Dr. Shine is amazing--knowledgeable, caring, and incredibly helpful. She has helped me not only with my blood sugar levels but also with my hormone health. After reading some of the reviews here, I honestly don't understand the complaints. In my experience, she responds quickly, takes the time to listen, and has been more knowledgeable than many other doctors I've seen. I highly recommend her. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Please read other reviews and proceed with caution. At my first appointment, I paid $350, which I was told would cover the visit, lab work, and follow-ups. A few weeks later, I was hit with additional charges--$144 from my insurance for the visit and over $220 in lab fees. On top of that, they tried to push me into signing up for a paid monthly membership. The lack of transparency is beyond frustrating. Misleading new patients like this is unprofessional, and I expected far more clarity upfront. I've called, emailed, and used their patient portal multiple times to resolve this, but I've gotten nowhere. I never write reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. Stay away, or make sure you get every charge in writing before agreeing to anything. read more

She is a very personable and caring doctor. I like the new functional medicine that she does. I'm glad she's still able to take insurance, even though there's a monthly charge to go there aside from that, but I have no problem with that. When my primary doctor retired a few years ago, it was so hard to locate someone that was even close to his level of care, so I'm so glad that I found Dr. Shine. read more

I'm really unhappy with my experience at this office. I met with Dr. Shine back in February, and she ordered blood-work. It took me a while to complete blood panels, but once completed, I reached out to their office on 9/30 for a follow-up appointment to go over updated results and come up with a treatment plan, which they did not give me until 11/4. Today, just 3 days before my scheduled appointment, the front office called me and let me know that I wouldn't be able to see Dr. Shine unless I signed onto their functional medicine plan. This is extremely frustrating as it does not make sense to me to sign up for a plan BEFORE consulting my blood work and what is specifically needed for me with the Dr. Additionally, this new "policy" should have been waived for a client whos waited over a month to be seen. It's clear they don't care about your well-being and are trying to sell you on functional medicine plans. That's the priority and it's VERY disappointing. read more

Bait and switch. I was so excited to find a functional medicine practitioner who accepts health insurance. I waited months for an appointment. Then one month before my appointment I get an email telling me that their office has decided that they're switching how they practice functional medicine. Now you have to pay an evaluation fee of $250 and then a monthly fee of $150 just to be treated from a functional medicine perspective. AND THIS IS WITH HAVING MEDICAL INSURANCE!! None of this was mentioned to me 6 months ago when I first contacted them to see the doctor. (I had to wait that long just for an appointment). According to the person in the office, the reason for this new policy is that when they were submitting claims to insurance they were not being compensated for what they were 'really doing' (i.e. that their functional medicine approach was somehow more thorough than 'regular' medicine). While I don't think this is a scam, I guess that the doctor just wants to make more money. However, for patients just trying to get more thorough health care, we're left holding the bag. I have canceled my appointments since I can't afford these charges on top of what I already pay for my medical insurance. It's too bad that the only way Dr. Shine can provide her functional medicine approach is to offer it to people with lots of money. read more

Dr Shine is an incredible physician. She helped me in a time of need and her incredibly astute clinical mind, kindness and empathy, and the warmth of her whole office staff community made all the difference for me. She has immensely and quite quickly helped me heal, and I whole-heartedly recommend her. It is also rare and so helpful to have found an MD who is also a functional medicine doctor- and in network with insurance. read more

After calling twice and waiting for someone to return my phone is disappointing to say the least. I was hoping to make this my new doctor's office however when the office is unable to call and schedule, you move on. What a shame because the doctor has great reviews. read more

Beware! Unprofessional and employees gather talking at the reception and By THE WAY, have a customers sign on a paper and asked for credit card information regarding cancellation appointment less than 24 hours the fee is $100 which unheard off a $100 fee. CRINGE. I hope HUNTINGTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL do their due diligence cuz this office is on their REFERRAL LIST. This office gave customer all the pages signed EXCEPT THE EXCESSIVE CANCELLATION FEE page!! The funniest is they never a call customer to remind of the appointment EITHER and most importantly THEY DON'T PICK UP THE PHONE during business hours and what if the customer has an emergency regard to their health and wants to speak to doctor. By the way!!! I don't see any doctor in their office either but a bunch of doctor business cards at the receptionist. RUN DON'T WALK. read more

I was on the waiting list for a year to see Doctor Shine and when I finally got an appointment, she and her staff did not disappoint. I walked in strangely on the verge of tears because I didn't dare hope my multiple health issues would be taken seriously. I was as they say, at the end of my rope. Since then, we have been off and running. Dr. Shine doesn't ever hesitate to schedule various tests, bloodwork, and treatments. The attention to detail and care that go into her treatment plan is unheard of at most medical groups. I feel very lucky and privileged to be one of her patients. To be clear, she is a medical doctor and is my primary care physician. Her traditional medical care is fully covered by my medical insurance. But Dr. Shine also offers various functional medicine treatments in her practice that have helped me enormously. To me the extra out of pocket cash each month to participate in the functional medicine program is worth it. But it's not required for you to participate in that side of the practice. Don't hesitate to get yourself on that waiting list, time goes by faster than you think. read more

I have only had one appointment with Dr. Shine so far but I am already feeling so relieved and hopeful from the little time I spent with her. After a year and a half of seeing medical doctors and practitioners who are sympathetic but seem clueless as to how to help me, it was incredible to have a medical professional immediately understand what my underlying issues were and seem confident that, with work and patience, we could get me back to good health. I like how comprehensive her plan is, how knowledgeable she is, and how she didn't seem stumped or confused by my symptoms, like many of the doctors I have seen in the past. In fact, my list of seemingly random and weird symptoms all seemed to make lots of sense to her, and I can't tell you how great it feels to be understood and know that I am not an anomaly, I've just been seeing doctors whose expertise only extends as far as their own field. My issues involve various systems and Dr. Shine is able to see how they are linked which will hopefully enable us to tackle everything in a holistic way. I was very surprised that her office takes insurance- I am not sure how much of their services will be covered, but at this point I am so happy to find someone with a solid plan of action for me that I would happily pay out of pocket in order to get the recovery I have been so desperately wishing for. Her staff has been very warm and welcoming and I am filled with gratitude after my first experience there. read more

I am writing a Yelp review based on visiting with Dr. Shine several times in accompanying a family member. While I believe Dr. Shine to be very experienced, she is juggling many priorities and must rely on a staff that is more problematic than she seems to realize. I have found that her front desk is cordial, but unorganized. They schedule and reschedule appointments without closely monitoring continuity of care. Often, it's same day cancellations and the rescheduling is not put in the system. When this occurs, the patient is blamed, when in fact, it's a staff issue. Staff members are not a cohesive whole. If a patient questions the changing appointments or prescriptions that are not emailed after multiple requests, they are marked troublesome by the front desk and openly reprimanded by Dr. Shine -- all without her knowing the true problems with front staff mischief. There also have been several staffing problems of late with personnel leaving, and it's not happening quietly. Staff is eager to share the dirty laundry on departing employees, which I feel is extremely unprofessional and adds to my overall dissatisfaction in witnessing these goings on. Particularly, when ongoing patient progress is impacted. If you are seeing Dr. Shine casually or infrequently for a boost, terrific. But, if you signed on for a full program of IV treatments and Neuro feedback, it's a disjointed program currently, which in my observation starts with the front desk. read more

Absolutely one of the best doctors I have ever had the privilege to meet. She is caring, attentive, patient, interested, and very knowledgeable. She takes her time to listen to your story and history. She is also very detail-oriented. Dr. Shine fosters a warm and safe environment. I did not feel like a number. I felt like I mattered. What a refreshing change from what I have come to be accustomed to in the medical field. I would definitely recommend her to anyone, especially my loved ones. read more

Shine Health and Wellness is the most amazing doctor's office. They work with you holistically; I have been there for appointments, IVs, and nutrition counseling. Over 6 months going to Dr. Shine's office and NEVER saw her, or even talk to her. Even after going once a week for a period of 3+ months the only people I saw was her front desk staff and her nurse practitioner. The front desk staff is very unprofessional and disorganized, providing misleading information or not providing the requested information at all. Several times I requested specific information about billing and treatment codes and was given the run around without ever receiving the information. After more than 6 months of going to this office, Dr. Shine called me (for the first time in the whole time I was her patient) to accused me that I had gone to another patient's room while having treatment and argued with the patient about me needing that room. Something that NEVER happened, but according to her it was reported that way by her staff. Dr. Shine, a person that I have NEVER MET or TALKED to until that call, did not ask me or tried to find out what I had to say, or even whether what she was saying was true or not. Evidently, she never asked the patient that I supposedly argued with either. She would have find out that it was NOT TRUE. However, she had the guts to call me and accused me of something that never happened right from the start. If you need a Doctor's office that makes a lot of money out of you by offerings treatments you may not need, and never see the Doctor but only her staff, and to be accused by the Doctor and her staff of things that never happened without recourse, this is the place for you. read more

I could have written Aly T.'s review, my experience has been so similar. Earlier this year, I had an insurance billing issue that needed a simple fix by Dr. Shine's office. The difference in what I would have to pay out of pocket was over $500 vs. $7. It took nearly eight months of phone calls, messages through the portal, emails, phone calls from me, phone calls from the lab and almost weekly phone calls from my insurance company before Shine staff finally dealt with the issue. And what I got along that LONG journey was a lot of lack of communication, passing the buck and what can only be described as snotty attitude from Dr. Shine's staff. Add to this the practice's attempts at monetization, from the latest $150/month fee to a very hard sell of some kind of abdominal fat-burning device to "IV therapy." Plus the ordering of a lot of unnecessary bloodwork while failing to order really important standard bloodwork such as HbA1c and screening tests like colonoscopies (I shouldn't be the one bringing that up). I'm giving more than one star because I do think Dr. Shine is a very nice person and a good physician, but it is clear that her patient load is too high, her office staff is completely inadequate and the practice is facing some kind of financial hurdles that are compromising the quality of care she is able to offer. As other reviewers have noted, it is really a shame because a good doctor is hard to find. read more

I've heard for over a decade from multiple friends, that Dr. Shine is the best primary care physician. After switching my health insurance, I was finally able to make her my PCP. I was greeted by one of the friendliest receptionists and she made sure to pronounce my unique name correctly. I even overheard her practicing. This meant a lot because my name is often mispronounced. After a short wait, I was brought back by the nurse who was very friendly too. Shortly after my vitals were taken, Dr. Shine entered and we sat together, thoroughly conversing about my medical history. I was quite surprised because it was very conversational and not like an inventory check...I did not feel rushed. Dr. Shine heard me and made some great recommendations. The best part for me was that I'm looking for a natural approach to medicine and when I mentioned certain issues, Dr. Shine had natural remedies for me. Instead of leaving with a prescription, I left with herbs that helped me immediately remedy an issue I've been dealing with for quite some time. Some other good things I love about Dr. Shine: 1. Her office is in a building that also has a pharmacy, labs (Quest & LabCorp), and other MD specialists. Almost like a one-stop shop. 2. Dr. Shine has electronic medical records!!!! Which makes the sharing of information between patient and doctor and staying up to date on your care so much easier. On my way out I grabbed some fresh fruit and thought I must share this wonderful, refreshing experience! I sent her information to several family members and friends and now I'm sharing with the Yelp community. Don't hesitate! Make your appointment with one of the best PCPs I've ever experienced. read more

I hate giving 1 star reviews, especially after having such good experiences with Dr. Shine in the past (in 2018-2019) but since then her office has been a total nightmare to deal with. Good Functional Medicine doctors are hard to find but the stress that her office has caused me is not worth it. I think it's a combination of having a staff that maybe is both overwhelmed and inexperienced? For example, they put in a lab order for some bloodwork and I wanted to add a few things to the order (to test for some vitamins, nothing crazy) - I called the office and left messages through the patient portal for over a MONTH before I got a response from them, which was that they couldn't honor any changes without me coming in or doing a zoom with the Dr to approve the changes, which would be an extra $150. I said no. I went to my dermatologist for a yearly skin cancer screening the next week and she drew up the lab order with all my requests no questions asked. So it WAS possible, they just wanted to make money. A few weeks later, I went to fulfill the lab order that they had originally made for me but it was post-dated for some reason and Quest said they couldn't draw blood without the doctor changing the date to the present day. I called the office & explained and they said they would flag this request as an EMERGENCY and call me right back when the change was made. I waited for an hour - no call. I went home, only drawing blood for the labs that my dermatologist made & would have to come back for the original labs. I called them later that day, they said they would call me back - they never did. I called the next day, same thing. I called a fourth time - same thing. This is how they treat an issue marked as emergency?? I have referred friends and family to this office and spent thousands of dollars over the years. The way they run things over there is just as bad, maybe WORSE than a regular doctor's office, because they present themselves to be this bright light in a very dark medical world that actually cares about patients but what they are showing as of the past couple of years is that they don't actually care at all. I read the other 1 star reviews on here and it seems I am not alone in this frustration. Dr. Shine - I hope you read these and consider making some big changes because I really did love coming to you in the past. read more

This office keeps your credit card on file and automatically charges you Even when they are not suppose to. Dr. Shine is a fantastic doctor who is very passionate about finding the underlying issues with your health. She helped diagnose my SIBO after years of having it misdiagnosed as IBS. She was very thorough during my appointments with her and believes strongly about functional and integrative medicine. She is great for individuals who prefer alternatives to traditional medicine. I ultimately stopped seeing her because it was a lot of commitment to stick to the recommendations, but I am grateful she provided me with a diagnosis that I am now treating with traditional medicine. read more

I haven't seen Dr. Shine because I was turned away because I just wanted an annual exam but I found this place more like a dietician/nutritionist where they treat only the healthy to promote a healthy living, which is fine but if they don't treat patients for their annual exams or treat you when you are sick, they should not be listed as a medical doctor. It's misleading. read more

I would give more stars if possible. Dr shine saved my life. She is the most compassionate and understanding dr I have been to. She has never given up on trying to help me, and I am forever grateful for that. She is willing to work with other drs, and is open to what you have to say about your own body. If you are not open to alternative care and functional medicine-- this may not be the place for you. I have healed so much since starting to work with her and will continue to be a patient. Love love love everyone in this office and appreciate all of their care and understanding through the past year. Nikki who does the IVs is so sweet.
