I brought my HP Envy laptop in after having issues with it booting up after a windows update…read morefailed. I spent hours trying to get it to work when I finally gave up and figured I needed to call someone that was more tech savvy. I found these guys as a recommended business through HP's website. They gave a quick diagnosis about noon on Monday and was told at that time it could be up to a week to get it back to me. I was completely okay with it as it was of no use to me in its non-working state. After about 2 hours I received a phone call from them with a more thorough diagnosis walkthrough describing what they'd found to be the issue, what they would like to do to fix it and what I wanted backed up and saved. They were able to backup all the files I requested and reinstall an uncorrupted Windows 10 on my laptop. They later called me that same evening about 6:30pm informing me that they think they had everything ready to go and I could pick it up before 7pm when they closed or Tuesday anytime after 10am. I went in today to pick it up and they had an issue getting the laptop to let them login using the password I gave them for the login that hasn't been changed. I likely had a virus that did something to the password. The guy that was working with me today was not the individual that fixed the laptop yesterday evening, but he was able to work around my login and password issue and get that reset for me. I still am so appreciative of the guys that worked on my laptop and the fact that they were able to get it working in less than a day. True lifesavers! Best thing is that I was quoted $29.99 for the fix and my laptop is working how it was before the issue Sunday! Took less than a day to fix and at an excellent price! Thanks guys!

The thing sat for a month and nothing was done because they "couldn't get around to it" and the laptop "wasn't their priority." I went in there today, per my phone carrier, to simply have a cracked screen repaired. I waited 2…read moredays for this appointment, I was there promptly and 1st thing when they opened. After waiting an hour, hour and a half (not a big deal, i would have sat there all day if need be), I got my phone, tipped them, and left. We didn't even make it to the hyvee by there, and my phone had some weird icon I had never seen, Google said 1 of the things it could indicate was overheating. Then when we got to Hyvee, i tried to charge it with the wall plug and my portable charger, and it would not charge. I took it back, and they told me they now would have to order a new part and it would be Friday. Friday. They, somehow, got it charged to about 85% and sent me on my way, with a warning that the charge wouldn't hold long. I had been waiting for this appt, now with 2 NEW problems, that I did NOT have before, have happened, And I would need to wait until Friday. I was DEVESTATED. I was absolutely sad, but what else could I do. I left and went to the Tmobile that sent me there, and they got me set up with a whole new phone, since it was NOT broken in THOSE 2 areas when ai went IN the CPR store. THEY were AMAZING, the referall being forgiven. I am SO grateful that THEY went above and beyond. I realized this afternoon that I forgot my portable charger at CPR, so my husband went to pick it up. He got home and Inormed me that "they were willing to work with me, but I was a little rude to them on the phone". Are you KIDDING me? I was so upset I had to have a now, even MORE broken phone , ANOTHER 2 days for things that were NEWLY BROKEN. When I called to ask about it, I ABSOLUTELY was NOT "rude". I was devastated, confused, EXHAUSTED, unsure WHAT i now needed to do. I was not rude. I am so shocked and SAD that THIS was how I was treated. T-MOBILE got me set up and thank goodness for them. I will NEVER refer ANYONE to these people. Telling him I was rude, I didn't cuss, I holding back tears trying to figure out the bus system out there, because I have only been to Valley Junction 4 times. I have a traumatic brain injury and that phone is my lifeline. I was scared and shocked that NOW my phone was broken in 2 ways that it wasn't before. He tried to tell me "well when you dropped it, that must have been how it broke". So I guess I am "rude" because I told him that "no. I cracked the screen 2 days ago and there has been no issues at ALL with the charger or the thumb sensor. Somehow had been charging with NO issue. I guess I'll see you friday". If you do something wrong, own up to it. It isn't the end of the world. But Messing it up, then acting like I am a jerk for being shocked, it's not ok.

If your repair job goes smoothly, I imagine that Hometown Tech is a perfectly acceptable business…read more If there's any wrinkles or delays, good luck finding out about it until after you've spent 4 weeks waiting for your initial assessment. I was told 'at most 2-3 weeks, probably less' to get an assessment on repairing a laptop fan error. Narrow margin in the worst case, but I can deal with 3 weeks before getting my data back. One business day before the three weeks were up, I called to figure out what was happening- the only point of contact that I had was a new hire at the front desk, who could only tell me that my file was empty, but assured me that the assessment could have started, and that she'd direct the tech to call me. The tech never called. On Monday, I called at 2 PM. This was foolish, as the 10 AM to 6 PM hours on the google listing actually mean 'you can only reach people at 10 AM', so the automated voice messaging system told me to check the google listing for the business hours that they update daily. Tuesday, three weeks and a day in. I called at 10 AM, and was put in contact with the manager, who apologized for the delay. They'd had a family emergency and were gone for a week, and the 2-3 week backlog had gotten worse- fair enough. They told me my assessment was more difficult than expected, but she'd call the owner and primary tech in and the assessment would be done Thursday. Thursday, I hear nothing. Friday I call to pick up my laptop and cancel the job. I am fed up with the experience, with having to pull teeth to get any idea what's happening, and getting wrong information when I get information. I get an appointment for noon. Shortly before noon, I get a call from the owner who says they're putting it back together, hopefully in time for the appointment, and they expect the fan error to be fixed when they do. They don't have it finished, and it turns out the reason the assessment took so long was a key came off and part of the case snapped while they were disassembling the laptop, and they were trying to find a replacement. As accomodation and to mollify me they let me backstage and let me do some basic data recovery with their gear while the tech reassembled the laptop. +1 star I guess?? Unfortunately, once the laptop is reassembled the fan error is not fixed, and it's clear that it's not the kind of mechanical blockage that should be a quick cheap fix. At the end of the day my $50 assessment fee and four weeks of waiting got me 'unknown fan error that'll be too expensive to actually be worth fixing.' Worth the $50, but not worth the 4 weeks with no idea what is happening. Why is the business structured so the only point of contact clients have is unable to tell whether the assessment has started? Why does the manager being gone for a week mean a full extra week of delay? Why was I not called when it was clear they wouldn't make the estimate? Why was I not called when the breakage occurred? Why was I not called Thursday when it was clear they wouldn't make THAT estimate either? Why did I have to actively call at 10 AM every time to ever find anything out about the status of my case? It is partly my fault for accepting the initially stated delay, and it is partially faultless for the manager's troubles. Nonetheless, I fully regret coming here and will not be doing so again.

My pc has an overheating issue. They have a "30" day warranty and I brought my pc back 3 times during this period. Blown Away. A few…read moremonths back I broke my laptop with a fingernail. That's right, a fingernail. I tried to fix it multiple times myself but keyboards have tiny parts that require precision and patience, I have neither and I also like patience, the kind of lacking that involves foul and nasty words emanating from deep within gut. The kind of lacking that normally ends up costing me more money than if I had just out professional help to begin with. Enter Ankeny PC Repair. Not only did Rob agree to fix my keyboard issue he did it with lightning-fast speed and at a very reasonable price. Let me define fast. I dropped off my laptop a bit after 7pm which of course is outside regular business hours. I got an email the next morning, even before I was awake saying: "Laptop is all ready to go. Let me know when you would like to pick it up." I had my laptop back in my hands within 30 mins after getting his email. This being Thanksgiving week, I was not expecting that fast of a turn around. I wouldn't expect that quick of a turnaround in a normal week. Color me impressed. I can't recommend Ankeny PC Repair any higher than the 5 stars that Yelp allows. 5+++ is more appropriate. Another plus to Ankeny PC Repair is that it is a local company run out of the owner's house. Appointments are required so don't show up at Rob's house with your virus laden computer at any old hour because you were surfing those naughty websites again and your PC is now as full of viruses as a Wuhan Lab. Have a little respect will ya. Make an appointment. Thanks Ankeny PC Repair for an amazing experience.
