I order a used, put-together gaming pc from a sale advertised on their website. It was advertised to be ready 7-10 business days, and that I'd receive an email for pickup. I was charged immediately for the item. I received an email letting me know my order had been placed, an itemized list of what I'd asked for on the pc, that the pc would be ready in 7-10 business days, and that I'd get an email or phone call saying when to pick up the pc. On the tenth business day, after I had heard back from phone nor email (and I was sure to check my spam filters, just on case). So I sent an email asking for an update. No response. Two days later, on a Monday, since I still had no email response, I called, asking what was going on. I got a call from a different number than the one listed on the business website, and talked to Kevin. Kevin told me there were delays in receiving video cards, and that they were still waiting from their supplier. They should have cards in 2-3 days, and that he would call me with an update later in the week. The week ended, and no email update nor call. I called back at the start of the following week, at 10:30am (20 business days). The person who picked up the phone chastised me for calling out of business hours (the hours are not posted on the website at the time of this review, and I have no way of knowing what those were and I had to use google's estimates for business hours). Then, the person stated he would arrive in 15 or so minutes and get the shop set up in another twenty and be able to look at what was going on for my order and call me back. Three hours passed, and I was not called back. So, I decided to take initiative and call back rather than wait another week. As I was leaving a voicemail, I got a call again from the non-business number belonging to Kevin. He left a voicemail explaining that the video cards they were waiting on took three to four weeks to ship, and that they expected the cards any day now. However, as time passed, I grew more uncomfortable having paid for something they didn't have the parts for in their shop, let alone have assembled. Plus, the lack of communication, and the discrepancies when I called, made me feel like I was taken for a ride. So, after thinking for a few hours, I decided to request a refund and go with another company. I called the business number and left a voicemail giving my order number, my desire for a refund, and why. Two business days later, I have not heard back. There has been no acknowledgement of my voicemail, nor have I seen any pending transaction in my credit card statement. So, I have sent an email reminding them I'd like a refund, and informing them I will dispute the transaction with my cc company if I do not hear back in 48 hours (2 business days). Things that would have been helpful: When ordering my item, stating video cards were being ordered as they weren't available in-store. Letting me know there was a delay in shipping video cards rather than have me call to find out what was going on- even a quick email would have been made me feel communicated with and in the loop. Responding to emails within 24 hours They have a banner saying Covid affects pickup and in store hours and that people will have to schedule- why not have another banner pointing out there might be shipping delays. Posting office hours on the website so I don't call outside of those on accident, and not scolding me for calling before office hours when I have no way of knowing them. Getting back to me within 24 hours about a refund, and acknowledging they have seen/heard and processed it. I will update this review should I ever hear back from Kinetic Computing. Update: Despite being before office hours (based on the interaction I had when I was scolded for calling before office hours), I received a response within minutes about my refund- it will be processed, and they did not receive my voicemail for a refund before. Update on the update: it's been 7 business days and 9 days and no refund has appeared in my card statements. While there has been a power outage during that time, if they processed my refund when they said they would, I should see the refund sooner rather than later. read more

I ordered computer from Kevin in October. I have called text 30 times at least. Keep getting run around. Horrible company Would not recommend them. Lies lies promises that are never kept. read more

Really surprised by a few of the reviews left here. I've dealt with Kevin now for years. Multiple machines for myself, my family, and my friends. He's been totally up front and always and honors his warranties. On the couple of occasions where I've needed follow up service he has been stellar. For a home based small business I've never had better responsiveness or customer service. read more

They set us up with two great computers for kids gaming. All at a very affordable price for what we got. Great customer service read more

Kinetic Computer - IT Services & Computer Repair Near Me - Des Moines, Iowa

I am really upset with this company I bought 2 computers from them back in May and June of 2020 Desktop still going strong however my laptop quit 5 months after I get it, took it in for a repair and here it is May 2022 and nothing. I found out they changed owners who told me to send them the ticket and information of me buying the laptop only to find out they changed their number. I would love to either have my laptop back or the almost $400 I spent on it. I am at the point I am ready to contact the General Attorneys office this is wrong and very unprofessional. You robbed me. Right now this company does not even deserve a 1 star rating. read more

One of the more frustrating and awful experiences of our life, not only from a product standpoint but also from a customer service standpoint. From months to get our original order (beware the endless excuses!), to finally receiving an incomplete order that included a computer missing parts and an inadequate battery, to another month and a half of excuses on the battery replacement. We finally submitted to Better Business Bureau (with which Kinetic Computers has an F rating with 3 complaints in the last 12 months). There has been no response from Kevin or the Kinetic Computers staff at this point and we are stuck with a computer that doesn't work. STAY AWAY. It should be noted this business's original location was 4043 Beaver Ave. read more

I don't know who these people are, and I have never done business with them. However, I just received a text message out of the blue telling me to visit their website and look at their new stuff for sale. I understand today is an age of digital marketing, but customer's should still have a sense of privacy with the companies they work with, and be given some sort of indication that they'll receive marketing messages. If I ever did contact this company, it would have been years ago and I certainly never gave them by phone number. Perhaps they bought a list of contact addresses and are blindly contacting local people, but this kind of business is not one I would want to do business with. So I did take a look at their website, like the text suggested, and they claim to offer marketing and web design services. This is laughable, with the current state of their "new" website that they so wanted people to visit, which is devoid of most content, clunky, and full of "coming soon" placeholders. And to launch a text marketing campaign to a list of people who aren't even your customers is an even worse sign the kind of marketing they might do for your own company. read more

Why are all the long winded reviews the horrible 1 stars? I have purchased 4 lap tops from Kinetic, each of them 100 to 150 dollars. Less than a thrid retail!!! I have had one repair and one hard drive scrubbed. Both repairs were around holidays in seperate years and took several months. I.E. a one man small business that is overrwhelmed with an enormous work load. BUT Kevin always made it work out for BOTH of us. Kevin IS honest, whether a person chooses to listen to what he is telling them or they hear what they want to hear are two different things. I can not speak for anyone here other than my own SIX purchases from Kinetic. But I can say if you want your shit TODAY go to Best Buy and pay $800 to $1500 or more or get a quality product from Kinetic for a third or less of that price and wait a few weeks. Kenitic IS and has been for the TEN YEARS Ive done business with them! read more

This is the first time I have ever dealt with anyone who took my money and never produced the product. 10/30 I paid for an Ipad with delivery to be 12-11-20. A week after that I called and it was "in" but there wasn't a charger with it and it should be shortly.. Here we are today, 1-17-21, and no product, no calls returned, not in the office, no refund. Shame on me for not checking reviews here and with BBB. They all say the same. I'm not done seeking a remedy. read more

I tried to purchasing a build to order gaming PC from Kinetic for my son, as I thought supporting my son's interests and purchasing from a local business at the same time were both good ideas. I spoke on the phone with Kevin and he let me know that the computer would be done in around 7-10 business days. Long story short, it's now five months later and I have not received a refund from Kinetic that I asked for about three months in to my wait with this company. After two months, the PCs were supposedly assembled and all that was left was the special graphics card I ordered. That added an additional month. Still nothing, all while Kevin would dodge my questions and come up with new excuses for why it had been three months instead of the advertised 7-10 days. I can understand one to two months wait during a global pandemic, that is a genuine excuse. But it was nearing four months and Kevin was perfectly happy with my money and not having given me my PC I ordered. So, I cancelled my order and receiving a refund has been just as frustrating as the wait for Kevin to assemble the PCs in the first place. I tried to be nice and understanding, but since the get-go, Kevin was using excuses with me: first his father passed, then it was about how COVID-19 caused significant shipping delays, then it was that he was under the weather, and now the latest is that his dog passed away. After five months, these are starting to sound like excuses a part-time employee at a grocery store would use to "fool" their manager--not excuses a purportedly genuine business would use with their clients. All it takes to process a refund is the click of a few buttons but Kevin has made it sound like it's more difficult than climbing Mt. Everest. I wish I could say the same but my patience has run thin. Now he is trying to exculpate himself and say the latest refund delays are because of his accounting software. That they, QuickBooks, have had staff lay-offs due to COVID-19. And that all of this was their fault, not his. This is where I begin to call into question the legitimacy of Kinetic as a business. I suspect they are just a bunch of technicians turned crooks and con-artists. This is highway robbery. Why have I not received a refund after almost a month? Why does your dog passing away excuse a lack of professionalism for five months and counting? I suspect I sunk a lot of money into a broken and dying business who would rather take people's money than actually fulfill their promises to paying customers. Shameless. DISGUSTING. Do not make the same mistake that I made and give these numpties your money. read more

Sold me a MacBook I wasn't happy with and offered little help and no recourse. They've also had a Mac desktop I traded in since April, finally in mid June after many emails from me and lots of excuses from them, they told me they'd give me $100 for it. I've still yet to see that money and they've stopped replying to my emails about it. Terrible customer service and poor products. Stay away. read more

I've bought laptops and notebooks from Kevin for several years now. March of 2021 I, for the first time, ordered one custom. I was assured by Kevin himself that it would take two weeks. After nothing but inconsistent excuses for SIX MONTHS, I requested a refund or the order. I haven't heard back. It's been about a year now. I can't express my disappointment enough. I considered this man a friend. read more

I have to be honest, I didn't want to leave this review, but as it stands the balanced reviews are not indicative of the service me or my friends have received. In May, I saw postings for a gaming computer special for around $300. I went in, ordered one, and immediately I was charmed. Kevin seems like a really nice guy. However, I ended up paying a little more than was advertised on Craigslist. They also were spamming Craigslist with ads, which made me a bit worried. Ultimately, I was suspicious because I was being given a very competitive price for the pandemic on computers, and it was only going to be 2 weeks according to Kevin. He went as far to suggest that he simply needed to assemble the parts, but didn't mention that again so I don't want to read too much into it. Fast forward to mid-July. I have been calling the shop about weekly, and I've been given the same answer. "The cards are delayed due to the pandemic." There were also other personal reasons that were given that I wouldn't begrudge anyone. I eventually call in angry, though not genuinely so, and express my frustration frankly. At that point, I really thought I had been given the slip and was thus down nearly half a grand. However, Kevin assured me this was not the case, and that they would have my PC very soon. It was another 2 weeks from that call, with many delays before I got my computer. However, I didn't want to write a bad review. I was happy with my PC, and understand that business in the pandemic can be less that normal. I actually recommended a friend to get a computer from them, primarily because the price of ordering individual components is so expensive these days. He ordered in late July, I believe, and was told it would be week to a week and a half (better than what I was told). As of today, September 16th, he has not received the computer. Ultimately, I appreciate these guys for providing budget computing solutions, but they rely so heavily on charisma and smooth talking to make up for the fact that they lie about the time it will take for a computer to arrive. That's right, they lie. I didn't want to assume the worst, but for this to be a repeating issue means that they are misleading their customers significantly. The money I could've made using this PC in the extra 6 weeks I had to wait for it could've allowed me to do a lot. Kevin left me, my friend and many of his customers hanging because there is a systemic issue with honesty in this company. The lies they told to me and my friend have cast doubts on whether or not the parts in my machine are genuine, or the reasons for the delays are honest. Until Kinetic announces that they will invest more in staff, parts acquisition and reorient their policy in regards to telling the truth, I cannot recommend this place. read more

Do not do business here. They don't do business here. I purchased a computer from the website and got no email or invoice. The only proof of purchase is my bank statement. I have called many times for an update. When I finally did get a hold of someone I was told maybe two weeks. It has been over a month now. I have never been called with an update. I still do not have the computer I purchased, and am struggling to get a hold of anyone there. I can only assume that any good reviews here on Yelp for this business are from people that are in on this scam. read more

I had a personal computer take over 3 months to repair (it never got repaired) so I complained on my Facebook wall. Computer took 3 months to be built, I was told it would take two weeks. I was almost never contacted about the computers whereabouts, I practically always had to call them to find out what was going on. Lots of excuses to why the computer wasn't ready. then once I got my hands on it after those frustrating 3 months had past, I discovered the graphics card within my computer was broken. This lead to me having to wait another 3 months to get my hands on a new card. same communication problems persisted. It should not take 6 months to get a working computer, let alone 1. I do respect them for sticking to there warranty and giving me a slight upgrade for my troubles, but honestly I would have been much happier getting what I payed for in the 2 week time span I was promised, in working condition. read more

Bought a newly built desktop with Windows &. First asked if I would be able to add extension cards and was assured I could. When I got the computer I found it was some micro form factor motherboard that was not intended for a desktop sized case, so the expansion slots are useless. Worse, after a couple of months I started getting a "Windows is not genuine" message, which means the computer was made with pirated software. I have contacted the owner asking for a valid Product ID but am getting no response. I am about ready to turn this guy in to Microsoft. read more

I used the services a few years back and enjoyed the experience. Purchased an older laptop that lasted me about a year. That was what I was told to expect and that is what I got. Horrible company selling crappy computers with bootleg software. They have had so many negative reviews that they've changed their name to "Iowacomputerstore" instead of Kinetic. I will never buy from them again. They have no customer service and don't follow through with anything. Once they have your money, they don't care. The Feds should be looking into this company because they sell almost every product with pirated software. If you're on craigslist they post stock photos instead of the actual items. Buyer always beware when you see stock photos. You show up and that nice laptop you thought you were buying looks like it was dropped down a flight of stairs. Whoever Kim is, I'm a nice easygoing guy and I'm certainly not disgruntled. I just feel that you should get what you pay for instead of receiving curb trash. read more

after reviewing the few reviews listed here, I feel compelled to add this: kinetic computer has been in the business of providing reasonably priced computers and computer services for many many years, serving thousands of very satisfied customers a year. the handful of negative reviews shown here are from the very very small number of disgruntled and impossible-to-please individuals who come to the front door of a business and pay bottom dollar for rehabbed used equipment and expect state-of-the-art performance from machines not designed to execute the functions these buyers demand. to complicate matters, while attempting to reach a satisfactory conclusion, these customers lose their composure and tempers and their civility quickly exits the conversation. that's when I am called in, as Kevin and Jason feel that type of behavior has no place in their place of business. sadly, this type of person exists. you see evidence of that fact here in the very negative reviews. read more

What can I say? I like my computers fast, cheap and sleazy. For an office PC, or something I'm gonna stuff a few upgrades into, the selection is ok. However, the Windows 7 included with my mid-tower PC turned out to be invalid sometime later. I called Microsoft, and they told me my copy was for a laptop! So, of course, I applied a certain patch to "fix" the licensing issues. Now if I'm building a PC out of junk parts in my basement, or a friend is, that's expected. If you're running invalid licenses on refurb PCs, and you're running a storefront, that's playing with fire. read more

We were originally attracted to the business because of the reasonable prices, and the personable customer service. We purchased a small desktop computer and dropped off my husband's laptop for a repair. When our repair kept getting delayed, 2-3 weeks at a time, for one reason or another, for a total of TEN months, I completely lost faith in this company. Meanwhile, we started having issues with our copy of Windows being suspected as counterfeit (the authorization code wouldn't work). Both issues were eventually resolved, but unless you have MONTHS to spare without a computer, I would avoid using this business. read more

Got a lap top from them in late 2014, it took them nearly a month to get it to us after we paid up front. No issues with it until one day the "blue screen of death" appeared. I took the laptop to a computer savvy friend to find out that the extra money that we paid for Windows 7 was actually a pirated copy. I'd recommend that potential customers stay away! read more

I went to here because I had purchased a couple of cheap rebuilds and was happy. Well I ordered a computer built to my specs, and a laptop, and various other items. I waited way longer than I was told for the desktop, never received all the Items I paid for and the desktop has never worked right, crashes several times a day. Has since I brought it home, several months ago. All I get are excuses and promised phone calls. Nothing happens. Will not be back! read more
