I was in need of a piano for my foundation (The HSTL Foundation for the Piano, Inc.) to provide the Manila Symphony Orchestra because the availability of decent pianos for public performance in the Philippnes is pretty dismal to put it mildly. After having searched and searched for a few years in New York, California and the internet, I dropped by Kim's Piano whom I'd become familiar with because of James Shawcross' youtube postings. And boy, was that a lucky thing. Not only were Benjamin and his staff so welcoming and accommodating but in their showroom I was shown two pianos that I couldn't leave without considering. It was such a blessing that day when my husband and I went to Kim's piano to see and learn what kind of piano would best fit our children. Me and my husband never learned how to play piano at all. My music school has closed due to Covid. As a pianist, I had been missing the feel of a proper, expensive piano. So I decided to go and check out Kim's Piano to simply peek at what they had, perhaps play a few chords. I soon find out how welcoming the managers of the shop were. To my surprise they offered practice on a 45,000 dollar piano paid by the hour. They even had hand sanitizer on hand despite the shop having very little traffic during this time. I began my search for a new piano at several popular piano stores in Orange County. After narrowing my search down to a couple of brands, I decided to go have a look at the Kawai line of grand piano's and I found Kim's Piano on their website as a authorized dealer. I called late evening on a Wednesday and talked to Mr. Kim's relative. I explained that I was piano shopping and would like to make an appointment to come in and take a look at the showroom. He promised to have Mr. Kim call me back right away. Five minutes later, Mr. Kim called me directly. I explained to him what I had been up to and asked if I could meet with him the following day. On Thursday morning I drove up to the Stanton showroom and met with Mr. Kim. He was very friendly and took the time to understand what I was looking for, what I had looked at so far and what price range I was shopping. He then took me on a tour of his showroom and showed me at least 8 different piano manufacturers including Kawai, Estonia, Mason & Hamlin, Steinway, Baldwin and Petrof. After we were done with the tour and demonstration, he asked me what I thought and which piano I thought sounded the best to me. I immediately said that I thoroughly enjoyed how the Mason & Hamlin AA grand sounded but already knew (or thought I did) that it was well out of my price range. He smiled at me and said something like, "Well, what if I told you that we could probably work something out so that it was in my price range" and I told him that I didn't believe him, knowing what the MSRP price was on a new M&H Model AA. After some further discussion with Mr. Kim, I realized that he was seriously going to sell me a brand new, Mason & Hamlin Model AA piano with a PianoDisc Prodigy player and deliver it for FAR less than I could have ever imagined. I literally thought he was kidding me. We sat down and did all the paperwork and shook hands. I am anticipating the delivery of my new piano next week and cannot believe that I was able to get a brand new M&H piano at such a good price from Mr. Kim. I can tell you that Kim's Piano is the "real deal" and you would be foolish to buy a new or used piano anywhere else without first meeting with Mr. Kim. Thank you. read more

I met the piano of my dreams, a 1979 Kawai mahogany KG-2C, at Kim's Pianos. Steve Rivera, professional keyboardist/pianist and staff member at Kim's, found it for me, knew a lot about it, and, when I couldn't resist a moment longer, arranged everything including a very good price that included a reduction in the previously agreed-on price to allow for trading in my old upright, something in the rush of events that had slipped my mind. Mr. Steve Kim himself came down a few days after delivery to provide a complimentary tuning which included additional fascinating details about the piano and a beautiful rendition of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." What a delight it is to hear a beautiful piano played beautifully. The Kawai, already sounding beautiful, was even mellower after Mr. Kim's tuning. What a treasure. Spending time in their immense store with seemingly acres of beautiful pianos was tremendous fun. Finding and being able, with Steve Rivera's guidance and owner Mr. Benjamin Kim's generous flexibility on price, to own a piano of this quality is something I had considered a mere fantasy. Beautiful new store in Stanton, down Beach Blvd from their Garden Grove store that they have had for 30yrs. The customer service is awesome. Everyone from salesperson to manager is knowledgeable and customer oriented. We had one of the co-owners, Mr. Stephen Kim, come and tune up my Mother-In-Law's old piano. He did a great job, not only with the tuning, but he also fixed the creaky pedals AND our wobbly bench. Afterwards, Mr. Kim polished the wood with coconut oil. Such awesome service! I was looking to upgrade my upright for a Steinway M or O. I had to go to LA for a business trip and thought about looking around. After running some searches online I came across Kim's Piano. I had tried different pianos from both private owners as well as many stores (including Steinway dealers) in and out of state and I have to say I was a bit skeptical as I was coming to a store I knew nothing about (except for what is on their website). I first contacted them via email to finds out what they had. Steve Rivera responded quickly. He was professional and thorough and asked me important questions so he could find the best instrument I could afford. After having a few options I scheduled to come in as I had some hours to spare and they had a large selection. So I took an Uber from LAX and headed to Stanton. Steve had informed me he would be off that day, but Mr Benjamin Kim (the owner) would be waiting for me. I spent about 2 hours in the store. Their selection was huge (apparently they are the largest piano seller in the US). Benjamin was courteous, professional, informative and most importantly not pushy at all. He gave his honest opinion on different instruments I was considering and answering all my questions. I left back to Santa Monica after zeroing in on a piano that was waaay out of my budget (surprise! LOL) Then I tried a few other pianos at a place in Santa Monica and what a difference!!! I don't remember the name of the store in Santa Monica, but I would never buy a piano there...It was like walking into a used car lot. (I had a friend with me who is also a musician who agreed) After returning home I worked on my budget and Mr Kim also worked on taking my upright as a trade in. So I ended up getting a Steinway O from Hamburg which was completely redone in Europe and that if I put it side-by-side with a brand new Steinway, no one can tell the difference. The piano is in immaculate condition and sounds amazing. Steve and Benjamin also provided me with all the documents from the team that worked on the piano in Europe, answered all questions very patiently and provided an amazing customer service. Oh! And I live in Colorado and the piano was safely shipped and delivered without a scratch. We have upgraded our up-right pianos 3 times and so tired of spending time on buying piano every 5 years. We decided to have a high quality grand piano and can keep life long. Then we came to Kim's piano. Benjamin is very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. He spent hours to explain the difference between each brand of piano, shared his experience on choosing a piano, also let my son feel the difference (action, sound quality, design, materials etc) between each brands. In addition, no matter the old piano or the brand-new piano, the price is more reasonable than the other piano store we visited. The buying process no pressure at all. Finally, we got a Shigeru Kawai piano for my son. Our piano teacher feels the sound quality of our piano very nice !! The new Shigeru Kawai is real "Brand-new" because the plastic protection is still on each new piano when displaying on the store. Besides, my son likes the action of this brand piano the best because the keys are not so heavy like other brands and no so light as his up-right piano. He also felt the keys are very sensitive when he had different touch especially for slow pieces. My son really enjoys the new piano and plays more diligently. The customer service is also great! My husband should have insisted on the written estimate, but we thought this was a well respected business.
