My grandma came in for her haircut and as the service was being finished Kim seemed to be very unpleasant and pushy with my grandmother. Also even demanded her for a tip all because she "did not have the change" to give back to my grandma. While sitting waiting for my grandma to make her way out, Kim went to help with a manicure with another lady and the lady kindly asked her if she had any designs she could maybe do for her and Kim shoved the nail samples at the lady and told her she should just pick from them. The service here is very pushy, unpleasant, and unprofessional. Also the salon is very small and hair is flying everywhere when she blowdries due to leaving cut hair on the floor. read more

Been to Kim's when she was still in Douglas Blvd but then covid happened and I lost track of where she's been. So glad I found her again. I had a really bad experience with another hairstylist but finding Kim again, I'm very excited. The salon is located in the Roseville Square, alongside Trader Joe's. Plenty of parking. We've been bringing our son to Nancy for his haircuts since he turned 1, and now at 2, he's completely comfortable with her. Nancy is incredibly patient, always taking her time to make sure he feels relaxed and gets a great haircut. It's clear she has a way with kids! One thing we absolutely love is the little car that they sit in during the haircut -- it's always so exciting for him and makes the experience even more enjoyable. Nancy does such a great job with his hair every time, and we're always happy with the results. We also bring our other child here for haircuts, and we couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend Nancy for anyone with young kids! We usually just walk-in everyone but it doesn't hurt to make an appointment with either Kim or Nancy. Both are very patient. read more

The owner has her relatives and friends that just came to America from Vietnam recently, has hired them to provide paying customers, haircuts, color, blow-dry and style. None of the hires has licenses, certificates, or speak English at all. Trying to converse with them about how to do my hair, they would just look at me..."poor people." The hairdresser started my spiral perm the way the owner told her to but as soon as the owner left she did it her way, which I asked her" are my curls going to look different because she started them the way the owner wanted as soon as the owner left she did them her way" and she just said "people do it different ways." First of all, I want to bigger rods, but the owner told me smaller rods cause the curls will just fall out . Which I should of got it my way! I called in for a last minute appointment, and luckily Kim was able to accommodate me! (Walk-ins are also accepted, but I personally prefer an appointment). I got a layered haircut + shampoo wash + blowout for $55 and it did not disappoint! Kim was very thorough when cutting my hair. I showed her an inspiration picture (see attached) and she was able to replicate it! My picture does not do justice, but the layers she gave added volume to my flat Asian hair while still having a central "body" to my hair so it doesn't look all over the place. At the end of my hair-cutting experience, she gave a back massage which definitely felt good! Amazing service, and I definitely recommend going to Kim's Salon for haircuts :) read more

I have an appointment for my hair cut today at 5:40pm. When I get there the lady said, can I help you? I respond to her, I call early and spoke to Kim and she booked me at 5:40pm. I can see that she was doing someone hair when she responds to me that I am busy. I told her that I am not rushing you or anything and I can wait. This staff and the lady who was in her client were talking very quietly so, I told her. If you guys aren't feel comfortable for me to be sitting around here I can leave and be back after you're done with your client. She told me to come back tomorrow. After today with my experiences, I wouldn't ever go back again to this haircut place. I've been going to Kim on and off for several years. She was awesome at cutting short hair and I would go to her whenever I decided to go short. I was there over 7 weeks ago to have my hair cut shorter and for high and low lites. I waited this long to review because I was hoping the cut would grow out ok. Sorry to say it is still choppy and one area continues to stick out unless I use gel and hairspray to calm it down. During my visit Kim was distracted supervising her employees etc. at one point she was advising her employee at the next station and continued to cut the section of my hair that is still sticking out now ( she was looking away but still cutting). The color came out pretty much one tone and bland. It was VERY expensive as well. Two of my friends said they had the same experience. I'm sorry to say I will not be returning. read more

I don't like to brag about it, but I have had a lot of haircuts in my day. Cheap ones. Good ones. Self-given ones (I went through a shaved head phase 'cause of my fivehead). But nothing could have prepared me for the experience of going to Kim's Hair and nail. Now I know that one of the cool tricks is to go into a haircut with your hair done the way you like it cut. It makes it easier to describe then sitting there looking like your doing Tai Chi around your head in the chair. So on the day I walked into Kims (no appointment), I did it with a hat on. Because the shit was bad. Which is why I stopped at the first place I found. Kim was very gracious and I didn't have to wait long. After I took off my hat and all my hair did a jack-in-the-box impression. I got the "been a long time since haircut" face from Kim. So I said it without her having to. So I did the head Tai Chi, describing my desired endgame and she went to work. I watched as she worked trimming this lettuce, never leaving hairs on my face long enough for them to get itchy, following my shitty description of what I wanted to a tee. She even trimmed my eyebrows and gave me clean lines. But that isn't why Im leaving this 5 star review. Something happened after the haircut that kind of surprised me and in all of my experiences of hair cut mastery - I felt the smock unsnap and then drape over my neck and shoulders. Then with soft, but powerful hands, I got a nice tension-ending massage on the neck and shoulders. At first I was like, uh oh - I hope I dont have to pay more for this...KIDDING. But it was a nice relaxing-ending to a perfect haircut. I've been back over 10 times since and won't go anywhere else. Now about this back hair...(fellas, I hear they do this too). read more

I hate giving people bad reviews but after many years of being a loyal customer the service, attention to detail and professionalism is gone. First, when you make an appointment with Kim, she tries to push you off to her newest employee. They are always "very good". These employees are also fresh out of school which isn't great when she wants them to help or do your hair. Scary at times really. But during that time she is training them which would normally be fine if it were not when she she is supposed to be doing your hair. So her attention is never really there anymore. She was not always this way just over the last couple years it has gotten really bad. More employees and less Kim. Now, she is always gone at another salon, double booking, on vacation, sick, family emergency, the reasons have become endless. Also there is a new policy of no refunds sign that has gone up which I find strange and just wrong. Prices have been raised and her overall behavior has changed. Rude, not grateful to have customers, annoyed really. I have recommended many people and none go here anymore do to complaints ranging from being cut, bad haircut, color or bleach not completely washed out, clothes stained and ruined from a bad wash job, un-even high light from two people doing hair at the same time differently, really I could go on, but why you got the point. After over a decade of going here I am not returning. Kim used to be an amazing hairdresser. She honestly could have worked in a top salon once upon a time she was that good but her desire to do hair, work or create a nice experience for customers is long gone. Its too hit or miss to be worth it anymore especially since the prices are the same as everywhere else now. It's a no for me. read more

Finding a new stylist when you move can be overwhelming. It is so overwhelming I waited 2 months before I took the plunge and tried someone new. I tend to go with Asian stylists because they get my hair better than others. I read Kim's review on Yelp and made an appointment. I was not disappointed! Her color match on my roots was perfect! There were also no stray grays that didn't take the color on the hairline - score! That's my biggest beef with other colorists. She uses a brand with no ammonia so no damage to the hair. I also had a pedicure while waiting - very convenient. I am happy with the cut - it's a little bit shorter than I would have wanted, but I haven't had my hair cut since March so I was long overdue. I will just have to tell Kim not to cut off so much next time, but overall I am pleased. I also found Kim reasonably priced. The cost of a cut, color and gel pedicure cost as much as some just charge for cut and color so I felt her prices are very much in line. They do cash or venmo at the salon.
