my car. He had diarrhea on his rear when I picked him up after the grooming, and his anal area was still covered in feces. Petco has outdoor camera footage that should be able to verify that I did not take my dog outside after dropping him off. I am asking that this footage be reviewed rather than making an assumption about what happened. My original complaint was about a grooming service that did not follow my instructions and left my dog with an unacceptable haircut, including bald spots, an unevenly shaved head, an unproportioned appearance, and razor burns behind his ears. The fact that the store attempted to alter the haircut afterward does not change the condition in which he was originally returned to me, nor does it make the haircut repairable. I am requesting the refund that customer service confirmed I am eligible for. I would also like the conflicting information from customer service and the store manager addressed and documented.** Do not take your poodle here!!! The staff was very nice, but unfortunately, the groomer did not know how to do a standard teddy bear poodle haircut or follow basic grooming instructions. My toy poodle gets professionally groomed every month at his usual salon, but they were booked, so I decided to give Petco a try. I had previously taken my terrier to Jayme and he did an amazing job, so I felt comfortable trying Petco again. My toy poodle was not matted whatsoever by the way and Jayne was not the groomer this time. I brush my dog every day and he gets groomed monthly. I specifically asked for a "light trim" especially to leave his mustache and head long. I also asked for longer legs, a shorter body, and rounded ears. Instead, his entire haircut was butchered. She took off almost all of the length from his face and head, left bald spots on his ears and head, and made his head significantly smaller than his body. He looked completely disproportionate and almost like he had been buffed down. What makes this even more frustrating is that I had been growing his hair out for a long time, and his coat takes months to grow back to the length it was. I intentionally maintained his coat and brushed him daily so he could keep that longer teddy bear look. I wasn't asking for a drastic haircut at all--I specifically asked for a light trim and to preserve the length on his face and head. Now, because so much of his coat was unnecessarily cut off, I have to wait months for it to grow back. I showed the before and after photos to the staff, and they agreed that he looked very bad. I understand that Petco groomers may not be at the same level as a groomer who specializes in poodles, but you should still be able to follow the customer's instructions. Especially when the dog has no mats and there is no reason the requested length couldn't be maintained. I paid $85 with tip for a haircut that I was extremely unhappy with.. I spoke with the manager and requested a refund, but she told me I couldn't get one because the groomer was going to "fix" his haircut. Obviously, you can't really fix a haircut when the hair has already been chopped off. At that point, the only thing they could do was try to make him look more even. You can't put the hair back, and making him look even doesn't solve the fact that months of growth were taken off. Even I could have done a better job following the instructions I gave them. The before and after pictures speak for themselves.
