First off, I love that Kim's Tailoring is open until 7 pm and you can bring in a pair of pants for hemming after work. Usually, you're rushing to get to the tailor early in the morning and this feels so much more humane. First, you go into the little dressing room that's plopped into the front of the shop and Kim pulls out a 2x2 boxed step in front of a mirror. You step up and Kim pins your pants. You approve the length as you watch in the mirror and then change out of the pants. At the counter, she asks when you want the pants... I picked 2 days later and it was no problem. Two days and $20 later, I swung by again just before 7 and left with the hemmed pants. Kim's is super convenient for me. She's also a fine seamstress, having done a wonderful job on a tricky hem that has a zipper down the outside of each leg. She had a clever solution that cut the zippers (in order to hem the pants) but retained the integrity of the zippers. I took away one star because the little dressing room's floor is always filthy with fibers, hair, clothes tags, and loose straight pins. Be careful not to step on a straight pin when you're in your stocking feet changing pants. read more

Kim literally saved my wedding! I had alterations done by the same shop I bought my dress from. The retail team was great so I will not mention the shop in a negative way, but they did not do great on the alterations. I did negotiate a discounted cost to the alterations. But it still should have had top notch alterations that really brought out my body features. It did not. The day before the wedding, the dress could not zip at all. She assumed I would lose 2 inches in water weight. Not the case. The dress also just fell down my body rather than hugging my his and accentuating my curves. Kim fixed everything in less than a day. She took the dress out and created amazing curves with the dress! I felt so beautiful. Thank you so much Kim! She also hemmed my husbands jacket for the wedding for a very reasonable price. I brought in my bridesmaids dress to be hemmed. When I came in to pick it up, the could not find it anywhere. Luckily they finally did. Unfortunately the hem was very uneven in the front, and on the back the bottom layer was sticking out and much longer than the top layer. It was also still too long even though they measured it on me when I brought it in. They offered to fix it but I was worried about having further issues so I will be bringing it somewhere else. read more

Well, I got big (turns out that drinking a lot of India Pale Ale at my old age has consequences!) Kim's tailoring allowed me to preserve my dignity while letting out my suits . Then I got small. My organization ordered me the wrong size shirt that was overly large-legit it was down to my knees and could pass for a dress. I tend to wear my shirts fitted, but normally I would compromise. However this shirt was just ridiculous looking. My supervisor then informed me that I HAD to wear the shirt the next day to an event. But I did not want to wear a dress. I called every tailor in town and they all said they could not do my alteration in a day. However, kim came to the rescue and she was able to. I'll admit that Kim is a great seamstress, but she lacks organization and timeliness. If you aren't in a rush and can wait months for your property to be returned then Kim's is the place for you. My sister brought her wedding dress in for a cleaning in August 2021 and we JUST got it back before her wedding scheduled in July 2022 (9 months later!). We visited Kim's FIVE times before we got the dress back . She kept "forgetting" to pick up the dress from the cleaners and at first we were understanding but after the second time, it was just becoming excessive. She refused to tell us where the cleaner was when I offered to pick the dress up myself. I ended up having to call her to remind her to pick the dress up because that is how desperate we were. Then she had the audacity to charge us $280 for the cleaning when she finally picked up the dress and only when I inquired, she offered to give a $20 discount after all the hassle. $20??? We eventually agreed on $200 but even then I think we got robbed, I think half that price would have been fair given I had to constantly remind her to pick up the dress. This was the first time I used Kim's Tailoring. She altered the straps on 1 silk dress and the fit was perfect. She also replaced a zipper on another silk dress and did minor fitting alterations. The dress looks and fits perfectly. Both dresses were ready on time and reasonably priced. read more

This is without doubt the worst service in the entire Santa Barbara County. I went to get a suit altered which was just shortened on pants and sleeves of jack and paid a whopping $130, but the sewing came apart after 1 month. Also when picking it up they don't even care to press your items a bit even though you are paying a lot of money. After this terrible experience I went across the street to another dry cleaners and they charged me way less for alterations and the best part is that I have my suit for over a month and the alterations have not come undone. Kim is a very skilled tailor and takes pride in her work. I had called around town looking for a tailor that could fix my dress with same day turn around and She came to the rescue! My alteration had extra seams, plus lining and she took it in without losing any of the details. Kim even sewed in snaps to keep my straps in place. She charged $45 dollars which was reasonable. Very nice and my dress was done on time. When I arrived to pick it up though there was a new stain on it. They cleaned it, but kept saying "I don't know what happened, it wasn't us". The only alteration I needed on my dress was for it to be hemmed and for that I was charged $68. The receipt also had no detail on it as far as what I was exactly charged for and I got no explanation when asked. read more

Only had 2 days to have my bridesmaid dress altered and Kim was happy to let me come in and measure me. Silly me popped the hook off while putting my shoes on so she also threw in a repair for that too. My dress had many layers and she was sure to hem it all neatly. Came back two days later and it took about 30 minutes to find my dress for pickup and I was extremely worried that it was forgotten, but it did end up being located. I was recommended to go to Kim's tailoring for an alteration of my bridesmaid dress. I had high hopes about this place and honestly it was my mistake for not asking from the beginning about price. I had gotten quotes from 3 other tailors in SB with the price ranging from 40 to 60 to hem my dress and shorten the tiny straps. Since everywhere I had been, had quoted around the same pricing I made the mistake of believing it would be comparable. When I went back to pick up my dress they charged me $150 dollars which was over priced and ridiculous but I had no choice because the wedding was the next day. They blamed it on the fact that my dress had a lining inside but no other tailor quoted anything even near that price and I didn't even pay that for the dress itself. I will never go back, they took advantage of me knowing I had to have the dress that day. The job was adequate but not worth $150 and definitely not worth more than the dress.
