She was very open to help me whenever I needed it, from a little guidance around town to washing my clothes so I had fresh ones. The campground was clean and the cabin was roomy. I was a little worried by the pictures it was small but when I arrived I was proving wrong. There is so much supplies in the kitchen and I never had problems with someone taking my food from the fridge.

My buddy and I got a room in the bunkhouse. It seemed like hotel room prices for a couple of old beds in an aged, makeshift room in a barn. The bathroom was upstairs. It was a bit small but workable. We paid extra for the breakfast. There was a lot of variety and I ate my fill but the food seemed bland tasting. Also, the person who rang us up at the bunkhouse kept pressuring us to stay another night. We hiked that area and moved on.

Doe River Hiker Rest A wonderful place to stay in Roan…read moreMountain, TN. My wife & I were section hiking the Appalachian Trail from NOC to Damascus, VA & took a zero day to rest & resupply. The owners, Dave & Karen, were very accommodating & helpful. No nickel & diming you to death. They are VERY Hiker friendly. The nightly room charge includes showers, towels, laundry, & shuttles to town and to & from the trailhead. We were able to go to town any time we wanted/needed, and they offered use of refrigerator space & the kitchen if we wanted. My wife & Karen cooked us a delicious meal made largely from vegetables grown in their aquaponics greenhouse. The hostel is in a house & a trailer that used to house migrant workers on what used to be a commercial Christmas tree farm. Pines still surround the yard & goat pasture. They have milk goats, two friendly dogs, a neighbor's dog that comes down to play with their dogs, a Great Pyrenees that guards the goats, horses, and an aquaponics greenhouse. The rooms were clean & comfortable. The shared bath upstairs was clean & there was plenty of hot water. We were able to do laundry downstairs. If you're interested, they offer slack packing for a fee.

As a USMC Veteran with a VA Service Dog, I had arrived at Johnnys to them not even wanting me to…read morestay and asking me to leave. after a brief discussion of about 30 minutes I was able to stay two nights. upon waking up, I was refunded my last night and asked to leave due to them having too many dogs at the location. Most being employees. will never be staying there again. Resupply is taxed at over 100% and sometimes closer to 200% in profits. Not satisfied and will NEVER return. camp across the street at the river and pay the $5 to shower if need be.

Some of us ended up pulling our sleeping pads out and slept on the floor. I ended up sleeping in my van. The lady that was running things was nice but difficult to track down, probably because she was also trying to shuttle people as well. They do offer shuttle into town which is a plus. There are outdoor areas to hang out. There is a very chill atmosphere. Restrooms/showers are seperated from sleeping area which makes it difficult at night and if it raining. The showers were clean, had hot water, and were stocked with shampoo, soap, and conditioner, shaving supplies, sunblock and loaner clothes. They have a store which offers some basic gear and snacky foods for that hiker hunger. Good place if on a budget or just need a break from outside.

Showers were super clean and well stocked with shampoo, conditioner etc. Motorcycle garage themed. There is a small resupply with common foods like ramen, candy bars, poptarts and tuna pouches to name a few. This would not be a place to do a major resupply but maybe for picking up snacks for extra carns and calories. There are frozen foods available to buy like pizza, burritos, chinese food to name a view. Appliances available in common area are air fryers, oven, microwave and keurig coffee pot. We enjoyed relaxing on the leather couches in the dining area while we watched Guardians of the Galaxy before be shuttled to Sams Gap. Definitely one of my favorite places on the AT.
