The DH, mutt, and I escaped to Grass Valley for a few days and I while walking down main street, I noticed a women exiting this building with what I think can only be considered that yoga glow, and I was right when I stopped to view the residents of the building. The studio is beautiful with the original hardwood floors that are about 150 years old. The dim lighting is perfect for yoga at any time of day. Mats and all the fun yoga props are available. I took the Monday morning basics class with Sheri. Basics classes are rarely that, and people in the know realize that a basics class can be harder as your are holding poses longer instead of charging through vinyasa, but the class was challenging, invigorating, and tailored to the participants. It was $15 for a drop in 90 minute class, which is more than reasonable. read more

I was staying a few days in Nevada City, and ventured out to GV for a few hours. I noticed this yoga spot, asked the sweet woman (Mandy) outside if there was a class happening within an hour and it just so happened it was my lucky day! I took Trudy's gentle/ restorative class, and it was lovely. She's knowledgeable, gentle, warm and does a little aromatherapy at the end (only if you're OK with essential oils - she will ask first). I bought some locally sourced honey... unfortunately, it broke in my travel bag and honeyed up all my belongings so I never got to taste it. Booo!! read more

Love Kinfolk and all the instructors. Was intimidated about the other studios offered across the area, but after stepping into Kinfolk, I felt welcomed and the classes were enjoyable without being intimidating. Mandy the owners class are especially enjoyable & always help to clear my mind and get me in a good zone. Would totally recommend. read more

I can't recommend this studio enough, particularly classes with Allie Edison! She holds space for her students like a gentle cocoon, bringing thoughtfulness and generosity to intelligent sequencing that opens the heart and mind. "Easy Like Sunday Morning" is a perfect name for her mellow and sweet class offerings at Kinfolk. Allie brings over a decade of wisdom as an instructor to her teachings, and her experience is obvious. I wish I lived locally! I'd be there all the time. I haven't tried the other teachers, but Allie is enough reason to go check this place out. read more

I decided to try a class at Kinfolk while I was visiting Grass Valley. The studio is in a beautiful old building with exposed wood beams and stone walls. My teacher was really friendly and helpful as well. I'll definitely return when I'm in the area. read more

Holy Cat-Cow, I attended Mandy's class recently hoping that in some way I could find relief for my lower back. Mandy customized the class to help me and I walked out of there PAIN FREE!!! I'm amazed. Truly one of the better yoga teachers I have worked with. I'm hooked, can't wait to go deeper into the practice she offers. read more

As a yogi with a strong and dedicated practice, I visit yoga studios all over the world when I am on business, vacation, retreat or adventure. Kinfolk yoga is one of the blessed gems available. The owner pays close attention to the minute details that not only offer a wonderful space to practice, but selects and hires the best and most qualified teachers around. I have had the pure pleasure to advance, refine and grow my practice at Kinfolk yoga. The mats and accessories are all brand new and cleaned on a regulars basis and are free of charge for those who are traveling or forget their mat. I appreciate Kinfolk and the teachers for offering the highest level of practice in a beautiful studio to all levels of students from beginner to advanced. Teachers are extremely professional and dedicated to their students and warmly welcome new attendees. If you are looking for a studio in which to practice once, twice, or daily, I recommend Kinfolk. read more

While on vacation definitely the best yoga studio I came across in Grass Valley. There's a big variety in styles of teaching and the ambience is amazing. Wish I lived closer. read more

This studio has such an incredibly sweet and welcoming family atmosphere. I have searched around the area quite a bit for teachers and an environment that suite my practice and I have definitely found a home at Kinfolk. I have mostly just taken Devin's kick your butt in the most wonderful, juicy, opening way- flow classes. Although the few times I checked out other classes I loved the diversity in what was offered and have enjoyed everything I have taken. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming it is hard not to fall in love with this place. Plus- any studio that runs a special offering $5 classes on wed if you wear animal print... Definitely wins major points in my world. read more

All the props you need are there also. read more

We had Mandy from Kinfolk Yoga do a yoga session with us and our friends and family on the morning of our wedding at our venue. She was fantastic! She did a great job of fitting the class to everyone's needs - we had both experienced yogis and first-timers present. She was able to bring extra mats and equipment for people who didn't have their own. It was a wonderful moment to take a break from the craziness of setting up the wedding and to re-focus on ourselves and the meaning of the day. I would highly recommend her! =) read more

This is a great studio that I just started going to. They have a great intro deal for locals to check out different classes. The studio has beautiful wooden floors and a nice peaceful ambience. The class size is nice and small allowing the teachers to make adjustments and give individual attention. Mandy is a great teacher and takes the time to connect with each student by learning their names. It is a very warm and inviting atmosphere whereas some studios can feel pretentious. I cannot wait to try out more classes here and experience different teachers and their styles of yoga! read more

This is such a gem of a yoga studio! It's been years since I've been able to find a truly soulful studio featuring all different kinds of traditions, and Grass Valley is so lucky to have Kinfolk! I especially love Tutku's classes on Wednesdays- the fire flow for when you want to have a spiritual but moderately active practice and the vichara class for deep and restorative self-inquiry :) I also love Ericardo's kaula tantra class, Mandy's kula class and Brooke's class! All of these are full of SOUL and led by teachers who are super committed to the traditions and origins of their practices... read more

This is the first yoga studio I ventured into after being freshly transplanted to Grass Valley. I've found that Kinfolk Yoga offers a super wide variety of classes throughout the day to suit a wide variety of yogic needs. Although all teachers express different styles and voices in their teaching, I've also found that the consistent quality shared among all of them is their attention to the roots of yoga. The classes, even Power Hour, are not so much exercise-oriented like many of the classes I'm used to taking in the Bay Area. What I find special about Kinfolk Yoga, and what I will ultimately keep coming back for, is the focus on the spiritual awakening aspects of yoga. read more

Mandy helped me organize a trip I had planned to Grass Valley for 6 of my friends. We celebrated my birthday and attended 4 yoga/meditation classes in 2 days. Everyone remarked about how beautiful the studio is and what a lovely soothing voice Mandy has. She is an excellent teacher and made us feel very welcome. I will go again! read more

Kinfolk yoga studio has become a sanctuary for me on Friday nights. Mandy and all of the talented instructors guide you through each class with such grace and I leave feeling peaceful and calm in my own skin. I am a "gym rat" so yoga is a much needed balance. If you haven't checked out the studio, it is well worth investing the time in yourself. Namaste. read more

So, we move into fall and winter and the 5 star rating stays the same! Kinfolk Yoga is the most caring, dedicated, compassionate, educational, community minded, , and ever evolving yoga sanctuary I know of. Including articulate and lovingly helpful instructors, offbeat, and important special events, soul gratifying moments...it's my second home :) read more

Mandy has put together an incredible group of instructors. Each have their own style, but all are so patient, experienced and knowledgeable. As a beginner, I was very hesitant to participate, but this group is so accepting and accommodating, I look forward to each session, even if I'm unable to get into some of those crazy hard positions! read more

I too was visiting Grass Valley, and had the opportunity to take the para yoga class from Kelly, which was great. I liked it so much, i went back to the studio for a second time and had a class with Zion, who was subbing for the "basics" class. He did a great job, with smooth sequencing, good adjustments, even a nice and varied selection of music. It was a great class. So the two instructors from whom I had classes were excellent! I highly recommend the studio for visitors and you locals, too. read more

I enjoy Allie's gentle, restorative classes. She is very warm and makes an effort to remember names. She helps beginners feel welcomed and explains poses clearly. The essential oils she uses are a nice touch. What an awesome smile too! I leave her class feeling like I've been to the spa! This is my favorite studio in town! read more

I recently was house sitting for 2 weeks in Grass Valley and discovered this sweet yoga studio. I purchased their incredible introductory package which is a super deal!! Their schedule of classes offers many options and much flexibility. I went to a class everyday and some days twice. I was able to experience so many different styles of classes. Every teacher was super nice (no intimidation here)!! Well educated with anatomy and alignment (imperative in eliminating injury)!! Able to talk and walk you through unfamiliar moves and positions (much appreciated, allowing me to focus within and feel the positive results)!! Mandy offers so many helpful & useful props which allows you to benefit & savor the positions even more. If I lived in Grass I'd surely have an unlimited month pass. I will definitely attend a class every time I'm in the area. I love this place and encourage any one in the area, who is either a seasoned yogi, a first timer or somewhere in between, to do yourself a favor, give yourself a gift and check this place out. You'll be glad you did!! Namaste... read more

I have never been to a yoga studio where so many classes are taught by substitutes. Almost every class I attended had a substitute teacher! Seemed very unprofessional. The environment was nice, and the people were kind, but the yoga and professionalism was sub-par. read more
