I feel like most people only come on here to leave bad reviews so I have to share my experience with windstream.. I have had them for a while and when I lost my job they helped me out more than any other service would even think about helping. I got behind on bills again and thought I would just let my internet go (even though the kids weren't happy) and here they come again to save the day and helped me again. [~ even tried Verizon in between and they wanted to charge me three times the amount that the guy who came to my door said they would, and we couldn't load a single thing.. we couldn't watch anything upstairs and when I called them about it they wanted to charge me even more to switch to a higher plan~] So pretty much Windstream has always worked out well for us, and even went above and beyond to help me out of a rough spot. Don't walk, RUN from this company. I have used this company for my landline (yes, I still HAD one of those) for many, many, many years as well as had internet with them several years ago. There are numerous issues with the landline and some months, days go by without a dial tone. If it rains you can bet that you will no longer have service (phone or internet). The equipment is old and since there are so few of us out this way, they absolutely will not upgrade. On one hand, I understand that. On the other, we are paying for a service that is not provided, and definitely no discount is provided. Since they will be doing away with service out this way completely in a couple years (not that it has been communicated officially), my parents and I both chose to transfer our phone numbers to a different company. Plus I finally got my parents to switch internet companies since much of the time they would have to come over and take my hot spot back to their house just so they could get online. I started the transfer process on my phone 2/27/2026 from Windstream and had my parents call to start theirs the same day. Weeks went by and there was issue upon issue. My new phone company had to get involved and escalate the issue on their end. They did say they have a lot of issues with Windstream with other customers as well. Both lines had Family Bundles that could only be removed by the new company emailing Windstream. My parents bundled phone, internet, and satellite with them so maybe that's why it was on their account. I, on the other hand, had canceled internet with them years ago since I work from home and need reliable internet. So was that the reason for the Family Bundle? It doesn't appear anywhere on my bill nor do I know what it is. Once the Family Bundle was removed, my parents transfer was able to go through....mine, not so much. Now they wouldn't take my zip code. The phone number I had with Windstream is the same and only phone number that has ever been used as a landline for this house. Same with the address. Nothing has changed. Yet, Windstream, had TWO zip codes for my house. The second zip isn't on my bill; funny how the bill managed to find me before I had it emailed. And yes, the billing and service address are and always have been the same. It took three weeks to get them to transfer my number out (my parents just over 2 weeks). Again, I understand that there might be issues since it's a landline transferring to a cell; I didn't expect it to happen overnight. However, it took three weeks. I chatted online with someone earlier this week at Windstream to make sure that I was completely done and my account would be closed. I asked when I might receive the final bill and about how much it would be. I was told Thursday (tomorrow) and around $60 for the final bill. I logged on and saw my final bill ($80) and even though I transferred out before the new month began (3/16/2026), I now have the privilege of paying for another month (until 4/15/2026) for a service that I no longer have with Windstream. I always felt so sorry for the tech that would have to come out and try to fix the line/internet due to the many, many phone calls because of issues over the years. They knew there were issues and would apologize because they couldn't fix it. They would try their best. If you are in an area where Windstream is your only option, I'm sorry. I've been there and done that and am so glad to be done. Update: Only after this review...I emailed customer service, at their request, in response to my review. She did actually reverse the charges to my account since I was being charged for a month where I would receive NO service from Windstream. I do appreciate that. However, since I am a responsible adult and pay my bills, I sent the payment due the day before her response. They have since cashed the check. What are the odds that I will get that money back? New update: Still have not received my refund, but over the weekend (today is 4/20/2026), I got both an email and a text reminding me that my bill is "due" in May. I logged on and of course have a negative balance! It's been over a month now and nothing! They can certainly take your money quickly, but giving your money back is a totally different story. read more

I am not sure how this company is allowed to remain licensed. My phone has called 911 three times--once in the middle of the night in the summer and then again recently-- and once during the day in summer. It was supposedly "fixed" after the first two occurrences but was apparently not. When I first called in July, the customer service representative was shockingly rude. Imagine a parent pointing their finger and scolding a child--that demeaning, disrespectful tone--because I insisted a repair technician come out immediately rather than waiting days, given the unnecessary drain on police resources. This is Windstream's brand of customer service. When the company refused to take the seriousness of a police-related emergency call seriously, I reported them to PUCO. I then learned that my neighbor had the exact same issue the prior week. Despite this, Windstream told me I would have to wait the standard allotted time for repairs, with no exceptions. When this happened again recently and the police once more showed up at my home, I called Windstream and was told the earliest they could send someone out was THREE WEEKS. At that point, I contacted PUCO again and shortly after canceled Windstream altogether without any further ado. Done. No pleading, no more calls to them, nothing. I will say this: the representative who handled my phone cancellation was exceptionally kind and personable. He sincerely thanked me for being a loyal customer for decades. This company has had ongoing issues for years. A few years back, I contacted a specialist because certain local numbers would not go through--she had no idea why. The repeated 911 calls were the final deal breaker. It is nearly impossible to speak to a live person about serious issues, and requesting an expedited service appointment simply is not an option with them. I am saving a lot of money now, and good riddance. I also dropped their internet service this past summer due to constant connection drops, buffering, and absurdly low speeds. I switched to Spectrum and have been very, very happy--I can actually get work done without my internet going in and out. The internet was another problem Windstream never managed to fix. Technicians would come out and randomly check or change things without truly understanding the problem. I strongly suspect ongoing infrastructure issues. To top it off, I was promised fiber service for months. The date kept getting pushed back until someone finally admitted, "You aren't getting fiber." I have had Windstream for 12 yrs. I had no choice in my area. My bill final reached $230 a month. I have had service go out for a week 3 times in this time frame. I complained and complained and they would not lower the bill. If you looked up new service it was $65 a month. I had 30mps service. I finally found and alternate service T-Mobile internet . Its $70 a month and I am getting 135mps. Look at alternates I hope no ones else is charged $230 a month to watch a tv sit and spin trying to connect. read more

worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have been scolded, told off, hung up on multiple times - and that's only been if I am able to actually get someone on the phone. I have left complaints, emailed complaints, and have had zero reach back out. Will be switching back to spectrum, where I will pay more - but have the integrity that should come with interacting with people. read more

Not good is an under statement they're the worst! They're an absolute joke! I've been waiting over 2 months for them to hook up our internet service! They have had a tech, line crew, and contractors out to bury the line 10 different times and there's always a different excuse on why it can't be done there's never a solution. I've called at least 20 times to figure it out and left messages and call back requests with supervisors 4 different times and haven't been called back once! Their services are cheaper but clearly there's good reason because I would never pay full price for this terrible service! They hang up on you while you're waiting on hold for a supervisor to answer the phone knowing good and well they're not going to take your call! They have terrible customer service and don't care about you as the customer it is unbelievable! I would never recommend them to anyone unless you enjoy headaches and pains in the ass! read more
