This review is long overdue. We love Monik at Envy Salon! When we first moved to Rocklin almost 4 years ago, I was looking for someone who was experienced with Asian hair. It was too much trouble to have to drive out to my former hairstylist despite how much I loved her. I'm so glad I found Monik on Yelp! Monik is great at colors, cuts and styling. And while she's great with Asian hair, she's not limited to just that. She's great with everyone's hair, as evidenced by her steady stream of clients every time I visit. My friend who just moved here from the Bay Area also went to Monik and we were all raving about how cute her hair looked. Booked an appt with Monik Duong after reading the yelp reviews. Many great reviews and a few not so great. But hey you can't please everyone. I called anyway and asked for Monik. I told her what I was looking for in which she quoted me the going rate for blonde ombré (style) balayage (technique) for long black hair. Her price is comparable to others in the area for a cut and color. She scheduled me in right away. Process took a while since I had black hair but I did expect it. She did remind me to expect about 2-3 hrs in the Salon since I was going blonde on black hair. Through the whole process she explained framing the face. Starting the ombré a little higher so It can last longer about 6-8 months. She suggested the purple shampoo to keep the color long lasting. She was very thorough and wanted to make sure I was happy. I have been going to Monik for a couple years now for all of my hair styling needs. This time around I was looking to get my hair cut, specifically I wanted a good 6-8 inches off. I wanted my hair to be sort of like a 'lob' where the length is longer towards the front of the face and shorter towards the back; however, I didn't want a super sharp lob but more so a subtle cut. I had gotten this hair cut before from a previous hair stylist and sadly, the end result was not what I wanted. Regardless, Monik always delivers with what style I like and she always finds a way to make the cut personally fit you. I seriously swear by Monik for cutting/styling my hair because she knows what she is doing! My sister came home from getting a trim, which by the way looked great! She told me how personable and professional Julie was. Before every inch cut she made, she would tell my sister what she was doing and how much length she was taking off. I needed hair trim right away and I usually go to a salon in El Dorado Hills but since my sister highly recommended Julie I decided to send her an appointment request through Yelp. I've always been very particular about my hair and how it's cut, so I was apprehensive when I moved back to NorCal and had to establish a new hair stylist. Kim was recommended to me by multiple members of my family and through Yelp reviews so I knew I was in good hands. Kim has cut my hair a few times and I've loved everything she has done! She has done great work with my hair and even made a really short cut look good on me. She usually can get me in pretty quickly as well which is nice. The salon itself is super cute. All of the stations don't look like the typical salons you'd see. Each station has a really cute dressers, it's super clean and the overall ambiance is really warm and welcoming. It's also located down the street from my gym and not too far from my work so I can hit BOTH locations with ease. I came here for the first time this month in desperate need of a cut. And let me tell you, I am so glad that I came her! Kasey accommodated me into her schedule for a cut, but when I told her that I also wanted a color (and showed her the picture), she graciously agreed! Little did I know, she was scheduled to leave at 3! Anyways, she did an absolutely wonderful job with a very subtle, Jamie Chung style ombre/balayage. As she was doing it, she was very precise and took notice to each little detail. Same applies to the actual cut. I told her I just wanted a trim and she listened, without changing the style of my hair. I ended up leaving at around 3:45, 45 minutes after she was supposed to leave! I have been growing my hair for a year and a half so that I could donate it. Today I woke up, and realized I was ready to cut it! After reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to go to Envy, though I'd never been there before. Called and got a same day appointment with Hazi, because she'd had a cancellation. We discussed what I wanted over the phone, and when I went in, I brought pictures. She did a great job! She cut 9" off my hair, and the cut and style she did were fantastic. She was fun, friendly, and nice, as were the other stylists (and customers) in the salon. Also, I was impressed because I'd originally told her I wanted a cut and color, but after cutting, I decided I didn't want to color right now, and she did not pressure me or suggest color anyway, she just accepted that was what I wanted. I appreciated that; it made me feel valued as a customer instead of feeling like they just wanted my money. I would highly recommend Envy to anyone after my excellent experience! I went to this salon and saw Kim for about 2 years total. Kim was great for the first 3 visits. I liked her cuts and colors so of course I kept seeing her. Then not sure what happened to her. She was not giving quality cuts or colors anymore. She actually started acting very off. Such as putting me down by commenting on my weight and my personality! Very strange. I hope she is doing okay. I booked an appointment for a color touch up and first-time bayalage treatment with Monik based STRICTLY on YELP reviews so I was nervous. Real nervous. After speaking with her briefly on the phone (she's exceptional at describing each step of the process and ensuring expectations can be met, I felt better. Still nervous though. I have a TON of hair. Far more than appears to the eye so I know that I'm labor-intensive. Monik went right to work, taking time to explain each step and checking progress regularly. My experience at this salon was great! Upon entering I noticed that it was clean and there was a lot of cute furniture/decorations. My stylist was a really friendly woman named Kim Vi, she did a great job fulfilling my requests. I asked for a blended balayage and she made sure to incorporate my natural hair color into the look. If I could give it less stars I would. I had the unfortunate experience of having my hair done by Mark who didn't listen and raped my hair. I went in with long hair and left with a misshapen butchered job and a lot less hair than when I went in. He then copped an attitude when I tried to get it at least semi fixed and evened up. The owner Julie then tried her hand at trying to help fix it and then tried to make me feel bad that she was doing it for "free" as she felt "sorry" for me. Long story short...it's still crooked and I have to grow out my entire head of hair. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more

It looked orange! i went in tonight for just a haircut and Monik said she had time to do a color correction on my hair. I usually hate sitting for color because it always takes so long. After reading all of the wonderful reviews about Kasey, I was excited to go get my hair cut with someone so trusted. She is very sweet, friendly, and assuring, but unfortunately didn't do the best job :( I had an A-line that had started to reach my shoulders, so I asked to get it shortened up a bit. She told me A-lines were her thing, she knew how to cut them, etc., so I was excited! With the first cut, there is a pause, and then she tells me, "um..I think I cut too much..." and just like that, 3 inches from the front was gone. I was only wanting an inch to an inch and half cut. After all is said and done, I don't have much of an A-line anymore, and it's too short for my chubby cheeked face. To make it worse, the side that got cut first is a lot shorter than the other. So now my hair falls to my chin on one side, and about an inch past my chin on the other. I wish it were different, because she really is a nice lady and she was apologetic (though she didn't offer any kind of restitution for the mistake). Maybe it just wasn't her night, but I don't think I'll be taking my chances with another appointment. read more

I followed Kim from the recently closed Five Star Salon to her new post at Envy Salon. Kim is the best! I've been seeing her for years now and she always does a great job at listening to my requests and giving me a great cut for a truly affordable price. My Asian hair requires a special touch and it's definitely those layering shears she uses to not make my layered cut look so blunt. I'm happy that she's moved over to Envy because it's a more convenient location for me. It's also very spacious and beautifully decorated. All of the stations are actually made out of cute dressers! The salon is clean and inviting and has been pretty packed each of the times I've visited. If you want Kim to style your hair, make sure you call ahead and make an appointment because she gets booked up pretty quickly! read more

Very disappointed :( we came here after being fitted in at the last minute on Saturday, which I appreciated. Jessica did the 3 of us. I asked for a trim and when I got home I noticed that she completely missed a strand of hair that was longer than the others and when I looked at the back of my hair, it looked completely out of whack. One word to describe my hair, Gorgeous! One word to describe my hair stylist, AAAAMMAAAZING!!! First off, I was looking all over at many different salons to do an ombre. I came across this place on yelp and was really interested in Kasey's work. I was going for a blonde ombre look. I contacted her, and sent her pictures of the colored hair I wanted to achieve and my current hair color now. With no questions asked, she set me an ideal price and appointment that perfectly fit my schedule. Before even meeting her in person, she already sounded lovely. I came in about 10 minutes early for my 12:15 appointment and Kasey took me in right away. (NOTE: I have dark brown/black natural Asian hair) We discussed my hair and the goal I was trying to achieve and she mentioned a product called Olaplex which is suppose to work wonders especially for the color I was trying to achieve (light ashy blonde). Also it is suppose to be less damaging. It was addition $25, which wasn't bad at all. Kasey really took her time with my hair to make sure everything was blended in. She darkened my roots then highlighted my entire head. It took about 4 hours of a process to do this, but it was definitely worth the long wait! After finished the coloring process, I sat under the blow dryer for a couple minutes before Kasey washed out the product. She gives really great head massages! I swear I could have almost fell asleep lol! There was another hair stylist there who helped out with the toning in my hair that made the outcome just fabulous! I was getting a little worried at that point but once my hair was blow dried and curled it was absolutely incredible! I just wanted to point out how talented, professional, and friendly Kasey is. However, it didn't turn out as the pictures I wanted, it turned out to be even better! She has great skills because she turned my ugly orange-brown hair, to this beautiful ashy blonde ombre! Monik is my girl. She is awesome. I've been going to her for a couple years now and I always get what exactly what I want. She herself is so sweet she gets right to work! I went from black hair to blonde. It wasn't easy but Monik does wonders. It's took about 3 sessions to get my blonde hair. This isn't any easy process. For all sessions we used a treatment called OLAPEX. Also keep in mind my hair has been through a lot. Since I box dye my hair was hard to make sure the color would be even but I'm telling you Monik really knows what she is doing. I trust her completely with my hair.
